I actually own both, the NC-2000 is a fantastic cooler of superb design, but the vents are mostly in the front. If you want your fans to line up with the vents on the bottom of your M17X, you're going to want the Cryo LX.

seconded since i said it before....

has anyone tried the "mod" that I showed in my picture with the m17x? Because I know it is slippery and scooting the laptop forward some should help line the fans up shouldn't it? Or is the M17x already a good fit on the Cryo LX?
-
I don't have any issues with movement.
-

Ok, just wanted to check. I have to scoot my whitebook about an inch forward, then it will slide, so I made the notches to catch and hold the feet, worked really well for that model.
-
I should probably say I haven't noticed it moving.

Also, a note about powering the cooler, if you actually read the instructions (WEIRD I know) it states that it is recommended to use BOTH the AC and USB for power. Use the USB port to the left of the AC input when looking at the rear of the unit.

scook
mine fits well on mine... something grips the M17x to where it doesnt slide off...cant move down, it catches... not a bad thought to mod this still to make a better, even more grippable -

Ya it sounds like the notches already built on it match to feet on the m17x. The ones for the m17 are a little narrower so just had to open up the inside edge of two notches to achieve the same effect.

Hi,
My gpu temps can go up to 71 degrees centigrade when i play crysis. Is it ok? I am using the NZXT Cryo lx. -
That's fine. Did the fans max out? I don't think they do until 80.
-
What do you mean by "did the fans max out". the nosie created by the fan increased significantly when i played crysis compared to when i am on idle. i maxed out my cooler fans too.
thanks for your help in advance -
You can tell there are 3 modes the fans go into. At one point they are loud enough it's hard to not hear them but you should hear the fans increase at least twice.
-
Ok thanks. So i should not worry if my gpu temps do not hit 80 degrees centigrade right? Are there any other ways to lower the temps for my gpu? My idle temps are 52 degrees centigrade for my first gpu and 41 for the second
-
80 would be fine, 90 I's start getting worried. One easy way for cooler temps is to use a notebook cooler. More invasive ways is under clocking the cards via a vbios flash or taking it apart lapping the heat sink and reapplying thermal paste.
-
I'm already using a notebook cooler, the NZXT cryo lx.
-

you can replace the fans in the Cryo for better performance. You can also put better thermal paste on the GPUs. You can also use a higher voltage ac/dc power supply for the Cryo so that the fans get the full 12V instead of just 5V
All that said, under 80 is fine for the GPUs, and for the noise, use a headset -
thanks for the advice. May i know specifically which fans should i replace the cryo ones with?

whatever you want
I have 3 Scythe SFF21G fans, but they run LOUD. They were just a known quantity for me since my desktop uses them -

Hello All,
I'm torn between two notecook coolers (Cryo LX and Zalman NC2000), and I'm hoping to get some advice to help me decide.
I have a M17X R2 on order and I plan on doing a lot of gaming sitting on my bed. I will use it occasionally at my desktop, but mostly while in bed.
For those folks who own these, any suggestions on which one will work for my scenario?
Thanks!! -
I have the same exact question. When my m17x r2 comes in it will be used in bed a lot watching blu-rays. Need cooling pad advice. -

My m17x isn't arriving until Monday, but I currently have an m1730 that I'm using coolers with. I bought both the Cryo and the Zalman... the Cryo is definitely my favorite. It's puts out a LOT more air and feels as though it is built better. Having the extra usb ports on the back is a nice touch too! I haven't tried it yet, but I think it might fit in my Orion mesenger bag with the front folded back.
The Zalman on the other hand, feels much cheaper and has weaker airflow.
The Zalman will be better though if you plan to use it on your lap, as I am right now. The Cryo is all metal and has some sharp edges that will dig into your skin. Just something to consider. -

