Could someone please help me out here:

On the topic of plugging and unplugging the power adapter causing crashes, is there anyone else whose system will crash from this under Dell drivers? From everything I've read Dell drivers are supposed to be the ones that work.
My system initially couldn't boot under battery power, it would get to the point of seeing the little orbs about to form the windows logo and shut off. A reinstall of windows fixed that issue, and before I installed any drivers I could plug and unplug the adapter without crashing but with Dell drivers mine crashes. -
I was looking at mobile video cards and there rankings today and found that the ATI 4870 has moved up. Is this due to new drivers? It was like 15th down the from the top card. Now it is like number 10. The benchmarks have even changed. Maybe my memory is going. Anyhow this is where I get my info..... http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-4870.13974.0.html

OMG you would let a m17x slip by for a trip to hawai. You will meet girls and your life will be over. its going to be horrible

Honestly if it came to a choice of getting rid of the RGB LED screen or the Crossfire cards due to an incompatibility I'd get rid of the CF. That screen is extremely good, and something that a lot of people hoped would end up in the R2 (and it did). That screen is what you have to look at day in and day out. I'd take 280 sli in a heartbeat if that's what it took to keep that screen.
-
-
There is no compatibility or hardware issues with the RGB LED! These b.s. rumor mongering posts need to stop. Just because some underpaid CSR tells you guys in Europe this doesn't make it true--it's just b.s. to get you to shut up.
P.S. Comparison shots of the RGB LED vs Dell Studio XPS 16 (AUO 15.6" WLED) coming soon.
-
-
Believe what you want, I don't care. The facts are it's a bios issue and nothing more. -
Kampin you are just trolling at this point. There are obviously no issues with RGBLED compatibility since nobody on this forum has ever mentioned actually having any issues. Of course maybe it is some huge conspiracy that M17x r2 owners have going
-
Can you confirm joker if this new Bios fix the system freeze on unplugging the PSU or going to Sleep mode ?? Or is that a whole other issue ?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
heard that is an ATI driver issue, try the new 10.3s
-
Mine doesn't freeze when I unplug the AC adapter. I think it's driver specific like scook mentioned. I'm using the 10.3 beta's right now. -
Great, I already downloaded the 10.3, but didnt tested unplugging / sleep mode cuz I didnt know it was the issue.. It is now tested and working !! Thx Scook9

Another question now...
My Wireless connections are really bad.... I have the 6300 wifi-card, but my connection are very unstable... it fluctuates from 20k to 1.1m in a mater of seconds most of the time.... is there a better driver out there for it ? -
Edit: Damn you guys are fast... or I am too slow typing.
Edit 2: Lol. Nevermind. I just noticed I was using an old cache of this thread... -
Maybe it's a configuration setting or something on your card or network? -

I wish I could get that RGB screen....looking like the only way I will see it is if I get an R2 which will only happen if Dell replaces my R1 with an R2
Can't afford to shuffle laptops around like some people here do -
Neither can I, its crazy how people shuttle so much on machines.
-
But I try. Hvaen't lost any money on a laptop buy or sell since my M17
.
Right now i am stuck deciding between the x8100 or 8760.
Just keep reminding yourself of July -

Hi All,
What graphic drivers are everyone using, all my games work but on the Crysis games from the the Crysis logo i get bold lines across the video then they go away and do not return, i was wondering if this could be because they are Steam versions?
Everything else seems to be working, but has anyone notice the the mouse/pointer movement is extremely slow even after options are amended? -
I'm using 10.3 and Steam versions of Crysis, WH, and Wars. All look fine here, including the logo. No issues to report.

I know many won't like this question but what's the possibility of installing XP on M17x-R2? Impossible to find the drivers?
Thank you -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
It is finicky on the R1. I would expect the same for the R2

Xp still has it's uses. For example many benches prefer it -
and mud tires, dual carbs, dual exhaust, fiber glass body, roll cage, roll clutch, performance tranny.....etc -

For the swamps moo?
-
Yep, XP still has it's uses and moreover, it's a requirement for my work. I would still like to enjoy the RGB LED screen and ATI graphics. There must be a way to combine these two....hopefully?
Yep, I have seen many bugs with Porche engine!

I have not gotten the ati drivers to work with crossfire but everything else works in xp pro 64 bit for my r1
-
I can put my services out for the highest bidder to write a driver
-
That's not a problem as I won't be getting the crossfire setup. I got XP 64 as well. Where did you find the drivers?
Thank you -

I was mob modding ati desktop 9.12 drivers. Waiting to see if the xp 10.3 s will work on their own. Fingers crossed for that

I did a search and couldn't find any answers. Has anyone tried playing FSX with the r2? I worry that my 720qm won't be able to push good fps.
-
-
The reason I wonder is that since FSX is very cpu-bound, the 720qm will not have the horsepower to push good fps. The coding for the game is like a frankenstein update of FS9 and there was little optimization done. I hear the service packs helped with multi-core performance, but performance was much better in dual core vs quad core.
My old dell e1405 ran FS9 in medium-high settings with smooth fps and I attribute most of that performance to the T2500 cpu, not the integrated Intel GMA 950. -
-
damn i have been trying to get a hold of dell forever today so i can get my screen replacement correction and i have just been on hold on and off today very irrating and i have complete care.
-
can you guys take pictures of your setup? So i have somthing to drool over cuz it sucks sitting here waiting to hit testing/boxing/shipping.
-
64-bit XP was one of the worst pieces of trash OS ever. Although, the title for THE worst still belongs to Windows ME
I couldn't get any driver's for half my stuff to work. Terrible.
I would say just use a VM for XP if you just need app functionality.
