on UK Dell website single 5870 option will delay the order for 12 days. there is also a discount. my first impression is that if CF is coming sooner or later they getting rid of the single 5870s which have not crossfire connection.

I have ordered a single 5870. The system shipped from the factory yesterday. I expect to get it next week some time (in Aus).

Also my order says it has a 240W power supply.

Hmm, not necessarily true. My order is EPP, and it shows 240W adaptor. I didn't go through the site though, went through a salesperson.

i must say this is out of question. people which access have no CF 5870 option on their systems in UK . they would have this option if they would be released tomorrow.

Hey guys, I've been reading this forum for updates on the 5870 x2. I was wondering how many days I have to upgrade an order before it's too late? I'm planning to order later tonight, because I get a discount that expires at 12. So I was wondering how long I had before I can no longer change my order. Thanks guys!

I'm hoping to order a single 5870 for now, and change it to 5870 x2 when it's possible.

I was shocked when I checked the order status today, but hey maybe things are finally moving along. My old order was for a i720 with single 5870 placed on 4/23 so maybe they expedited the new order. It also had a 240 watt power supply

I'm fine with USB 2.0 on my 1.5TB external HDD.

The native screen is 1920 x 1200, but it can export to an external monitor at 2560 x 1600.

    1) if it's not playable with 4870s it's not going to be playable with 5870s. The big upgrade is directx11 actual performance is only a 5-20% tops increase. Same shader count, just a clock speed increase is what has happened to the 5000 mobility series
    2) if you want to play @ 2560x1600 on an external monitor you're buying the wrong system...

It seems that next week, people who ordered systems with single 5870 will start receiving them and we'll finaly know if the GPUs have the CF connector on them or not. If they don't, the chances are that 5870CF won't be coming anytime soon to the M17x.

i wish mobility 5870 CF was almost equal to 5970 performance. My guess is that mobility 5870 CF will be close to single desktop 5870.

BY my marks, a single 5870m is ~equal to a 5770, and a pair of 5770's does better in some games than a 5870, so i would say your thought is close. Either it will be close, exact, or slightly faster.

Anyway thats alot of power for a mobile package.

i pushed 9 instead of 8, meant of course between 5870-5830
and one singel 5870 runs games like bfbc2 @ 2560*1600 without any problems :b

Okay, thanks. My discount expires in an hour, so I'm probably going to order it with a single 5870 and hopefully upgrade it to 5870x2 if it comes out within the next few days. If anything I can still return it and upgrade it later on right?

Well technaically 4870x2 is the newest and most powerful hardware since there is no 5870x2 setup. 2x4870 > 1x5870 > 1x4870. :D

exactly. thus more expensive (whatever this means later). and use all the power of this machine with dual gpus.

we all want new technology and dx11. but for now its waiting time. if crossfire 5870 wont be available then buy one 5870. not big deal. if you cant wait, its in my opinion CF 4870 is the best option. if you can wait, wait for a month more.

i also think that there is also the possibility that CF 5870 may be with ddr3 gpus and not just adding one more ddr5 5870. we shall see.

Well if you order just a single HD5870 your upgrade would be just another HD5870 with heatsink and CF cable. But if you order dual 4870's you'll have to buy two HD5870's...
I was assured just a minute ago that it's possible to upgrade to 2 HD5870 down the road when ordering just 1 now.
***But then again rule nr one steps in.***

I hope to get a 820QM instead of a 720QM for the GPU setup change...
My request is being processed atm. :)

    1) dont forget the second gpu fan because there will be nothing there with signle gpu.
    2) we still dont know if single 5870 has crossfire connector
    3) we dont know if the 5870s in CF will be ddr3 or ddr5
    4) if there wont be CF 5870 CF 4870 will always be faster
    5) we ordered our replacements in a very bad time point with lack of information

thus there is a package including both 4870s (so 5870s in the future) with crossfire cable. one part number for all those. however with both heatsinks available from cf 4870 one can order pure 5870s (with crossfire connection option if ever available) not only from Dell. and i said before no second gpu fan.

I tried to quote his orginal post but didn't find it. Anyway, he is incorrect 'partially' if you order online or through a normal sales rep they do not have the ability to change for longer than 1-3 days after it's ordered. However, an epp sales rep can change the order up to 1-2 days before it ships. ;)
