Hi I installed the 331.65 driver from the original post on last page. I says this introduces gamestream tech for nvidia shield. Does this mean I should be able to stream the selected games from my laptop to the shield now?

    *nevermind it doesn't work anyway.

Okay... so... Because this thread is kinda scattered with the info, and help not creating another 3 post thread, I think I'll just ask here.

If I grabbed a Dell GTX 680M, would it work as a simple plug-and-play in my R3? I don't wanna deal with the BS I had to work with before... (6970M in the R2 was a PITA^2)

Not plug-n-play I'm afraid :(. Only GPU's sold with the model work straight out of the box. You would need to disable the on-board iGPU because optimus doesn't work properly so you get stuck not being able to use the new GPU. Also you have to use modified drivers that contain the correct machineID/CardID. The ones from NV and Dell will only install on 'standard' configurations. Laptopvideo2go have the drivers so that's not a biggie - although you might need some help on using them. Their download process it torturous and you have to know where to save the modified .inf file...

Haha, what happened to your love for the 670MX and 675MX that you were saving up for?! :) Although, if you can afford it, the 680M is a better option, albeit maybe not a better bang for your buck option.

What driver version are you using? Have you disabled the on-board GPU?

This has been a problem for a lot of NV users lately (the last 6 months!)

    Thanks for a response)
I use 331.65 + the inf file that in the instruction.
I tried 331.93 but he in general refuses to be established...
I understand that it is a problem, but someone can it solved?
I did everything as in the instruction, т.е if the driver on video not to put everything works well.
About GPU in Bios that yes is chosen as PGE

The 331.93 has helped a lot of people with BSOD problems. I would say go all the way back to 314.22 as this was the most stable driver. If it is fine then try the latest.

What do you mean by 'refuses to be established'?

Get the driver and modified .inf file from laptopvideo2go so it will install: LaptopVideo2Go: Drivers

You have to manually save the inf file when you get to it and put it in the right place (overwrite the original).

    HTH ;)

Thanks is excellent though for such information) I Will try to put from late versions and on increase.
Prompt couple more of moments! It is better to experiment on pure Windows, and without installation of additional audio drivers, a chipset of drivers?
Or at first to establish all but the video driver?

    331.93 doesn't find the videocard ((
By the way it is obligatory to establish Bios of the A12 version? That that is modified or not?

You should find that the inf file on LV2go will allow it to install. It may be a different name than you have seen but as long as you overwrite the original it should be fine. If your Intel video is still showing in Device Manager that may be the cause of the problem?

If all your other drivers are working fine then leave them at the moment.

If 314.22 still causes BSOD's then you might have to do a factory restore to clean up windows :(

The modified BIOS is needed so you can disable the iGPU. On the dell one you don't get the option - well didn't when I had an R3.

Yeah Micky but the LV2go .inf is a generic one, nvdmn.inf specific AW install instructions - PEG/3D Vision/SLI.

@Dutchman[RUS] Ids ? BIOS, setting display to PEG will change Ids xxxx0490 , that's why the installer is not detecting the card.

j95 posted on Tovo instructions, proper BIOS settings will show later, a little busy right now, thank you in advance for your help guys.

So video from intel is off and it is not listed in Device Manager. So everything is fine.
In Safe Mode, everything works well.
Here is a screen ID equipment ... [IMG]
Right now I will put 314.22

    Generally get put 331.65 !
Right now, that I did sign for someone useful ..
I stood BIOS version A12 but it was not modified ( (
I downloaded a modified , installed and restarted , put PEG, but as it turned out it is not enough and the computer again threw BSOD ...
It turns out you need to go to the menu , and set the configuration vidio fixed, instead of PEG set to PCI, and it was then like normal ...
BSOD has not revealed yet , but 331.93
writes that the equipment is not ( ( Well, at least something) )
Thank you very much if you would write ...
Who has any idea why not put 331.93 ? ? ?

And different drivers and different ways, all one BSOD!
Here is a photo of the BSOD
    [IMG]
    BSOD but always different ((
Sometimes it works to boot the computer and 10 minutes without interruption, or even rebooting everything works and the game is good, as soon as all crashes. immediately at startup BSOD!
Cant exactly graphics card with Intel's because everything works fine, but the graphics card also geforсe working, what could be more jamb who are thinking???
Why Dell does not care about us??

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL happens because of drivers mostly.

Specifically, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL happens when memory is paged and the a driver attempts access to that block of memory. Then it needs disk access, but this isnt allowed and the operation can never complete and result in this crash you have.

1way, the most easy way I think seen your already busy with this problem a long time, re-install windows 7 :), just give it a format or something.

    EDIT: missed something

Maybe you should check your videocard if the format/re-install doesnt work.
It can also be caused by hardware failures, but first try that.
    Maybe check your temps?
I would check if the videocard is in good contact with the heatsink.

Or maybe its just plain dying but I don't think, first try all options.

Yes, the fact that the windows clean and I put a few times, and it is home license, and it was BSOD.

