Try running it off the battery instead of the power adapter. I know on my old M7700 and my m17xR2, the power brick would make a noise that corresponded to movement on the screen sometimes. Scrolling a window would trigger it, for example.
-
If that's the case, MAY I PASS ON THIS SOUND ?
-
Coil noise from the GPU sounds more like a squeal. CPU whine is more of a high pitch whine. Hard to explain. Coil noise is normally the louder of the two -
Can't say for others, but in my case, battery or A/C won't change one iota.
And again, in my case, the sound is always there, and does not get worse when scrolling, it's just there, all the time, like an old friend, but I do not appreciate those "friends"... -
and about the LED screen, when i open this webpage the background is a bit yellowish, while my vaio shows it white. Is this normal for LED screen?
-
i should be reddish not yellowish with the stock rgbled
-
LOL.. maybe our alienware are constanly communicating with each other, that's why they continuously emits morse code signal..
sigh..
-
hmm then something is wrong with this LED..
anyway to test if this is indeed a LED screen?
-
Noise seems to come more from the left side on my M17X, I've got only one GPU, 260; strangely, this card is sitting on the left of the lappy...Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

Mine looks yellowish in the left upper corner
It's not an RGB it's a YRB -
Did the cards arrive ? and what about the your screen, did you complain ? -
The cards should arrive either today or tomorrow.
I didn't complain about the screen. Probably I'm just being too picky and had a super good experience with laptops before, my friends could barely notice the yellowish hue only after I pointed it out to them. I assume those hues are the price you have to pay for the RGB LED. If I see another M17X and find its screen much better, - will call Dell and get mine replaced. Till then - it's acceptable. -
I'm very picky with screens too and there isn't a hint of yellow on mine anywhere. If yours has a yellow hue, its probably defective. Is it a Samsung model? I know Dell has LG and Samsung now.
-
the model of mine is reported as K1NFP€170CT.. i believe it's the samsung.
-
Same as mine -> Samsung.
What is yours, Joker? -
As far as the ones with morse-code sounding noises, it doesn't seem normal. I have not heard any kind of noise from mine at all other than the fans running on low. I even put my ear close to the laptop in different areas and hear nothing out of the ordinary. This is my 4th laptop and I've never heard noises like that on any of them. -
-
Same one.

Speaking of screens. When do you think we're going to see M17x with 3D screen?
-
Does anyone have a 3D screen?

I did not realize everyone was so eager to have to wear those awesome glasses while playing a game.....
lol -
those glasses gonna be the next fashion item i think, with all kind of 3D coming soon..
LOL...
we don't know that alienware is going to focus on 3d or at least release the ATI DX11 1st!! -
3d is going to get HUGE. Oh and you won't need glasses in the future. That technology is already out there.
-
Hmmm... anyone know why the bosses shut down Alienware's Random Thread? It was my favorite one.

I like that one

Did they had the 3d glasses for years now.
-
Then they just let the driver die. Seems like it wouldn't be all that difficult to resurrect support for the technology. -
Wow, I didn't know Nvidia had one even before the current one. I had a Geforce 2 but it didn't have a jack like that I don't think.
Well, at any rate, so-called "3D" is a NEGATIVE for me after having to endure it to see Avatar. -
Got the secondary GPU replaced today (the card they brought looked heavily used) it solved the distortions I had with CF enabled, but now I have the famous flickering again....
Will need to reinstall the drivers and/or reflash the BIOS.
Dellienware lost my vote. -
-
On topic: I can't wait for my new M17x. My current laptop's hinge is pretty much broken so any slight tap on the desk and the screen falls. -
-
-
-
is it the same flickering that was before ?
-
No it's the "clouds/grass/trees" type of flickering in Crysis. It was fixed in my R1 by moving from 9.12+modder to 10.3. So I assume that the driver needs to be reinstalled again.

Aikimox,
On Crysis make sure you have the latest patch, plus the Crytec 'hot fix' installed. Else you will get mondo flashing, flickering of on screen elements.
- Denver -
Thanks, Denver.
I'm not really into Crysis, just put the demo in to see if the major problem is gone. Finished downloading King's Bounty TAP and everything is super smooth. So the problem is fixed. -
forget crysis, it's so 2007
i am currently enjoying batman for the second time, as well as cod world at war 2... and mass effect 2 is still waiting for me -
So has anyone noticed that the RGB LED display is no longer and option on the American site? Its still up on the Canadian page (although the non-LED 1200p screen has been gone for a few days now).
-
Must be a temporary supply shortage. Seems to be a major problem with Dell lately. -
Probably temporary shortages. There's a world-wide shortage of LED/RGB LED screens.
-
Lol, Joker. You're fast.
-
had always assumed that Alienware Canada just imports the laptops from the U.S distribution center, get's charged duties, then they charge us PST/GST. How are they going to explain charging us hundreds more now... -
I read that the 940XM was coming out early third quarter of this year. Is it something to wait for or just a small increase in frequency compared to the 920XM?
