No that the production of the M17x is currently on hold.

Oh. Why would they be on hold. I would think they want to get them out the door asap to be ready for all the people wanting the 5870's.

If you return the laptop before 21 days even if you didn't have any issues with it, they won't charge restocking fee right? I'm thinking of just using the M17x for like 15 days and get a full refund to order it with 5870s.

Seems like noone knows when the 5870s are going to be released in US. I have talked with my Customer Care Rep and the sales rep as well as the chat sales rep and none of them knows when they will officially release it for the US. I guess I have to get my M17x and play with it a while and return it.

You guys could always order the new M17x with 5870's from Dell Europe...

It only costs 6,662.85 USD for a fully decked M17x :) ..haha..retarded european prices...makes me depressed living here..

My replacement was delayed due to the backordered keyboard but was shipped overnight yesterday.

I know that even as a replacement, the system can be "returned" within 21 days of shipping, as it still proceeds through the normal order process. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what exactly happens at that point, as I know they won't issue a credit for a replacement... If I make no progress in the next couple weeks with my rep and the card shows up on the US site, I might just try a return and see what happens...

Now back to waiting. At least we have a reason to expect it soon on the US site now.

? At the current exchange rate of 1,33USD for 1€, that would be 5000€... I agree that european prices are considerably higher but you should quit smoking imho.

Too bad they don't do the same for Mexico.

    I'd pick up a fully-decked out R2 for 3000 peso's. Be about $247 :D

I'm in a similar situation. I have a replacement that should be arriving soon (issued all the way back before DPC was 'solved', but then they 'accidentally' sent me a base model as a replacement - a broken one that wouldn't even boot nonetheless  - so I sent that back and am now waiting for my proper replacement) and was almost hoping the delays would take long enough that these cards would be out and available for my replacement... but they're too late...

When you say they won't issue credit for a replacement, do you mean that they won't refund the price of the system? Hopefully returns can be made as with a normal system because as you said, the order status page looks just like that of a normal order, complete with a price and everything...

If you've never had a working system, they should still refund the original price you paid. In my case, I had a working XPS system for quite a while and always kept the warranty up. Finally, when the system started having serious issues, back in July of '09, I sent it to the depot. Through a serious of serious screw-ups on Dell's side of things, I received a replacement laptop 4 months later, which had it's own problems and demanded a replacement for that, which is the system I'm receiving today. They wouldn't refund the original price paid as I (until July) had a working system for quite some time.

There's no price on my order. Although yes, as you said, it looks just like a customer-generated order and as I understand, complies with the same return policy and customer satisfaction policy of 21 days from shipping.

I just turned on my replacement system and it made a pretty horrific grinding sound during the first boot. I assume it's a fan issue and went away after a minute. Looks like the 5870s might not be my only reason to return this computer.

If I was to return the system within the 21 days, I assume they would just generate a new order for another system, which should have the 5870s.

I predict you should be able to play crysis at very high 1920x1200 with some AA enabled (my 4870s were able to do 36 FPS overclocked with all very high and no AA)

I am amazed to see that Dell let's such an upgrade out in Europe before the US. That's unusual...

Anyone here think the Vertex 2 or RealSSD C300 would be good for the M17X R2.

Any recently upgraded RAM that is worth something or should I keep the 4GB 1333 Cas 7 Kingston HyperX Ram?

anything is only speculation at this point. several people in this thread were throwing around the idea of mid may for a worldwide release not 48hours ago based upon *inside sources*.

It's safe to assume that 90% of these claims are BS. Not that they matter, it wouldn't make any sort of financial sense to not market the 5870's in the largest computer market in the world (ie US)

the only cause I can think of is as a customer test bed. They had enormous negative feedback recently with the M17x. Make it available to a smaller market, work out the bugs then spam the larger market with the quirks worked out.

5870's in Europe first, that stinks. So every body in Europe orders the 5870's and puts them in backorder for the US for a month. Only a guess but we get to order them in mid May??? Guess we will see in a few days.

Lozz does have a good point. With a product that might have some problems they release them to a smaller audience. But since the 5870's are highly anticipated they might not have done that.

I wouldnt say Europe is a smaller audience. There is just as much market overseas if not more than there is in the US. Most technology is available in Europe/Asia before the US market. IE Japan already has the Toshiba "cell" TV... not out in the US till fall. Europe and Asia have had high def broadcasting way before the US. The latest cell phones usually hit europe or asia first... I could go on and on!

Question is when in May if that is the case, because if it takes another month to get another one with a 5870, and they release the new cards at the end of May, then I won't be able to get it :( as I will be leaving for the UK at the end of June.

I should receive the one I've already ordered soon so at least I'll have one either way, just may be without a 5870 :(
