Anyone here play Just Cause 2 yet? I have run the benchmark on MAX settings and only get 16fps on the dark tower bench. Kinda disappointing. Should I chalk this up as an official Nvidia game?
-
I'd wait till the hotfix updates before rushing to any conclusions. The game's too fresh.
-
Max settings in CrossFire mode or max settings with one card?
-
My m1730 fried about a month ago and im waiting on a system replacement which im told will most likely be an m17x, and could be getting an R2 due to the fact that my m1730 had a 1920x1200 screen and the R1 does not. Just wanted to get my name in the m17x forums and ask what this computer is like. Im thinking it will be worth the wait.
Cheers,
D_Sage -
M17X-R1 does have a 1920X1200 screen. It doesn't have the RGB LED but they could (theoretically) put it into R1s, so no difference would be there.
But of course, if you could win the more future proof system (R2) - would be perfect.
The system is great, performance and build quality is on top, hands down.
You won't regret 100%.
-
Yea im sure they could put what ever they want on the R1 but when customizing on the site there is no option for 1920x1200 when you customize with the duo which is what i believe to be the R1, also my x9000 penryn is better then most of the procs in r1 so im really hoping i will get bumped up to the R2, and i wont be buying a new computer for a little while longer. From what ive seen im really excited to get my hands on an m17x and try it out.
-
I've tried on both ways. Xfire as well as single. Very little improvement.
-
Is xfire supported in alot of games? i remember with SLI alot of games just didnt benefit from it at all, ive heard nvidia is better at mobile cards but ive always heard xfire is better then SLI anyone have any comparative experience?
-
Crossfire in the R2 is actually very effective. Comparing to my previous M1730 with 9800GTX SLI where i saw maybe 10-15% improvement with most games, with the 4870s i can see at least 30% improvement in most games. Sure some games do not scale as good, but the majority does.
-
The game will run just fine when the CF hotfixes get updated.
-
on a side note, this grey usernames joke is pretty annoying
-
Grey? Mines black
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I have seen black grey and orange so far lol
and others had purple -
-
I don't even see names there lol
-
I think its an April Fools Joke TBO... It will prolly be back to normal tomorrow.
Kinda like easter eggs with all the diff colors ect. -
yeah, that's the problem
agreed -
Sigh sitting in traffic in Georgia. Sucks not being able to use my m17x.
-
where can one download the evga eleet tuning utility? the main website seems to require a evga motherboard
-
The light flashes on the port. And on my modem when I boot my laptop it tries to connect to the net but then doesn't so it has to be something with the laptop..is all else fails I'll Call the dell support thing that they gave me..say my laptops been having a few bsod's and won't update its driver. They might come fix it I don't know. Okay I checked in device manager....even though I Installed the Ethernet card..TWICE it isn't appearing on device manager...I guess I can try to install again (Microsoft installed its driver D'x That's probably causing the crap D'x)
Edit: Not even the CHIPSET Installed...I installed that first...wth
Edit2: I tried to instal the chipset and ethernet..they won't install they just come up as "Unknown devices" even uninstalled and so on.I'll probably call dell..See what they say -
ZenithNoesis
I uploaded eleet 4 you .

Very good find.
Thank you much.
+rep. -
Thats good to hear, just have to hope i get the r2 model as a replacement so i can try those 4870's out.
-
Sooo coming full circle, 620m or 720qm for architectural and graphical models/programs?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
If the program is multithreaded (most are) definitely get the 720qm -
I have a quick question. I was looking at the amd site for info on the 5870s but couldn't find much but what I did notice is that according to amd that the 4870 with gddr3 only has 512mb while the 4870 with gddr5 has 1gb, I guess is what I would like to know is the cards that we all have just older or were they made specifically for AW?
-
Damn you dudes get out of topic a lot here its awesome, the only gddr5 4870's were the ones for Asus, the W90. There was never a 1 gig Gddr5 only ddr3.
-
*Sigh* Still can't get my ethernet connection to work..still can't use 10.3 drivers I've fully formated the laptop 3 times and nothing has changed I have a Unknown chipset driver (Even though it has its installed in another part of device manager) So now I have to go call Dell and ask them for a reason why.
-
So you are saying that the AMD site is a typo or that our cards are older ones or are made specifically for all other brands exept for asus?
-
So, yesterday afternoon, Dell tech shows up after I had called em 2 days ago. Pops in 2 new vid cards and a new crossover cable.....
Not a bit of flickering anywhere
woot...I am a happy camper.
TBH after dealing with other companies, I am pleasently supprised. cant beat at home service.
On a different note, anyone have any idea if/when a BIOS that supports VT will be released ? -
Jo,
just registered to get part of the alienware communnity
be gentle if my english isn't that good as beeing a duchtman from amsterdam
so here's my story.
till this week i was a owner of an working smokey grey XPS M1730 with 2.4 ghz, 4 gigs ram, sli 8700 M GT (1900/1200) and a 80gb intel ssd as boot and 500 gb as data drive. (was dual 160 gb raid 0)
past monday the laptop got fried, black smoke, burned plastic, even my table got scorched and whole thing died on me.
happy to say the harddrives survived and still work
think the xps took the smokey grey part a little too serious..
after few calls to dell tech netherlands they offerd me to replace the M1730 with an new M17X-R2!
at first the offerd a stock M17x-R2 with 1440x900 resolution and one 4870 card.
this was not acceptable cause i have 2 cards now and higer resolution.
eventually after some more calls i had to choose, either 1440x900 and dual 4870 card. of vice versa 1920/1200 and 1 card.
well i chose the 2 cards, more future proof. and the resolution i can live with.
the whole system it self is already a complete big upgrade.
this is what i'll get now:
Alienware M17x-gamelaptop - Lunar Silver
Intel® Core™ i5 Processor 520M (2,40 GHz, 3 MB cache) 2,93 GHZ in turbomode.
