Is this the same driver that Dell uses for their drivers? -

Warning for anyone running the beta drivers, in the recent set of Windows Updates for win 8 that came out this week, it for some reason decided my PC needed the old Sept 2012 AMD and Intel WDDM 1.1/1.2 gfx drivers. After it installed these my laptop couldn't even get back into Windows.
My advice for this round of updates is set it to manual install, check the list for these two updates, if you see them then right-click and choose Hide. -

hmm so how to install these drivers without a bsod ? (atikmpag.sys)
I just got my m17x, unpacked it and tried to install this driver, after a reboot I get the above BSOD a few seconds in windows.
I tried installing without deinstalling the stock drivers (8.934.2.0 <- which version is this anyway ?), and tried with uninstall the stock, same bsod appears ...
Im new doing all windows updates (windows 7), i just go back to my restore point when it gives me a bsod again ... anyone else experiencing this ? -
ok so i fixed it
first i installed ALL windows updates (also not critical ones)
then i installed the 12.11 driver without uninstall anything
didnt reboot and installed the cap driver
reboot -

nope now I dont have a BSOD anymore
played 5 hours csgo on ultra and rebooted a few times, didnt see a bsod -
sadly enough the problem came back
so i ordered a ssd and im gonna install windows 8 on it and try again
im sure its not a hardware error cause the stock drivers work great -
I am also getting a BSOD a few seconds after Windows login every time I install these drivers.

Alienware M17xR4, Windows 7, AMD 7970M
Tried it two ways:
Install over the drivers that are currently on the Dell Support site
Uninstalled the old drivers, used Driver Sweeper and CCleaner to wipe, then installed the new drivers.
Both resulted in BSOD -
today im going to install windows 8 on a ssd
ill let you guys know the result -
ok all problems solved after installing windows 8

Bumped into a new problem.
I just tried opening CCC and it just dont want to run, says something about no amd drivers or incompatibel drivers being installed and can't launch.
"The are currently no settings that can be configured with catlyst control center"
So yea can't luanch CCC :S -
If so, completely remove all the current drivers and then reinstall AMD catalyst 12.11 -
-
A file may have corrupted while overwriting the old installation, but performing a clean installation doesn't take that much time and will most certainly fix your problem.
How to do a clean video driver installation
Also look under programs and features for any AMD program installed and remove it before re-installing. -
Strange it stopped working because I had seen it working when I first updated CCC
Still, thanks for the help -
the only thing I can do then is logg off bij pressing CTR+alt+del. And then logging back in will put me back on AMD GPU -
Pretty damm old and useless, even shows up the old ATI logos -
Alienware m17xr4 with 7970m and would like to add my BSOD issues to the discussion. I was running the factory bios (A06 or maybe A05) but saw that dell released A09 so I updated with the dell.exe. Then I updated with the 12.11beta11_NET4 plus Cap 2 from AMD (install over dell amd drivers).
I was home for 2 weeks playing lots of games and I think it BSODed about 5 times. Never just after reboot but not even during a game, just randomly. This is when I noticed that my linux boot was no longer able to start X server as when I would return to the office, the computer had reboot and linux was stuck without an xserver.
I left that issue to be dealt with today, first day back to work, and I have been unable to fix linux nor boot the live-cd-installer (linux mint 14). After googling all day, I now see that dell has bios at version a10. But I am scared to install it because if I BSOD during BIOS update, I am screwed.
Anyway, I think it is 2 separate issues, the bios borked my linux and the AMD betas are causing the BSOD (win7 64bit btw). I think this as the BSOD was 50baff91 in atikmpag.sys (or something close to that).
Not really a question, but just to add it is not perfect for everybody. Sending my days worth of billable hours to dell since in my mind, they should release newer drivers for this flagship graphics card. I find it completely unacceptable that they are still stuck on drivers from last summer. Now, it looks like they released a buggy bios (a09) on top. Love my laptop, but at times like this, not liking dell at all.
EDIT: Just did a FnF7 and am now running with only the 7970m. Linux is able to boot fine. Since the BSODs are sporadic, not sure if this will fix that problem as well, but for now, at least, one problem solved. -
I installed these fine, however when I try to use overclocking software something is not right. In sapphire trixxx all values = 0 and the slider goes to 10. In msi afterburner none of the gpu core clock options show up. Anyone else experience this? I'm using a 6990m.
I've also tried running metro 2033 twice. It hung on the start once. The next time I played a level and there was a noticeable improvement from the last drivers I was using (12.3), but when I tried to quit the game my computer froze. Both times I was using hwinfo to log, so I'll try a run without it tomorrow. -
Wooo works superb great drivers. I did a clean install with cap on m17r2 920xm 6990's CF.
