Hmmm, my computer locks up when I try to start both 06 and Vantage, anyone else having these problems? I'm going to uninstall then reinstall

since I am new to the ATI gang, can someone point me in the right direction to install updated no-Dell drivers?

 

From what ive been hearing, you may not want to do that as of yet, but i suppose from the ATI website.

I just did another windows 7 install since the drivers got hosed on the last one. Flashed both 5870s to 900/1000 with 1.1v. Hopefully it doesn't melt lol. Going to run vantage as soon as it's done installing.

Not yet, that's coming up in a few minutes. I'm going to make a bunch of incremental .rom files (10 mhz increments starting at 800). Stick with flashing for overclocking, it works much better than GPU Tool so far.

I really think these drivers are holding the cards back. Whatever modifications Dell did, it cut the performance down. Unfortunately, getting the ATi drivers working is a bit tricky, its been giving me BSOD's. I'm 150 points away from 15k right now. I just did some tweaks so I'm hoping this next run hits 15k with 900/1000.

Man I think I got a lemon. When I try to run 06 or Vantage the whole computer locks up then have to do a hard shutdown. Whenver I try to restart or shut down, it will start to shut down but then it will hang with the lights on then I have to press the power button. I've reformatted twice, once with a different hard drive. I'm ticked to say the least, and I leave Monday for two weeks

 

Are you using the Dell 5870 drivers? If you use anything but those, BSOD's and lockups happen. Make sure you install the chipset driver first and foremost. Then install the Dell 5870 drivers.

 

yuppie, i am getting a replacement unit with 5870 Dual 1GB with crossfirex, can't wait to play games.

 

No I got the ones off of ATI's site, they installed fine with no BSOD. I'll try the Dell drivers, I pray they work

 

Joker, when I check the disk that came with the computer, the drivers on it say the drivers are for 4870 video cards, will they still work?

 

Yes it works (i put 5870 drivers on my cfx4870 to see the 3dmark score : i lost 500 points so try it and compare your scores) but when dell 'll launch the bios a06 i think (i hope) we can install the last mobility drivers without bugs.

 

Yes but I recommend you go to support.dell.com and download the 5870 drivers for the R2. Your BSOD's and lockups will go away.

Hey!!! Did ya try 10.3 preview drivers for ati because these drivers got the best score around 300-400 points more on m15x as compared to 10.4 and 10.5.. Ill try to dig the link...

Joker, I downloaded the drivers like you said, everything worked awesome and then I ran 06, worked like a charm. My score was 6237....it was one of those moments. cpu score was 2799. I'm too tired to post a screen shot, going to bed. At least this thing isn't locking up anymore thank you for the help.

 

Your system is definitely okay. Check to make sure stealth mode isn't turned on, sometimes it does that. Also ensure your power is set to high performance.

I posted my benches in the other thread, but I'm a bit disappointed. My new 820 is scoring around 10.5 to 11.2 or so in CPU, and my other one scores 12.5 or so in Vantage. It's tempting to switch them, but maybe not worth it.

At stock clocks, I'm seeing Vantage scores around P12.2 or so.

 

It has nothing to do with the processor. It's just the way the bios and drivers work together with the 5870s. The 920xm people are the only ones so far hitting 13.5k stock, the rest of us are getting anywhere from 500-1000 points less. I guess the 5% OC for the entire system helps.

Sorry, should have clarified. I was talking about the CPU score, not the overall score. My overall scores have been varied. I'm doing a fresh driver install, so we'll see.

Little more awake now. Gonna do this last thing, then off to bed. Will do official benches tomorrow.

i just put a reply in benchin thread why it was being built in china lol! i was worried incase that was 'refurbed parts' area! its now in NL for me=) EDD is 4th=) and my wacom 21ux is due 2nd-3rd =)

 

dont worry. it goes by airplane to eindhoven NL and then on truck to UK. its around three business days. For everybody else except me. look my signature.

 

awww...at least you're not in my situation. EDD @ June 2, but I don't get to Vegas until 12th June. And then I must fly off to Hong Kong on the 14th, and then Shanghai, of all places lol.

 

My EDD is 3 June. Shipped 20 May, ordered 7 May. well if you imagine i am waiting for a machine with dual 4870s (perfect except this) and not 5870s then its worst than your case. Thus it wasnt my fault but Dells fault selecting the slowest way possible to avoid transfer cost. And UPS is not must better judging from the ways they selected. They changed my EDD three times since it was shipped. 1-2-3 June and who knows if will delay it even more. I keep refresh tracking just to feel better if its in a country more near mine.

and dont forget warranty starts from the day its shipped. so i will lose half a month without even having the machine in my hands.

And even after i have it i have to call them to send a technician to install the bluetooth module because they forgot to add it to the order.

And EU Dell doesnt have return policy on replacements otherwise i wouldnt even accept it. Get a refund and bye bye.

There's nothing to envy about. 5870CF proved to be only 10-15% faster but also ~20% warmer. 87C during a Vantage run is a deal breaker for me. Even if AMD claims it's a safe temperature, I doubt this is still true when gaming constantly.

Also, have you seen the x7200? Looks very powerful. Keep an eye on the Computex in 4 days from now, - the new Clevo's will be showcased there.

 

I feel for you. I won't really have a chance to run in my new system while I am in America. So, any defects will probably not manifest themselves until I am back here, which is the worst place to have something to break down.

 

Ok here is a noob question, how do I check the Stealth Mode? I went into the bios but couldn't see anything?