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
1 jaar Premium Support
17-inch WXGA Dual CCFL (1440x900)
4.096 MB 1.333 MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [2 x 2.048]
320 GB (7.200 rpm) harde schijf met Free Fall-sensor, Raid 0 "stripe"
8X DVD+/- RW Optical Drive (DVD & CD read and write)
Dual 1 GB ATI® RADEON™ HD 4870 grafische kaart
sweet deal might i say, huge improvement with my fried m1730.
pop in the ssd and 500gb drive and got my self a nice free upgrade.
altough the xps m1730 was like 7 months old, kinda sad that it died. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
The Asus W90 was 512MB GDDR3 actually. That was A BIG deal and made alot of people angry (expecting GDDR5). The AW M17x also had the same fiasco when the 4870s were released due to it also being GDDR3. Leaks from engineering prerelease were actually GDDR5 but Dell went with GDDR3 for the final product. Further adding to the confusion and dissapointment.
So if you need a desktop comparison point....the 4870s in the AW M17x are desktop 4850s. And the 5870 in the Asus and Clevo are really like a desktop 5770 -
Welcome.
Nice upgrade, but the 1440x900 is not RGB nor is it a WUXGA. The RGB is the 1920x1200 (wugxa). -
Wish this was the case for me. I only got one Crossfire card replaced and the flickering still occurs.
Today a new mobo will be installed in hopes of fixing the issue. Maybe the Primary card is the one with the problem? Who knows. -
your right
17-inch WXGA Dual CCFL
correction. -
Oh that's too bad. I was thinking they made a mistake and gave you the other screen anyway. Well, it is still a nice system. Enjoy.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Well that changes everything!
That was the only thing I would have been un happy about, but if you at least got wuxga you are golden man. Congrats on the upgrade!
EDIT: nvm just saw was wxga and not wuxga, still a great system though haha, and an external monitor wont care what the attached resolution is
-
yeah i'm happy with the new M17X-R2. it's in the ordering process now.
too bad i'm not getting a new table too but the insurance will cover that part
-
Hi
the 1440x900 is not RGB but a Dual CCFL if i was you i would personally pay the extra 235 Euros and upgrade the screen to the 1920x 1200 RGB out of my own pocket i think you will regret it in the long run.If down the line you were to purchase 1920x1200 RGB on ebay for example would cost currently 1000 us dollars.Anyway nice 1 on your new machine its a massive upgrade from the 1730
-
i only had 2 options, either 1440x900 and dual cards or the other screen and 1 card. asked if i could pay up the extra money for the screen but they would not allow it because it was a safety capture.
so i rather get the dual cards then the screen. i'll probably end up with an external screen anyway. so no biggie
-
Your new R-2 will be a awesome upgrade to what you had 4 sure.
-
Yea when I talked to them on the phone, they wanted to replace only one....so I persisted by asking which one, and if they were sure that one had the issue. I then went on to state the only way to be SURE was to replace both and the crossfire cable....
Took talking to 2 reps and then a manager, but got it done in the end. -
So I finally had the chance to install my Intel X-25M V2 drive last night. My Windows rating (which doesn't mean much, I know) went down to 5.9 for Data Transfer Rate! This is after a fresh OS install. Is that normal?
What's a good benchmark tool to use and where SHOULD my read/write numbers be?
Thanks guys. This SSD is new to me
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
5.9 in vista is as high as it goes, in windows 7 you should have a 7.8 or 7.9
-
my X-25m postville was 7.7 in windows 7 pro x64.. before my m1730 poofed.
use either crystal disk mark or atto to bench ssd. -
I'm on a fresh install of Windows 7. Only 5.9. I figured I should be in the 7's.
Anything else I'm forgetting here. I believe Joker said to install the intel Raid driver to get better performance.....?
This is a brand new X-25M V2 drive....! -
DO you have the nvidia controller software installed? If so, remove it. It caused low readings for me too. What are the speeds in crystalmark
-
you need to delete the windows 7 rating cache, had same problem. after cleaning the rating cache it went to 7.7.
let me see if i can find that guide for you
and do not touch the drivers at all, always stay on stock windows ahci driver unless you run ssd in raid..
also disable windows search, indexing and so on. tweak windows 7 for ssd to get most out of it.
and most important disable system restore on your ssd. saves lots of writes and hdd space.
if you enough ram 4gb+ reduce pagefile to 500mb or disable.
edit:
To resolve this issue after you change the computer's hardware configuration, follow these steps:
1. Click Start
Collapse this imageExpand this image
Start button
, type the following path in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER:
%SYSTEMROOT%\Performance\WinSat\DataStore
2. Delete all the .xml files in the folder.
re-run the test and should go to 7 ish score.

is for vista but same problems will be solved on 7. -
Welcome, another Dutchy in our midst! Fine rig you got from Dell! Nice smoke joke LOL!
-
Heyas. I'm in a similar situation, but I dont think you fought with Dell enough. My M1730 had 8800m gtx in SLI, and 1920X1200. My CPU was the T9300. By telling them my CPU had 6mb cache, I managed to get the M17x upgraded to the i7 720. Unless your video cards were 8700s, there's no way they can refuse to give you 2 4870s. And Resolution wise its pretty straightforward, they have to match the old resolution, so I'm getting the RGBLED 1920X1200.
I'd call em back and fight a bit more for these things if I were you.
Also, if you had a bluray in the 1730, you can get one in the m17x.
And if I read right you had one of the extreme processors? You can definitely get an i7 for that
