Joker I was very tired last night and asked what a hard drive does lol. I wanted to know what the freefall part of the description meant. I fell asleep right after I posted that. I cracked up when I just read it. As far as the latency goes... If you cant detect it with the naked eye or ear :) then I dont care if it is happeneng. As long as it is undectectable by my senses then why keep trying to find it. I have a 2004 Mustang Cobra. Some of these cars came with the dreaded head tick. It is a tapping sound coming from one of the heads due to premature wear. Alot of the guys or gals that bought these cars have it and paid alot of money and time to fix this. Mine has never had it from day one. I dorve myself nuts trying to listen for this tapping sound everyone was talking about. I finally had my car tuned when I got different supercharger pulleys and exhaust. The owner of the shop laughed when I told him I though my car had the dreaded "head tick". He told me I had quitest modular moter he had ever heard. It is as quit as my wifes Acura. So by looking for something really hard pretty soon it consumes you. I havent had any problems with my R2. Iv watched moves downloaded tons of music and played new games without one issue. I am very pick and notice everything. So please stop with the latency stuff or I will start calling tech support wanting it fixed ;). Lol. Thats just my .02 cents on this.

I agree with Joker, if a problem exists but doesn't bother me in any shape or form...well it's not really a problem (in my eyes) :)

Then go take your car to the dealer and ask them to remove all injectors and have them cleaned. Because the odds are one is a bit gummed up. You dont feel it when driving but if you remove them and have them tested you will see the spray pattern is not quite right. So you gonna pay 400 dolars for new one(s)? If it aint broke dont fix it is how the saying goes. If you expeience a problem then it is an issue. If you dont ever see it or hear it then why screw with it?

How does WoW run at Native Res on the R2.

I am thinking about picking one up but want to make sure there are no issues with WoW. Alot of people I guess have issues with the R1 DPC latency in WoW etc.

I'll gladly run the test on the R2 in 1-2 weeks from now (when it finally gets here).

It's well understood, nobody is gonna do a thing that doesn't affect him/her personally even though it may help others.
So enjoy your stutter free machines :)

With a 720QM, 4 gig of 1066 ram, dual 4870's, I've got it most of the way maxed out (ground clutter turned down to medium because it was annoying) and it usually runs at 60fps. If I spin around with the mouse as fast as possible in Dalaran, I can bring it down to high 20's. Usually runs high 40s there otherwise.

And the RGB LCD looks amazing for it.

You all are also assuming that us with R1s would not benefit from a direct comparison between the two showing the difference in latencies.

If Stamatisx is able to go to dell with the DPC results from his R1 and an R2 and show how black and white the difference is, it may highly aid in getting a replacement with a system he knows he can trust to not have latency issues.

These is an extensive thread on the DPC issue where replacements have been mentioned to the dell representatives there and hard data like this would greatly aid in helping us seek a resolution in the form of a replacement of the R1 with an R2

I think there is a shortage on the RGB screens, so that might be the reason it is not available. And it is not just Germany, it is all over. What some sales people claim to be the reason is not always true.

    :twitchy: ?????
LOL, wherefrom do you have this wisdom. There is actually nobody in german forums who has issues which are related to the RGB and ATI Xfire combination, if otherwise please show me a link to such a thread.

    Best regards

Well...I can tell you that I had problems with it.
I purchased an M17x R2 with i7 720QM and RGB. Issue was that the 2nd GPU wasn`t displayed in the Hardware Manager. Then everything was changed by the technician: Both GPUs and the mainboard. Nothing changed...
Then the AW support mentioned that there is this problem with the ATI CF / i7 and the RGB. Therefore it is no longer available. And in my case I see that the GPU couldn`t have been the reason for the problems because they`ve been both changed. Only thing that has not been changed was the display.

I seem to found something i am not sure about if it is a problem or not. whenever i move the laptop really fast like when i lift it up fast. The laptop goes BSOD. Is that in anyway normal? Everything else seems to go fine, GFX cards work in CF and i did OCCT test and everything seems normal when i do other benchmarks.

Maybe it's parking the hdd and a critical read/write is being delayed or it's not unparking afterward? I don't know enough about the ff sensor to give much advice. As a test,I suppose you could disable it and see if the bsods stop, but you lose the protection the sensor provides. I don't think a quick lift with the sensor off will hurt your disk, since it's supposed to be able to handle a couple of gs while operating. Don't drop it tho :)

I reread your original question (much easier on PC than iphone) and realized I didn't answer the right question. It's normal for the ff sensor to park your hdd when it senses a quick movement, but shouldn't BSOD. So it seems like your sensor is at least detecting the movement. After that, I don't know. The driver could be corrupt or crashing--maybe try to uninstall/reinstall the driver? What does the BSOD say the problem is?

3vil, do you by chance have a spare HDD that you can clone your original HDD to and simulate the circumstances of the BSOD? Or another one you can install the O/S on?

ntoskrnl should not run while the computer is running, it's job is to boot windows as far as i know.

i still think it has something to do with the free fall sensor. There is no other logical explanation as far as i can see.
So, did you install and hard disk driver or something for it to work ? Can you disable the sensor ?

No all is original drivers. the way it came in. i wouldnt know where to find the sensor. And in any case i would rather keep it like this then disable something that could end up doing more damage. I really have to lift it up fast for the laptop to crash, but i never had the problem with another laptop before including the all powerful

My OS runs off an SSD and doesn't have that problem. My guess is the same, it's the free fall sensor causing his issues.

Well, I was unsure whether to try this out myself since I didn't want to find any issues. Either way, I went ahead and tried to replicate the issue, because I guess it's better to know in the end. Result: Nothing.

Now, believe me, I really tried, I even did a few moderate shakes in mid-air and nothing.

Also, I usually do move the computer from one room to another while it's doing something, open lid and all, even running a game. No issues here.

I have the HDD's that come default by Dell.

I agree it has to be on the drive otherwise it would work with SSDs too.

    *EDIT*
According to nburro there is an onboard accelerometer.
That means you can deactivate the onboard from the device manager and see if BSOD continue, then it is the drive.

I've been following this thread for quite some time now and I look forward to ordering an R2 when the 5870 refreash becomes available. I came across an offer that I think is too good to pass up but I wanted to get some second opinions on it. A guy that I know purchased two 256gb mushkin ssds and planned on using them in raid. He later found out that his laptop did not support raid so he has decided to sell them. I can lift one of them off of him for as little as 500USD. Does this seem like a good offer?

Maybe you have a loose connection somewhere in the computer? When you shake it or cause it to jerk in some way it could be moving enough to cause something to make your OS crash but still connected enough to work again on reboot.

Just a thought and is something that could happen, so check all the connections you can to make sure. Even check to make sure your RAM is seated all the way too. I had a similar problem with a co-workers desktop a couple years ago when he tried moving his computer to a different office. Although it obviously didn't crash when he was moving it since it wasn't hooked up, but when he rebooted it crashed a couple times. Came down to a loose power connection on the mobo.
