8 beeps means that there is something wrong with your LCD Panel.

Does your notebook start normally when you remove your graphics card'?

Dude, I have the same problem with the guy above. I want to hear your suggestions.

Like I mention, same problem. Blank Screen after Switch to PEG, Turn off on board soundcard, and disable IGP on BIOS. No beep after restart, Just blank screen. But I'm 100% sure that my system boot into windows 8.1 since I type my password and wait until all of my keyboard lighting firing up. So, I got into desktop, just no display.

No other choice than to reset CMOS battery to get into BIOS and using my IGP again for me to get the display. During this process, I've got random beeps between 5 & 6 Beep. But, a simple click to power button and it manages to POST. Try reseated GPU Card several times, still no luck.....

Thats easy, your graphicscard is dead. You can try and bake it.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/help-problem-with-clevo-p170em.808783/#post-10597473

The fermi, and early kepler cards start to die now. The HD 6xxx and HD7xxx are also dying as well. The bake method will only temporarily fix your card, sometimes it will die again after weeks, sometimes after months, so I would suggest looking for a replacement. Try and get something like a HD 8970 if u're interested in performance per dollar.

Else if u got a nice CPU and want some performance you could also opt for something like a GTX 970M or even GTX 980M.

LOL..... yea, this is the end for this card I guess. Since the last week, it started giving a driver crash everytime I play the games more than 1 hour. I think I switch to built a desktop instead. My CPU is weak, there's no point on bought another power card for replacing this dead one. Not to mention is hard to get a decent CPU for an old model. It's a sad since I have a good time with this card since I use it after my 6990m also meet the same fate.

    Well, thanks for replying mate....

Is there a simpler guide to modding INF files for an Alienware M17xR3 with GTX 680M on Windows 7? I tried various guides with no success. I'm not technical and have very poor understanding. Thank you.

Just go to device manager and send me the hardware ID, then I can make you an inf file.

Hi, thanks, the hardware ID for the graphics card (GTX 680M) or laptop (Alienware M17xR3)? Are there instructions to find it, what should it look like? Thanks.

It's for the GTX 680M, is this what you need?

    Alright follow the instructions:
    - Turn off your notebook or restart it, tap F8 until you get into the startup options from windows (safe mode etc.)
    - Start with "Disable driver Signature enforcement"
    - Download the this driver from Nvidia
    - Once the install automaticly starts after you extracted it, cancel it (once u press cancel it will take a bit until it actually cancels)
    - Go to the folder you installed your Nvidia driver (typically C:/NVIDIA/DIsplayDriver/388.13/Win8_Win7_64/International/Display.Driver)
    - Download the file I attached, unzip it, replace it with the old one.
    - Start setup, at some point windows will ask you if you want to install the non signature driver, and you click on "yes I'm sure."
    - After install reboot your system.
    - Enjoy your GTX 680M

Thanks very much for this. It worked. Where can I find the best guide so I can do it myself? I've tried following a few versions of the INF modding guide but I have had no success.

Uhm I don't know where to find guides, I just read it once and since then used it so much that I kinda know how it goes. You basicially only need to add 4 digits of ur machine in an already existing code.

    https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/nvidia-inf-driver-modding-guide.377158/

    this is basicially it.

btw u don't need to upgrade drivers, NVIDIA doesn't change anything on kepler anymore.

It's a miracle, I got it to work. I wasn't using the pastebin links initially, I think that's where I went wrong. Thank you very much for your help.

Oh, it's because Cyberlink PowerDirector has a combination of rendering and production issues with almost every driver version. I've tried almost everything, so I'm rolling back to the version which if I remember correctly works without issues. Thank you.

And the whole reason I needed to "upgrade" the driver is because the newly released Need For Speed Payback needed a very recent driver version to run the game. So that means I have to switch between driver versions for PowerDirector and Payback. Good grief.

I do recall from the dim and distant past working with someone trying to get a 770m to work in an R3 and he gave up. Seemed like some sort of vbios issue (UEFI?)
