I don't know, it seems to depend on a lot... the Clevo 680m actually seems to have everything necessary for boosting in the vbios, but there's no sign of the actual boost clock entry.
It might be possible to create a 'zombie' bios, but I don't think anyone here would risk to flash it since they can't recover from complete bricks. I don't have access to a 680m, else I'd test it.

    damn this crossposting :p

like i said in the other thread, using furmark/3dmark11 doesn´t make the turboboost work (if there really is one).

    clocks stay at 719h max...

Well that is very weird. Why do GPU-Z report turbo boost then? There is gotta be a function there for it since GPU-Z doesn`t report it with the Clevo 680Ms..

Its good that you've at least got it to work. A 5800 3dmark score shows that it does require more tweaking and optimizations...

have you tried overclocking yet? Your experiments will form the basis of my purchasing decisions

    And thnx for this ;)

i should be more specific in my future posts i guess ^^

the 680M does NOT work in my old R3 (so far).

those 3Dmark11 score comes from the new R4 without any tweaking whatsovever.

maybe i´ll manage to do a bit tweaking today but nothings for sure so far...

Alright guys, eurocom called me back and they said that they test it on the m17x r3 and several others and they said it works. I asked him to call me back and let me know what their tech department did to get it to work. Maybe the 680m in the r4 is specialy designed to work with that particular model laptop?

I'm thinking that it may have something to do with GPU boost. The Clevo cards don't have it and maybe they function just as a 22nm GPU as opposed to a Kepler one with all the bells and whistles. We shall see...

And yes, 8k in '11 is the new 20k in Vantage which was the new 10k in '06 (back in the 5870m days :p)

I might have to take a leap of faith and try it, I think the 680m's that come in the r4 are specialy modified to only work with the r4. 2 different tech people say that they work in the r3--- we still haven't tested a 680m directly out of box--- so it is still inconclusive rather or not it works...oh well if it doesn't I can always sell on eBay :) ill hear back from them tomorrow with more info on the 680m

if nothing goes wrong with UPS, i will have my 4g 680m delivered sometime today. and it will only take me hour or two to finish testing whether it will work on my r3. so i suggest u dont rush in and get the card until i have the result posted.

If the 680m ends up working in the r3, I see no reason why it wouldn't work in the M18x r1. The M18x r2 should support the cards anyway since they currently sell the M18x r2 system configured with 680m SLI right? (forgive my ignorance if this is all wrong)

I'm eager to find out if the 680M will work in the R3 as well. I've been holding off on upgrading my GPU to see if I should get the 580M or 680M. If the 680M works I'll spring for it. If not, I'll get the 580M for a much cheaper price.

I think Monnie is more concerned if the 4GB version of the 680m will run in the M18x R2, and register/utilize the full amount without any problems. Alienware is only selling the 2GB version.

i don´t think you´ll find a software/game that is able to get the 680M up to these temperatures (cutting off the fan will probably work ;) )

furmark won´t suffice since nvidia/dell found a way to deal with that (max. temp after 10mins has been 66°C due to the constant switch between clockrates)...

I have received my 680m 4g card today and finished put it in my r3. Im so far encountered the same problem as mrm2x did: driver issue. the system considered the card as standard VGA device. instead of installing the driver which was manually downloaded online, I been using several auto driver detection and installation software which comes to a dead end. the software didnt recognize the card whatsoever. now im downloading Dell's r4 official driver and firebat's which might end up the same. ill post update once i try those. annnnnd, lets pray.

Let's hope to get this working...or the only upgrade path for m17x R3 users is the 7970m (which isn't a bad choice...but the point is, you have no choice)

Here is some other drivers you can try. Really hope you can get it to work!!

v302.77 Windows 7/Vista 64bit | Dell Mobile (might work if you have a dell card)

v302.59 Windows 7/Vista 64bit | NVIDIA OEM Mobile (might work, or it might not I don't know. Figured it was worth a try)

Edit: another option is if we could give the device ID to katalin, he might be able to make add it in like he did/does for the older cards. Just another idea that might work :)

I need 4GB for Digital Combat Simulator A-10C. Using high viewing distances and high textures for terrain/vehicles/objects uses over 2.6GB and that is not maxing everything out

So why would I take a step backwards on settings, limit myself on current and future advances offered in the application when purchasing a new system?

    Thank you,

as yosho already pointed out, you might wanna try the latest A10-bios for the R3 (i used the A08).

maybe even using the modified/unlocked A08 is worth a try, altough personally i doubt that.

    Omg I almost forgot,

Omg I almost forgot, Dude, do you have the right heat sink installed? Did yours come with a heatsink? Without the new heatsink it won't work, eurocom called me today and said the reason why some people are having trouble is because they might not have the new heatsink installed, you have to have this and up to date bios, this is essential. You can get the bios from dell obviously. Also make sure your card has proper connection, these are the key reasons for it not working.... Good luck bro, I got faith in you lol :)

The heatsink Shouldn't be a huge deal as long as your current heat sink cools the gpu efficiently and is not making contact with the wrong parts of the gpu

Damn..., oh well bro, it's all good you can go to eurocom.com or google eurocom and order from there. Or the eBay shop you bought It from might have them too. Call eurocom and ask them for a heatsink for the 680m to ensure you get the right one, it is 100$ plus it comes with thermal pads, which is another thing you will need to keep your card from overheating during usage...

I think he should still try updating his bios and trying that and if that doesn't work then maybe the other guys on here can offer some better advice, I wish I knew how to modify bios or had the bios from the r4

Doesn't hurt to try. I wonder if he turned off the igp if his system would still post? Might be worth a try just to get the igp out of the way and maybe the drivers will install as well.

Sometimes the most simplest thing could be the problem. He can turn that off by going into the bios, right?
