not sure but they are about 15% faster than 4870s i think.. and the 4870s are faster than the 280s so the difference should be noticeable
-
I had a m17x r1 with sli 280 gtx and scored just over 10k for gpu in vantage. 1 ati 5870 scores over 9k gpu vantage. 5870's would be a significant upgrade.

DirectX® 11 support also

That's not too bad. just canceled my 22th April order, and waiting for refund again. This is the the second time in the last 3 months.
-
Anybody know yet if the R1 can be fitted with these new cards, or is it just for R2?
Thanks! -

Word on the street is no, but only time will tell
-
So, when do you people--yes, "you people"--think they'll have the 5870's available in Canada?
-
How about....hmmm... - soon!?
-
how much should these babies cost from dell parts?
-
I remember the m11x was only about a half a week behind the American release, but this might be different. From the ETA I had for my m17x before I cancelled it, it was a lot sooner than a lot of the American's ETAs. I'm going to assume the parts supplies and production locations are therefore drastically different.
-
Probably Fermi, but will give thought on the 5870's.
USB3 though is a bigger hurdle to forego however. Think I should wait for that. -
My guess is $1500 after tax. -

I don't see them being that much more than the 4870s Joker. Probably more like $1150 after tax
-
Well to be fair the truly perfect system would have usb 3.0, 4 DIMM slots, and the ATI or NVIDIA switchable graphics for battery life when not gaming.
But that's small imperfections. -
um....i'm assuming that theres no sata 3.0?
-
Wow... This thread has exploded since I started it yesterday.
I will update the OP with the country's where it is available today.
It's a dirty job.... but someone has to do it!
-
holy sweet flipping jesus. that's half of what my computer cost me (mind you I got the 920 upgrade for free for all the issues I've had in the past and my uncle gave me the 256gb SSD).
I'm getting my video cards replaced because the motherboard they sent me didn't fix my streaking... should I leave the 4870's in their packaging when they arrive and sell them on ebay? how much do u think I could get for them? -
Try and hold out on getting them sent to you, they might end up sending you some 5870's
-
dell always says "we only replace like for like parts"
to get something like the 920xm upgrade from a 820qm that I got, you have to have had some kind of nightmare of a customer service experience combined with hardship and agony. on top of that, i had to wait about 2 weeks getting an approval from "upper management."
this is their first attempt at replacing my cards... I'd have to get 5 or 6 bad batches of cards plus be cussed out by one of my agents in order to have a strong enough case to demand an upgrade to dual 5870's.
Ah, workin' the system. I know all of this too well.
edit: i just wanted to speculate that I can see someone breaking 18k Vantage with these puppies... -
I wonder what would happen if they sent you new cards but you failed to install the new ones and were still having issues...

Dreaming Of Us Ca And Au To Get Update At The Same Time.
-
Totally, I have visions of half this forum parked on the order site smashing thier F5 keys...
-
whoa. many pages for this.
The m17x-r2 pretty much pwns the competition completely, its pathetic. Go dell!
And now they're releasing kick phones so they've got
-Large Gaming Laptop Market
-Small Gaming Laptop Market
-Strong smartphone offerings
all within a few months... go dell! Love this company. -
Oh, i am thinking of set up auto refresh every 5 mins in order to save my F5.
-
Searching "Mobility Radeon 4870" on ebay yields nothing. Are people really not selling these at all? I'm afraid to sell mine without knowing how much I should sell them for.
Does anyone know how much dell sells the 4870x2 for if you know the part number? That might be a good starting point for figuring out how much to sell these for... -

Hmm this is interesting. Looks like today's the day. I think I caught them while they are updating the site.

Weird

It only shows one though?
-
it is interesting to me. Anyway, better be today. I like the way apple update their products. Pretty much everywhere at the same time.
-
It's not a Typo. 4870s are no longer available in Europe, so they can only send you 5870s.
I just found out that return period in my country is just 7 days not 21. So no 5870s for me for the time being.
-
I'd hope so too but my Dell sales rep told me May possibly even the end of May so I definitely don't have my hopes up.
-
Except for some countries like Taiwan, which gets the update 3 months later or so...
-
who knows. I remember last time AUS update the i7 in late Jan which was about 2 weeks after the US. Reps are not always right, when i tried to order M17x with i7 in late Jan, my rep ask me for the link cos he did not know the update was already there.
-
I agree that sometimes things don't come out for a long time in China, but Taiwan isn't a country....its a part of China.
-
Well Canada is updated. M17x now has a choice of Dual 4870's or single 5870.
COME ON...Update United States now and update M15x!! -
that doesn't make sence. Who want single 5870 as everyone know there will have dual 5870s
-
The same people who got theirs with a single 4870
-
Same in the US see OP!
-
5780 on US site Now!!!
-
Why no CF in 5870?
-
single or xfire? (on my phone, cant check
)
-
Still no xfire option for the US
EDIT;
In fact going through all the European sites that allowed it to be xfire configurable yesterday, they are no longer able to chose Xfire either. -
supply is my bet.
-
Yes, saw that, now updating the OP again
-
wondering if I order the m15x, I can buy the 5870 part from dell and it will fit. hmmm....
-
yes it will fit
-
I'm guessing they will not be configurable for Crossfire in the US for a while...
-
Guys remember when the m17 came out with the 3870's and then the 4850's appeared, everyone thought they were going to be able to upgrade but I cannot remember a single time owning an Alienware that I was able to upgrade the video cards. The only way I was able to do my 3870's to 4850's was buy the wife a new laptop and switch out the cards, I guess I'm just saying don't get your hopes up..............
-
4870s was an upgrade to the 260/280 last fall.
M17x-R2 - out with HD5870
