This is excellent, bud.
Thanks! Also, which map did you test it with?

DaneGRClose Notebook Virtuoso
The very last one, I can't remember what it's called but the one where you wipe out Kerrigan. Can't remember what map it was on the multi-player but both tests were in the same match that was quite long in similar situations for 3 mins per test using fraps and hotkey overclocking with Afterburner.

I can't wait.
Thx again! -

Anyone with the 6970M was able to OC yet?
MSI afterburner does not allow me to change anything with the 6970M -

I have the 2720QM with the HyperX and it runs much faster on the XMP Profile 2. its a 9-9-9-27 profile. might want to change that.

pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
I know it's been asked-but anyone OC the 6970 yet? And if so how?
-
DaneGRClose Notebook Virtuoso
I know Inap and Speedy have "overclocked" theirs a bit, they did it by flashing the vBios as I don't think any of the software has/had the support for the 6970.
-
Rivatuner supports 6970M.
-
Anyone know if any of the other progs been updated to support 6970M yet? (e.g. MSI Afterburner, ATI Tool, etc.)? -
pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?

I overclock my 6970M with rivatuner for test the frequences and then i flash my card with atiflash
-
Can anyone do a DIY on the 6970 overclocking?
Also Im getting a little over 12k on my Vantage score (3dmark) is that what its supposed to be with my config (in my sig) -
peoples are getting 14-15k with 2630QM + 6970, so I'd say you're on the low end.
-
-
That's a very subjective question.
I would love to have a 2920XM, but the fact that my 2630 keeps pace with last gen XM (at stock) keeps me more than happy. -
Please advise.

Does that have anything to do with single core clocks, which during the BIOS/Win7 loadup is only single core non-turbo on the MSI also?
-
So what can be the issue with mine? i did a clean install..
(getting 12k vantage score on my config)
some facts - my ssd is set to ATA profile in the bios, cant change to anything else because im getting a blue screen
XMP proile changes to default everytime i reboot.
the cpu i set to 10019
P.S please help guys, Im getting depressed -
pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?

that is not much better than GTX 460M + i7-2630QM
~8% @06
~20% @vantage -
It's my GPU score that seems to be lower then others (around 10k iirc). Possibly something running in the background hogging resources? -
are the people who are getting 14k overall scores overclocking?

Kune, Do you always run you ram on 1600Mhz?
-
For Kune, how do you really max out the hyperx performance? I set the frequency to 1600 and xmp profile 1, but cpu z still shows my memory clock as 1333 (667 each)
Did I do anything wrong?Or did I miss something?Or I should set it to xmp profile 2 instead?Attached Files:

xmp1
save/exit
1600 override
save/exit
Maybe it's not possible with A03, but that's what was up with A01 -
Can I do anything with the stock ram? It's 1333 4gb fyi, and I have 2720qm. Or am I stuck on 1333, which is so far kind of a bummer. I really wish it was a bit better at "multi-tasking", cuz I was trying to open Windows Updates (from the system tray) while I was running an AVG scan. Also felt the same slowness at a different time, when I was extracting a large file through 7zip, and was trying to open AlienFX. It also seems like everytime I try to open up the AlienFX program, it takes forever to open... Any suggestions?

You will be bottle-necked on your HD if you don't have a fast SSD. HD's have pretty much been bottlenecking PC's for awhile now. -
Can you give me an example of a couple of progs to try out (simulataneously) to demonstrate how good "new school" 4gb ram is? I wanna see what the diff between this and my old 1gb ram is(Don't say SC2
)
-
Can't really sorry...
I have NEVER noticed a difference in memory clocks. The main bottleneck in PC's for the last 5 years has been HDD's. When you launch anything especially multiple things simultaneously it has to search around the whole HD and the head moves back and forth as quick as possible to gather up all the data. -
Meh. Good thing I didn't choose to upgrade ram on my order -
I reacon something like this to test your memory latency.
Tweakers.fr
And then go to work at flashing the epprom of the SPD on the RAM.
SPDTool: Read, Edit and Flash your Memory's SPD
If no one else give this a try, I will when I get mine.
Both software needs updating, but you get my drift. -

I have pushed my base clock to 10520Hz, which boosted my clock speed over 100MHz above the stock 2.3GHz.
This gives me just over 2.4GHz or if you wanna call it 2416MHz
And a tad over 1400 MHz on my stock 16GB
I going to tweak the memory next. The BIOS has a bunch of timings sets, I am going to edit them -

Check THIS!!! 5150Joker linked me to it and the first 3D 06 I ran with some OCing was 20568. Didn't have much time to play, but it definetely helped. Awesome.

I'll assume that was Brian's 6970 OC guide though, which is here -
This is my score with the stock 16GB - 1333MHz RAM shipped with my M17x R3 and i7-2820QM
Appears that my stock slow RAM at slightly under stock speeds beats, your RAM overclocked in everything hands down, except for your RAM read and latency speed.
After opening the machine I can verify I have this RAM:
Brand = Micron
Model # MT16JSF51264HZ-1G4D1 1105
Type = 4GB 2RX8 PC3-10600S-9-10-FP
Chip markings = MT IBD77 / D9LGK
If anyone can verify what chips their HyperX uses, might need to look under the heatspreader?
Then if I can get a SPD dump of the HyperX, I will attempt to modifiy the Stock Micron RAM to be seen as and run as DDR3-1600 with XMP profiles.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -

I found it started to weird things slighty over 104MHz which is 10400KHz in the M17x R3 BIOS.
Goto Advanced --> Performance Options Menu --> OverClocking Feature set to enable
And then change New Frequency in 10KHz to anywhere 10200 - 10300 and you should be safe.
Alway choose "Apply New Bus Clock" Immediately. That way if it goes wrong, it does not hold the setting after forced power off (if you have to do one). If ok then choose "Permanently (reboot), hit F10 on your way out to save changes.
Allow ~+14KHz to round off your overclock.
Hey it is not much, but better than nothing
Something I have noticed about the memory. I am trying to find ways to overclock this stuff, but it does not want to go past 1333 with the selectors. Although I have found you can obtain tight timing set of CAS=7 @ 1067 by setting:
Memory Override Support = Enabled
Memory voltage = 1.5v
Memory Frequency = 1067
DIMM Profile (XMP) = Default
Update:
Progress made with tighter timings using the 1333 selection down to CAS 8
You must go 8-6-6 in the BIOS, otherwise if both the 6's are set to 8 instead, they will both will jump up to 10.
Memory Override Support = Enabled
Memory voltage = 1.5v
Memory Frequency = 1333
DIMM Profile (XMP) = Custom setting
tCL = 8
tRCD = 6
tRP = 6
Then change tRAS from 20 to 19, this will give you an even key set main timings of 8-8-8-24
Results below, scores are higher than the last above screenshot (in my post two up and in dookies quote) at 9-9-9-24:
More Tweaking:
Have got to, and final for now, stable CAS 8-7-7-22
Breaking 17k on writes, and over 20k on copy, and good latency of 57ns
Settings for to obtain these timings are as follows, enjoy and have fun if you Micron RAM as stock. You may get further with 8GB instead of 16GB that I am currently runnning.
New Frequency in 10KHz set to 10032 for a steady 100.1MHz base clock
Memory Override Support = Enabled
Memory voltage = 1.55v
Memory Frequency = 1333
DIMM Profile (XMP) = Custom setting
tCL = 8
tRCD = 5
tRP = 5
tRAS = 17
