After thinking about it I wouldn't be surprised if a USB to power switch didn't already exist.
-
-
what if you take an apple power adapter, which has usb and get a usb extender and see if that works..
-
-
.... i will make a Switch for one of yall and send it .... show you how simple it is
-
I wonder if something like this would work but just dont hook up the second computer.. that way when I hit the button, if there is no second computer, it would turn it off...

Well if it could get power through it. interesting idea though.. -

Hey Guys -
I just recieved a Cryo Lx cooler... I am having some troubles with it and was hoping one of you guys could help me...
When i plug this thing into the wall via the ac adapter for the wall, the fans barely even blow... they turn on and off on and off and so on... when i turn the fan speed knob up just a tiny bit, then they go full blast... and when i turn the knob to full/max, they go super soft and go on and off on and off..
I really love the look and feel of this cooler and wanted to mod it like in this "topic" here... http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=391310
and put led fans in them... I just wanted to know if this is a known issue that can be fixed with others out there and if putting new fan in (leds) would solve the problem..
thanks guys -
How come you need a cooler? I thought this had one of the best cooling options for laptops stock?
-
Lowkey69ac every little bit helps.. I noticed a big diff with it on..
I havent had the issue that you are describing. I have seen others have it.
It has ranged from bad power adapter to bad fans.. ppl have replaced either or / or both and been fine.. I personally would get a replacement... It seems that the control for the fan speed may be messed up too.
Did you plug into ac and into usb at the same time to see if they speed up.. -
hey guys the plug that goes to the cryo from the USB for power
is it USB to USB?
OR USB to special AC adapter plug ? -
-
There are a few ways it can be hooked up.
AC wall => ac plug on cooler only (not fully powered)
Ac Wall => ac plug on cooler and USB => USB for more power (fully powered cooler) ==> this is how i have it set up
USB on notebook => ac adapter on cooler only (not fully powered)
USB on notebook => ac adapter on cooler and USB => USB (fully powered)
USB => USB only (not fully powered)
I think I got them all. -
Thanks Kilthro -
I only had it plugged into the ac to wall outlet plug( whatever thats called), i really cant check to see if it bettered powered up via the usb to usb plug in yet though, not while im still waiting on my m17x...
thanks for the info
EDIT: i just bought 3 Cooler Master R4 Series 120mm Fan - Green LED (pump out 90 cfms and is 19 dBA)
http://www.xoxide.com/coolermaster-r4-120mmfan-green.html
hopefully this works... -

Mandrake -
Do you have any suggestions of a certain led or CCFL 120mm fans that i would see? I hope this isnt busting me in the chops for $30 and not being able to see it -
Well you'll see them when the laptop is not on it but kinda defeats the purpose. There is also a chance that if it glows bright enough the light could come out the side on the bottom. Won't know until you try it.
-
thanks mandrake i guess ill try it nonetheless
Update: My cryo lx cooler still does not work even with the usb to usb and the ac to socket plugged into it... I believe it has something to do with the volume wheel... so im going to get a replacement since the look and feel of this puppy is great.... -
Take a picture of it with the laptop on it after your mod so we can see if the lights come through.
-
Any luck on a usb power switch for this?
-
I haven't looked. One of those nice to have but not necessary things.
-
Anybody tried the Belkin laptop cooling hub?

thanks for the info

The Cryo is the best one ?
-
Someone on this site (Whizzo) who reviews coolers recommended the Cryo based on fan positioning.
-
Stupid question I have never used or seen IRL a cooler before, can you use it on your lap when you are on your bed ?
-
Honestly I don't think a cooler is necessary for this notebook. I can overclock a t9900 from 3.06ghz to 3.46ghz without the use of a notebook cooler and it runs stable. I would only get a cooler if you really just want your laptop running icy cold and are just anal about every detail being perfect or if you have the notebook in a high temperature room.
-
-
EDIT: hope that didnt go over your head.... -
recheck that -
You review the coolers? I remember reading some of Whizzo's reviews.
-
no not that i suggested it first and he said its wasn't good
Then later he changed
its in the owners lounge we argued about it -
I see. What did he recommend initially?
-
nothing if i remember correctly (zalaman 200o)
---yes i am petty

if nothing else....this cooler makes you look like you are here to do some serious business. I have the silver and black one for use with an OCZ whitebook and it is pretty good lucky, I can only assume the cooling is working? Got a lot more mods planned for my notebook, by the time I am done, I KNOW that the cooler will be helping.

I have 30 post per page -

TBH it confused me lol. -
you sent me the wrong link

BTW... Looks that you guys don't have a conclusion -
we do its earlier in this thread
nvm i have no idea where it is any more -
UPDATE: Well i modded my cryo Lx with 3 coolmaster LED fans... however, these certain models of LED fans are upside down on the cryo Lx, the leds are only on one side... And the fan controller is still shutting off/blinking the fans, apparently I need to find out how to find a better fan controller... ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE HELPFUL to where to find a better fan controller... any where they sell these?
How are the fans supposed to be blowing on the cryo Lx anyway, just to make sure ( i forgot to check)... up or sucking the air out of the laptop...
im trying to post pics right now, but camera is being charged -
It is supposed to blow into the laptop. Take some pics when you get a chance.
-
€UPDATE:i think i may have found the solution... they started shipping these with only a 5 volt ac adaptor NEVERMIND SOMETHING WENT WRONG WHEN TRIED THE 12 VOLT ADAPTOR DO NOT TRY... these puppy can handle up to 12volts i believe... will update when i have gotten one 12 volt adator... nevermind this may be a bad idea!!!
Mandrake: alright man... but it sucks... the fans LED line should be on the other side.. but one the bright side, these fans hull, and are very silent... (90 CFM, @ 19 decibals) -

I never trust manufacturer sound ratings, use the fan yourself and decide based on that. I use Scythe S-Flex "G" fans alot and despite their quiet rating, they aren't (still great though, got 6 in use)
I modded my Cryo LX slightly to hold my notebook better, I'll post pics shortly.
Here is said pic:
The red boxes show where I trimmed off the slick-as-snot black plastic and made a notch that the feet of my Whitebook (same as M17) rest in. It locks strongly in place and wont slip now. Something like this will probably work for the M17x as well. Also puts the fans at the right place although you can adjust that by moving where you make the notch. -
BTW the hub on the Cryo cooler creates extra latency and audio pops during games. I no longer keep it plugged into my system

Yes.

have we decided which of the two are better yet? I kust ordered my m17x tonight...
