you need the modded A08 bios to do it. I'm not sure if he has that or not.

I have successfully mod the driver by adding my device id into it and even finish installing it. but, when i restart my laptop, the screen goes black and the fan start spin even faster after the WELCOME of windows pop out. and i had to restart it again. is it because the problem is more than drivers or i just done the modification wrong?

    Hey guyz!
Investing so much in 680M GPU you can also try getting new Motherboard of R4 if its available. Much simpler solution... I bet the chasis should fit perfectly can someone comment on the same...

Does the R4 mobo allow use of the sandy bridge? Is anything else different between the R3/R4?

    Hi,
New Bios A10 in r3 says support for new processors... Major changes as per best of my knowledge is R4 has more USB3.0 ports and PCI3.0 slot instead of 2.0... Rest all architecture is same but still as i said if chassis is same for R3 and R4 should fit one to one as replacement in R3...

    Regards!

I also checked on Ark.intel.com compared I7-2720QM (Sandy bridge) vs i7-3720QM (Ivy Bridge)
heres the link: Compare Intel® Products
It shows the pin out/package socket every other specs is same other then i mentioned above in earlier post so should work for sure...

The unlocked A10 BIOS for the R3 is available here: M17xR3_Unlocked_A10_Bios_Full.zip. Props to our friends svl7 and Bios-Mods for the work.

Sandy Bridge processors work fine in the R4 motherboard. If you recall the R4 was sold with Sandy Bridge CPUs when it was first introduced, pending the release of Ivy Bridge.

Are the features of this unlocked bios different in any way when compared to the A08?

Thanks for all the helps, ideas and support you guys have provided. im soooooo appreciated! ill post some image with evidence and performance test result either in this thread or one new. now im so tired and need some rest. And i sense it wont be just easy like this.

Sata behaves differently than in A08, but I could modify A10 so that it behaves like A08 when it comes to Sata.

Sweet!! The guys a eurocom are really great, hey can you upload the files You got from eurocom and the files you hacked for download? Is the device id different for every computer? Do we have to hack it ourselves to get it to work on our com? How did you do it?

I really can't see how the guys from Eurocom help in this case. Only thing I read about their suggestion is to buy a separate set of heatsink which I'm not sure why because I thought it's NOT even related.

After reading everything, its clear that the help came from SVL7 and The Revelator so props to them and for kissasalienware for not giving up & taking the risk in buying the card. Unless I'm reading this wrong

Anyway, congrats for making it work. Some of us R3 users are hoping to upgrade to 680M and you made it really clear that it's doable. Enjoy your new beast!

lol, i didnt mean it that way bro, i thank avl7 and revelator too for their work, but also eurocom for giving him the drivers that they used to get it to work, as eurocom were the ones who could get it to work when i contacted them in regards to getting the 680m---anyways, thanks to everyone for the help, cant wait to hear how he modded the files

If you are able to do this, I would be much appreciated.

By the way, is there going to be any noticeable differences/gains for the R3 users? I'm using the modded A08 for the ability to disable the iGPU and for the SATA III speeds for slot 0. Wish both slots would run SATA III :(

Mmm, maybe it will work, maybe not. I know that Sandy Bridge CPU works in the R4 systems (because I tried it) but not the other way around. We are talking about different chipset my dear friend and not only the socket. It matches the socket but I doubt that an Ivi Bridge CPU will work in an R3 motherboard. I wouldn't try it as you may fry something...

    Hi,
i think you misunderstood the point. The point was to buy a new MB of R4 and along with 680M and install in R3 with sandy brdige processor since chassis was same and not installing Ivy bridge on R3 MB... Hope you get it now ;)

Unless the R3 gets a bios update to support 3D with the 680M/675M, no it won't work. Already been confirmed with those who flashed their 580Ms to 675Ms. Widezu should be able to confirm this too

It's BIOS A10 with the SATA settings of A08, so it will perform as A08 when it comes to SATA.

I don't think Dell would change the SATA settings in the BIOS for no reason. Maybe there are problems with some HDD/SSD. Who knows.

I took the liberty to explore the unlocked and modded A10 bios for clues as to how we could get gtx 675m and 680m to work with 3d. Using winhex and ezh2o, i wasn't able to find a single reference to a nvidia card supposed to be supported by natively for 3d vision (whether it be the GTX 460M, 560M, or 580M) in the R3 bios. searches in all hex memory give no results for 10DE1211 (which is the 580m vendor/dev combo in hex)

I don't know if the 3d restriction is vBIOS related, driver related, or if I missed something in the bios search.

A few pages back there were people asking for the modded driver file we provided for 680M installation.

For your convenience, you can find it here.

You need to look again, it's there. :p
There's a lot of such reference and some interesting device IDs. :D

Though I don't know what you expect from changing some device IDs... If you want to do some crazy testing, cool! You should still be able to recover from possible bricks by the known USB method.

    Cheers!

Then I clearly missed something. I was looking for references to nvidia cards in the bios to see where the 3d whitelist might be. The idea was to perhaps take the device Id's for the GTX 460M (10DE 0DD1) and GTX 560M (10DE 1251) and replace them with id's for GTX 675M (10DE 1212) and GTX 680M (10DE 11A0). You think that would be possible? The idea is to replace those 2 id's in the bios to minimize bios brick possibility.
