I also have a seagate momentus and I am getting the exact same readings from that program. While AW may have sent a new drive I highly doubt 2 similar drives would be failing the exact same way. It is probably just something inherent with the drives.

yeah, but how can it be that one drive's status is ok and the other one's not if they are identical and your theory is right both of them would've shown the same errors.

Is the 820qm a significant upgrade over the 620m?

You are the only one who can answer this as far as the cpu is concerned .Do you multitask,Encode video,Photoshop etc etc.The warranty is gold IMHO well worth the cash. ;) Oh & down the line if you need to change cpu its like a 20 min job to swap the proc .

Well I hope to use this thing for the next two years, and then for most of college. Upgrading in the future is always an option. I'm majoring in architecture but I don't have a complete understanding of what programs i will be using. I know a few of course but in two years i'm sure either the price of processors will have gone down or some new cpu framework will be out

Don't forget that the 620 has integrated graphics, which the 820 doesn't (I think). That might be something to consider in your choice as well.

That's definitely a shame. The choice would have been very obvious otherwise. For the rest I think the 620 is a great processor, unless you need a quad core of course. It's a shame that when ordering mine the only options at Dell Panama were i7 720, 820 and 920. No 620 and no i3 or i5. I would have definitely chosen the 620.

I have used my M17X-r2 now for a few weeks and never even noticed the fan come on but their was no heavy use, just moving my stuff from old laptop to new and installing programs. Yesterday while moving it to put it down it made a funny noise like a screeching sound for about 10 seconds, now I notice the fan comes on an off every few minutes even while sitting idle. Any ideas or is this normal

Install hwinfo32 and monitor your temps. They should not be above 45 degrees idle/surfing the net. If that the temps are higher you've gt the reason for the fans kicking in. As for the noise you mentioned, it's hard to say and I doubt it's related.

When I first got my M17x-r2 I was amazed at how fast the boot time was about 15 seconds after installing all my programs it really slowed down to about 45 seconds. everything I added put a start-up in my system. I went into run with MSCONFIG unchecked everything not needed for boot and it went back to quick boot. I also noticed if I booted with my internet cable plugged in instead of wireless it added about 15 seconds. The other thing I noticed was my first M17x-r2 when their forgot to raid my 2 SSD drives it booted even faster now on start-up it stops at the raid screen for a few seconds. Anyone else notice anything like any of this

Raid 0 doesn't work with TRIM, so RAID is actually causing your SSD drives to be slower. In essence it's not letting the SSD drives write and rewrite as efficiently or properly.

Trim will slow my drives after extended use this unit is new I noticed with raid on boot it stops at the raid screen for a few seconds that is the diffidence now about 3 seconds. The slowdown was all the programs getting into my startup, after I unchecked them boot is back to about 15 seconds pretty fast but 3 second slower than without raid. Even when my drives slow down in the future I don't think it will effect my boot time. it is the write that slows. I am hoping by then they will have a fix.

I'll try to install 10.5 on top of my 10.3 release drivers and see if it works on my end. If not then I'll clean out the drivers and install 10.5 fresh.

So I just finished talking to Customer Service and asked them about my Razer Mamba mouse. On the Dell.com site and over the phone (automated order status) I get a message saying that the order is still "processing" and there is a delivery date of 04/07/10. When directly asked about when my order would ship, I got an explanation of how the approval process takes 24 hours before getting approved and reaching the "shipped" state. My order was placed last week Thursday. Didn't they bother to approve it by Friday? Fine, how about Monday?

Regardless, I am pretty much sure my order will not go through now and am going to get a delay email message at the last minute.

I guess as long as I get the order by Thurs/Friday I won't mind too much, but this is definitely weird behavior from Dell.