I fit both my M17x and the Cryo in my Orion Backpack regularly
-
Thanks for the info. I had no idea it takes about 5 weeks for them to build a M17x
-
I couldnt find any nzxt cryo lx...i am owning a m17x-r2 too...could anyone help me out? I am located in perth, australia. New to NRB...
-
The best notebook cooler for the M17X is the homemade one I made...
-
The Cryo looks pretty good but as Raziel66 mentioned, it has sharp metal edges underneath which turned me right off it. I want a cooler for my lap, not my desk.
My old cooling pad was the Coolermaster Notepal Infinite. I liked this, the fans are at the back so air flow wasn't obstructed if you were using it on your lap/on the bed - although the fan noise was quite noticeable - even at the lowest setting.
I recently bought a new one though, the Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700. It's very comfortable on my lap with all the padding. The fan is in the middle with intake directly underneath with an on/off switch (no adjustable fan speed but it seems quite sufficient as is). The integrated speakers are handy and have pretty good sound. The width is great but it could use a little more depth to accommodate a 17" notebook (mine hangs over the back by ~1cm) as they're designed for 15" notebooks.
If you're looking for this in Australia, only Officeworks currently stock it here. -
I am not looking for comfort, i want a notebook cooler that fits an m17x-r2. And it's used for intensive gaming. Wondering if anyone is willing to part with their nzxt cryo lx and willing to post internationally, all at my expense. I wanted to post this in NBR marketplace, but i don know why i cant post a new thread. So instead i came here..maybe someone might be able to help me. Thanks.
-
-
The bad thing is i don know how...it would help me a lot if someone can find it for me, or willing to part with his nzxt cryo lx.
-
The Cryo just wastes so much airflow on not having a good simple grill over the fans. It's not even pure mesh, but with solid bars over the outflow. Waste in an otherwise good device.
-
so which 1 would you say is good? for an m17x-r2? i have been looking at the zalman nc2000 and enermax aeolus...these 2, out of them i think i prefer the cryo, since it's having the most fan with highest rpm, and the holes are where the m17x-r2 have the vent at. Which is at the top part.
-
Anyone try this cooler for it? Thermaltake Notebook cooler Model CLN0008
I'm not wild with the super bulky design and ac adapter + usb required for full power for the nzxt
Newegg.com - Thermaltake Notebook cooler Model CLN0008 -
I hooked my NZXT up to a dsktops PSU and installed 3 90CFM fans and the temps were pretty much the same no matter what. Honestly at this point Im just going to prop the back up for a better angle and always make sure the vents are clear; rather then bother with coolers anymore.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Having the back propped up is most of the battle
The only time I can think of when it will matter to have the additional fans is to cool the HDD's and RAM when you have the bottom cover and the ram door both removed -
Incidentally, I've managed to locate a supplier that seems to have a few Cryo LX's in stock and have PM'd you details. -
The total price for it to reach my hands is about USD170, which is about AUD200. It's good but not worth AUD200 for a cooler...Maybe someone that have a used one that might want to sell..
-
They seemed discontinued/unavailable everywhere else except the one place I found in US/CA. (I'd assume there are others, I didn't spend much time looking).
Good luck in your search should you decide to look for an alternative or trying to obtain one from a member of the forums. -
Notebook cooler will actually decrease the airflow to the intake of the laptop. Notebook is designed to suck the air from the bottom and push it back. The notebook cooler also suck the air from the bottom of the laptop and push it back. So they are both sucking each other's airflow. It will be only effective if the notebook cooler actually blows air into the notebook, but I've never seen anything like that. Someone needs to check if Cryo is sucking the air or blowing the air to the laptop. So only way to really aerodynamically enhance it will be lifting the laptop up with stand.
-
Actually after quickly researching all the high end notebook cooler, I could not find one that does what you say. All of the high end just blow air into the notebook.
I just don't know why so many people mis-inform over the internet. Maybe you just used your notebook cooler upside down mate...
Example: Zalman-NC 2000:
-
I have the Cryo, it works quite well, the hot areas on the face of the M17x actually do feel cooler when it's running. The edges however are very SHARP!!!! I was pissed, slammed my hand down and cut about 1/4" piece of skin back on my left pinky.... should have got stitches but just bandaged it up and kept going.
Outside of possible loss of fingers it's a great unit -
Not too thrilled about the design of the cryo lx, is there anyone who has tried the Thermaltake CLN0008 or Lianli NC-09? Though it seems the Cryo LX still offers the best cooling from what I've seen.
-
Yea the cryo is awesome and highly recommended.. You do have to be careful with it.. It will cut/pinch ya.. not made to be mobile. Also if you carry it in the same bag as the M17x, get ready for one heavy bag... I quit doing that as it was to much when carrying the bag at long intervals.

dang, anyone know any vendors with stock on the cryo LX?
