Enter the BIOS>second advanced menu>video configuration>integrated graphics disabled>set display to PEG>F10 exit saving changes.
For windows 8 disable driver signing, nvdmn.inf copy/overwrite.

    cmd (admin) type:
    Code:
    bcdedit /set {current} testsigning yes
    >reboot

    Exit test mode:
    Code:
    bcdedit /set {current} testsigning no

From a technological standpoint, why are these steps necessary to make the 680m work in the r3 series, but isn't necessary for the r4?

    Thanks!

No BIOS support for both Optimus (LVDS connector GPU→IGPU→Screen) / 3D Vision, that's why IGPU/SG (HD3000) should be disabled and PEG enabled (Nvidia Link)

So is it the same mobo from the r4 as in the r3?

Not the same: R3 mobo is HM67 chipset, R4 is HM77 chipset :)

That is the general consensus. Even 780 desktop guys are modding the inf to get it to install for them. Rock solid in every case, and I've read a LOT recently during this debacle...

so if i bought a new card of gtx 680m ...it will work with 3d 120hz screen j95? as long we disabled SG mode .. and use PEG mode.. so there's no problem with that right ? :D

Hi, I'll just give you what I know until J answers. 120hz will work fine but no 3D. You will not need to make any BIOS changes if you have a 120hz display already as it is already set correctly and the iGPU is physically disabled.

    Good luck ;)

The 120Hz is already set to PEG, you can enable "always enable PEG" and disable ASPM let the card alone handle Link Speed, no increased latency.
    3D will not be supported.

    Edit: Both answers :D

I believe you can use a unlocked bios to allow the iGPU to be ramped up on battery. I only saw this yesterday being asked so a little time searching on NBR should get you the info where a modded bios is available.

    Good luck ;)

oh yeah, Depends on your card but mine drops to 75hz on battery so completely unplayable :(. Using the Intel GPU you should be able to game OK on battery, you just have to select it - somehow, I don't have one on the 120hz model :D

Hi guys I have just received an Nvidia Shield from the US (am in the Uk) and have an M17X R3 with a 680M card installed. Does anyone know if there is a way to get the Shield to work with the 680M or any Beta drivers that will help?
It's a long shot, not sure if Nvidia are supporting mobile graphic cards yet (last time I checked they specified Desktop graphic cards) so from the context it looks as if it will not be possible.
    Ho Hum!
Only reason I posted here is because I use the drivers posted here with the modded INF. files to keep my laptop up to date and ticking over.

I have seen complaints in the NV forums about the latest drivers causing errors in the windows logs to do with Shield syncing so it is there in the latest desktop beta drivers.

This Game Ready driver offers the best gaming experience for Splinter Cell: Blacklist and is also a recommended driver update for the Windows 8.1 Preview. GeForce R326 drivers also provide performance increases for a variety of different games.

    New in GeForce R326 Drivers

Performance Boost – Increases performance by up to 19% for GeForce 400/500/600/700 series GPUs in several PC games vs. GeForce 320.49 WHQL-certified drivers.

    As usual sir, thanks.

If I can hijack the thread again... It's been a while and I'm perfectly happy with my R3/680M combo all has been working perfectly...

But seeing as the 780M is available to buy now, and seeing as my 680M works like a charm, am I right in assuming I just need to buy the 780M and shove it in? (I assume I'd need a new modded driver of course??)

    Thanks!!

IDT on-board sound card is not compatible resulting in blank screen with the 780m, you must use the external sound card X-Fi HD or Mobo upgrade (R4) http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...0m-780m-questions-concerns-5.html#post9326936

Cool thanks. I already use a USB X-Fi soundcard anyway so that's no problem! Will get one ordered!!

    Thanks!

Another issue I'm having after updating the graphics driver, I can't seem to overclock my 680 via nVidia inspector anymore? Any ideas what I've done??

It just flicks back to 0Mhz when you click apply...

    Thanks!

Legend, Thanks. I should really start paying you lol!

    Thanks again! 780M ordered also!

Sorry to keep bombarding but one more thought....

Anywhere to grab new thermal pads/heat sink for mobile cards??

My old ones are re-usable but might be an idea to change them, been held too much if that makes sense...?

    Thanks!

Just wanted to add a side note... Restored my Lappy back to Windows 7 and there seems to be very noticable performance upgrades...

Didn't realise Win 8 was such a hog! Makes me even more excited to get the 780 now!

Sorry if I am covering old ground, but after reading some of the earlier posts in this thread, I wanted to pass on my current experience with the 680M. I bought the 4GB 680M card from Eurocom (who was great to deal with by the way!!), and it is currently installed and running in my R2. Everything, and I repeat everything works wonderfully. 3D out of the HDMI into my big screen, HDMI sound, etc... I have zero issues with this card, other than I have to mod the drivers every time Nvidia releases them, but Kevin at Eurocom even taught me how to do that, and it is very simple. Not sure if this helps anyone, but hopefully it does.

    Hello there

I've dig through most pages in this thread and I still can't get my drivers installed for my gtx 670mx (alienware m17x r3, windows 7). I've installed this unlocked a12 bios, disabled internal graphics, extracted drivers and tried to install them with that modded nvcv.inf but it still shows message that installer can't find graphic card.

Have you got any ideas what else can I do?

Sorry for digging up old thread and for my english

my laptop acted wierd yesterday .. it has happen in the past but not very often .. when I power on the laptop light came up , fans started working but nothing on the screen .. I did a power drain and it helped . then it happened many times until I wasn't able to start it and power drain didn't do any good. Then it started beeping 6 times . I kinda lost it there because i only bought the card this summer and almost feinted :p . I opened the laptop reseated the card blew the pci slot and it worked as if nothing ever happened -.- ... what's the meaning of this ? Is my mobo faulty ? x2 6990m have been fried in this freaking machine (don't even know the reason) and I definitely don't want the same fate for my 680m D: .. is it a bad sign ? what should I do ? Any suggestions/help would be appreciated thanks :D !

Yeah 6xx series included GeForce ShadowPlay Beta | GeForce

Edit: To get started with GeForce ShadowPlay Beta on October 28th, you’ll need a GeForce GTX 650 or higher desktop GPU, the latest Geforce drivers, and GeForce Experience 1.7, which will be available through GeForce.co.uk and the in-app update tool.

    Appreciating the updates j95.

All has been well with Windows 7 but now I'm completely stumped after freshly installing Windows 8.1 enterprise evaluation. I can't seem to install GeForce 331.58, it passes the compatibility test with your patch however it fails to install any pat of it. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to install a base driver? It's current Windows default basic driver. Thanks in advance.

You need to disable driver signing before installing drivers, use cmd (command prompt) reboot after.

-cmd (admin) Type "bcdedit /set {current} testsigning yes" (without quotes) enter>reboot.

    -Install driver.

-Exit test mode, cmd (admin) Type "bcdedit /set {current} testsigning no" enter>reboot

Thanks! I'll give that a try. Have to figure out how to run as admin?

Thanks so much all installed nicely now and some fumbling around too to get 120 Hertz setting! I was being clever and did Win key + R, (regular/non-admin cmd). I'll leave the clever to the experts (you). :D

Thanks so much for the speedy and helpful replies. Keep up the good work!
