Hey guys question about laptop cooling here I have the m17x and just bought an antec notebook cooler 200 it looks like the cooler blows air down sucking out from the bottom of the laptop. My question is does the m17x suck in air from the bottom or blow air out?
-
-
Ugh I hate how these stupid coolers don't list fan direction.
-
-
Switch it on feel the flow
-
Weird I tried it out in my car when I picked it up and it felt like air was going down away from the top maybe I'll test it at home first.
-
-
I must be unless mine is messed

I just received Jubbing's M17x-R2 today and while I was putting in his 940xm, I took a shot of the new revised motherboard that doesn't have the CCFL connector like the old R2's: New M17x-R2 board without the CCFL connector.
So I'm guessing the newer CCFL based ones may not have the RGB LED connector on them either. Either that or they switched both panels to use the same connector which seems most likely. -
Wow that's a completely new connectors from what i remember, so joker i hope you are getting paid for that, we college students need to make as much as we can!
-
Yeoooooowch!!!!
These things really are edge to edge glass! I was opening mine and i guess i applied pressure incorrectly and now I have a nasty deep slice in my thumb.
 -
So using the Antec Notebook Cooler 200, I noticed maybe a 3degree drop during CPU testing. And GPU testing showed no benefit whatsoever.

So after getting some advice from folks here about the issue that I was having with COD World at War (namely extremely laggy response) I disabled Crossfire the other night. The computer promptly crashed. Ever since my alien head power button only lights orange, despite multiple restarts and a few full power drains. Now the good news is that COD runs great with xfire off, the bad news, the computer has been horribly unstable. It routinely locks up after sleeping, won't display the login screen and even if it does manage to log me in at the black screen it goes to a 'desktop' with no icons that is completely unresponsive; no start menu, can't shut down, have to hold down the power button for 5 seconds and hard shut down.
I just re-enabled crossfire and I'm hoping that updating the game itself will improve performance and that the computer will go back to being stable.
I did check with Dell and I'm running the "latest" drivers that are on the support site. Should I upgrade directly via ATI or hold off? -
thanks alot for telling me what i need, now just gotta order it and my gaming career will take off from having this old inspiron 8600

guys can you properly set the touch buttons to white with the new command center?

So I bit the bullet and bought myself a Razer Mamba. Anyone use one of these? How has your experience with it been along with your M17x.
-
Mamba is awesome! best mouse i owned so far. there should be a review of it here, but i think that you won't need a review once you get it.
One thing you should do is to get a good pad for it. -
I got similar results with my cryo lx, about a 5-8 degree drop in temps for my cpu and like a 1 degree drop for my gpu. Currently in the process of replacing the fans with something stronger.
-
-
Razer Imperator is a very good mouse as well, IMHO.

What are all these gaming mice good for?..
I use a logitech mini-optical, which is a compact laser mouse,
and I see no problems with playing games with it..
Do these special mice really serve a specific purpose?..
I'm not being rude in any way, I honestly don't know and I want to be enlightened. -
The difference is felt the most when gaming becomes very important (ex. FPS clan wars) when every few pixels and the swiftness of the sensitivity switch on the fly directly means - victory or defeat. I had quite a few frustrating moments in such games when playing on an inferior system/average quality mouse/poor I-net connection/etc.
But for a single player gaming with no money at stake - screw it
It's just that without a true gaming mouse the entire AW set feels somewhat cheap. -
It's not the car, it's the driver
While i do own a mamba, i was given it for free by dell, and i would never consider paying 130$ for a mouse.. I agree that a logitech laser mouse does the job 99.9% of the time -
But you're right, Bro. I'm getting lazy and all. This might change if OnLive is successful. Than we can play Crysis on netbooks using touchpads, hehe.
-
A mouse can make a big difference. I had a crappy non-laser mouse and my shots weren't accurate at all in FPS games. Soon as I got my logitech performance MX, my accuracy went right back up. The only thing I'd change about this mouse is it's weight, it's too heavy. I liked how the mamba is so light and it's shape is perfect. It's a shame about it's bulky receiver. In fact, I may go buy another mamba now and use it exclusively for when I'm on the desk and then use my logitech when I'm chilling on the sofa.

So, I was looking around to see what I could do to improve drive access/read/write times and short of a SSD (I know I want but cant justify that kind of cash for a 256GB drive) and I came accross this review of a drive I was looking at:
Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500GB Notebook Hard Drive - Seagate Momentus 7200.4 Hard Drives - Legit Reviews , if you look at that on page 6 of the review is the CrystalDiskMark v2.2 benchmarks, I ran those exact tests and my scores are in the screenies below.
The drives I have are shown in the screenie, mine are 320GB, 7200 RPM and the rewiewed drives is a 500GB 7200, but what strikes me is the almost 30% increase in read/write speed, along with the space increase.
Like I said, short of a SSD, which, I cant justify, this looks klike the best option, since I can get the drive for a litle over $80.00 each....

@ Wwoods,
Go for Momentus XT. That's the closest you can get to the SSD performance for just a bit extra over the regular HDD's. -
-
More or less. The speed is very close to that of an SSD in booting and frequently used apps.
Plus, a good storage capacity and if you will, improve this further by making a RAID config. -
WOW...no one has these in stock that I can find, everyone is 2weeks or so back ordered. -
I might get those if Intel delays their G3 beasts further.