    System so ...
    Dell Alienware M17X R3
    intel core i7 2630QM
    Ram 8GB
    Video GTX680M
    1 HDD 1Tb WD Blue
    1 SSD Plextor M5Pro 128GB

I repeat that without the video drivers for all works fine ...
By process of elimination problem in the driver, but I can not understand why other everything works well, and I is BSOD??

Have you installed an unlocked bios and disabled the on-board GPU? This needs to be done on any model that did not have the GPU you are trying that they did NOT sell with the machine.

Have you ruled out RAM errors? I've not read the whole thread, but for me consistent BSODs have often been linked to faulty RAM (system RAM, not your GPU VRAM). You could run Memtest86+ on your RAM to rule that out. When I ran it, it encountered errors in the first seconds of the test - I fried my RAM by vacuming my laptop - OK, stop laughing!!!

    Certainly formatted)
When you install a clean windows formatting required)

Working Memory. Without drivers, the system is stable thus memory is stable.

Intel's graphics I unplugged otherwise even this was not anything, they themselves know))) Bios version A12 modified, everything is set up as it should, but does not want to work in what cant I have no idea ((
    Can not install windows license?
Kind of like dell had to do something with this problem, what about this?

Overclocking the card ? new memory installed, OCing RAM ?
    RAM speed/timings ? I get "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" when pushing RAM too far e.g. 1867MHz 10-10-10-30 (signature default speed 1600MHz - Thaiphoon Burner 1867MHz)

@j95: I just order an gtx 680m which was previously used in a m18x r2. Now I want to install it in my m17x r3. Could you please tell me if I need to flash the vbios or not? Also, is still your m17xr3 GTX680m installation guide still valid, or do I need to check for the latest drivers?

Excuse my ignorance, what is the benefit of installing a modded vBIOS over the default one? Also is there any risk in doing so?
Could you also suggest me a software which checks the performance of the card or what is the best way to achieve a good performance without risking much?

    Hi there!

The modified vBIOS allows better overclocking, by default the Dell vBIOS limits it to +135 (if I remember right). There may be other benefits but it depends on how much effort you want to put into getting the ultimate performance?

I use MSIAfterburner to monitor things (temp, clock, FPS..) on-screen while I am gaming, and NvidiaInspector to adjust clock speeds. I prefer it to afterburner for this as I can get to other clocks.

I'd say check it out at stock to give you some baseline data and go up to the +135 by forcing it. You may be perfectly happy and not have to get involved with flashing...

    HTH :)

Could someone please sum it up for me?

My 580m died on me recently (volt bios, sigh).

    I want to get a 680m (or a 780m) - no 3D Alienware m17x r3.
Does Nvidia Optimus still work? (if not, can I switch to Intel on the run, for battery saving?)
Do I need a specific bios?
I understand I will need modded drivers?

    edit:
Will I also lose my onboard sound?

I have heard of some sound issues but it does not appear to be a certainty?

I would say the 680m is a better bet since a lot more R3 owners have done this and the extra performance from the 780 is not that great (so I read).

You need an unlocked bios to access the display settings and turn off optimus - force the NV card. I'm sure there are links in this thread.

Dunno about 'on-the-run' but I would expect simply putting the BIOS back will get you the on-board savings if needed.

And finally you will need nodded drivers (the correct INF file). I've always got them from here: LaptopVideo2Go: Drivers

    Good luck ;)

Switching to a non-standard graphics card for your system, like the 680M or 780M will always result in you losing the iGPU, you can't even graphics switch manually between the two. People have bricked their laptops by trying to enable the iGPU after installing a 680M/780M/etc.

EDIT: from what I've read I think this is the case. I've not been brave or stupid enough to try it on mine for fear of bricking it, but you will lose Optimus for sure anyway. After a quick google I did find one user who said he could manually switch in the BIOS between the iGPU and the 680M, but I wouldn't try it if I was you, unless you google it & find loads of evidence to support that this is possible without bricking your laptop.

Not sure about that. All the bricked ones I have seen are with the 120hz display. From what I read, without the modded bios it appears to work but optimus refuses to switch?

Like I say, unsure though since I've never been through it - 120hz models do not need an unlocked bios :D

Yeah, maybe, I edited my post above just before you posted your response. I did find just one user who said he could manually switch between the two, but it's unclear to me whether this is possible. I'm not going to try it on mine though, because I don't need or want the iGPU, and don't want to go through the hassle of bricking my laptop. If Jinx wants to know whether this is possible he'll have to google it to draw his own conclusions or maybe someone who is reading this can chime in & confirm whether or not manual graphics switching is possible.

Yep, there is conflicting evidence on this, here is someone who bricked his R3 after upgrading to a 770M, and he doesn't have the 120Hz screen, he bricked it after trying to enable the iGPU:

I see. I wonder if this is a 780m thing? I've seen a lot of 680m upgrades and never saw a single brick - dunno?

Yeah, I don't know. My advice for people reading this is not to try enabling their iGPU in these circumstances, unless they know the process of how to resolve a bricked laptop!
