Hell, I dont even use the functionaity of Command Center, just saying for those who do a new one is out

 

Well I'd be interested to know if there's anything new to it. A05 ran fine for me, and A06 was exactly the same.. so A07 better bring something new (and better).

Ah it's good to be on my M17x again.

 

my tech told me i will not be able to track my replacement order online like normal since it's different from a normal order. but i will be able to call them and check status from them. He told me actually i do not have to check, it will take 15-20days to build a new one. Wondering if it is a normal replacement progress, cos this is my first time.

And if they sand me a refub one which some members here mentioned it is possible even my current is 10 days old only, will i be able to ask for another "new" replacement or fully refund?

i'm in AU and guess i may be contacted next Monday as earliest

 

take refund.... contact a sales guy, tell him situation, he wil pull up order, and process it. once u get funds, phone him and give him the go ahead to do order, thats what im doing atm m8

 

here is little complicate. my order suppose to be 2850+free keyboard, but they have to do it like 2620+130(keyboard) which means if i ask for refund i will only get 2620 back. if i want full back i gona need to return keyboard as well. Problem is i've suffer enough dealing with refund here in AU, they even owe me A$130 for another keyboard refund which i've canceled 8 weeks ago, man.

That's why i prefer not to going through refund as possible.

 

im having some issues installing the new 10.6 drivers. it wouldnt recognise my cards on clean install and wouldnt install the drivers even if i try to install them over the dell 5870/4870 drivers..

is it not meant to be for our systems or did i do something wrong.

i did uninstall my previous drivers and run ccleaner+driver sweeper before trying to install

 

Wasn't working for me either. What I did was uninstall previous driver, let windows install it's default one. Then I modified the parameter WorkaroundInstall to true in the config file. Next I ran the installation, chose custom and verified it is indeed installing CCC and a new driver for the video card. Hope that helps.
Oh and if you plan on using the hdmi port you have to install a driver for it manually (google ati hdmi driver)

 

make sure your trying to install "MOBILITY "drivers and not just the 10.6 drivers. i made this mistake and didn't even know it. but just uninstall your drivers from the card then reboot run driver sweeper & ccleaner, then reboot, then install the drivers and you should be good to go

 

So i got a new problem happening.
My brightness controls (Fn+F4/F5) stop working and the only way to get it back to work is to restart.
Rest of FN+XX combinations are working just fine, just the brightness doesn't.
I tried a power drain, to see if helps - it doesn't.
I am still investigating what's causing it but i haven't been able to pinpoint the cause.
Now when i think about it - it might be after i connect my TV via HDMI and then disconnect it (Sure it can't control my TV's brightness so it makes sense to disable that function with an external monitor) - going to verify it.

Any ideas ?

 

I just installed 10.6 They work fine in Dirt 2 and Furmark right now. I got a black screen lockup in bad company 2 but I just applied the profile fix so I'm going to see if it still does that.

Edit: Bad company 2 works fine as well.

Most likely - the latest ATI drivers.
I had the same with Nvidia drivers back when had 280M's. Also got this problem in Linux.
But I don't have it with 4870's + 10.3 or 10.4.

 

Hmm, now i am trying to remember but i am quite sure it was happening before i updated to 10.6 yesterday.
Do you have something to connect via HDMI to confirm brightness controls work after you disconnect it ?

EDIT: not sure if it's important, but the OSD does not display the icon either when i try to change brightness. It does display it for the rest of the functions.

 

So you where able to install 10.6 on a M17X R2? I thought we could not do that yet?

Yeah I was but bad company 2 won't run. I got it to run once and after that it locks up the system now.

Edit: Games only work in windowed mode. When I go full screen the computer locks. So I guess 10.6 is a bust although close to working. If someone can figure out how to get these applications to work in full screen then we're set.

 

so if i understand right 10.6 drivers can be installed on a CF 5870s system?

So i finaly got my new m17x r2 as of my r1 was to many problems. Recived it yesterday and first boot take around 2 hours. Didnt understand why but when i was going to type computors name and region it stoped respond then it started to work again? When everything finaly was finnished i saw the message: graphic driver stoped responding..... And this is a new system!! So i uninstalled driver, safe mode, sweeper and cleener... Installed whith the driver from dells site. It was the same driver number and same problem. But i managed to get a vantage run 12556p gpu score. So cf is working. 3 dmark 06 i only got 11450p. I think thats around normal because it seems like 06 doesnt like the 5870. I also notised dust behind the led screen, a scratch on the top and bottom of the plast around the keyboard.. I havnt reinstalled the system yet because it messed some programs up on My r1. So what to do, anybody else with simular problem or fix. Ive got dirt 2, bad c 2 to run in dx11(i think). Dirt 2 (max everyting) around 40 fps. And then driver stop responding message!! Hopefully its just a driver problem, but why??? Ive reinstalled i the why you should do it. So, anyone??

 

you might have faulty video cards.
are those 5780 or 4870 ?
If you have dust behind the screen contact Dell support, they should replace it, same with the scratched parts.

 

Its 5870 cf, 720 CPU, 6gig 1333 memory

 

Just contact Dell. They will help you out.

Hey maybe someone knows why this is happening.

When hooked up to an external monitor by HDMI I get really low FPS when crossfire is enabled. But when its disabled the games run just fine (this only happens with Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Split Second). when not connected to a display everything runs fine.

Anyone know the reason?

 

Over 100 days ago I was offered a replacement for my broken xps m1730. Keep in mind I did not ask for it, I was offered one. I was told it would take 3-4 weeks to get the replacement. Over 6 weeks later I received the replacement, an Alienware M17x. That computer worked for about a week and then started getting BSODs. The bbcode was 124 which indicates a hardware problem. After multiple tech visits and hours on the phone with alienware support another replacement was offered. The problem now is they want to downgrade part of my system. The dell rep I've been speaking to just keeps telling me it's not a downgrade because it is still equal to my original system specs. The part in question is a bluray burner. My M1730 had a bluray rom. The first replacement has a blueray burner and now the second replacement they want to send to me has a bluray rom. Why does dell think it's OK to now downgrade my current system. In order for me to keep the current configuration I have to send the laptop to the depot for repair. After reading posts on this forum I am terrified to do this. In the past 4 months I have never received the next business day service I paid for, and now they are making me send my computer to them even though I paid for in home service. The rep has been very rude to me this entire time and even yelled at me for trying to do an OS install my self. This has been the worst customer care I have ever experienced. I would appreciate any advice that can be given.

 

Have you tried yelling at your computer? It's therapeutic and sometimes it starts working.

Since they told you that the bluray burner you currently have is equal to bluray rom they want to send you, ask them "if I simply switch them and send you back the system with the bluray rom would you mind?"
According to them it's equal so they shouldn't...

124 error usually is an indicator that you have too much or not enough cpu voltage for an OC.....maybe your motherboard is just bad?

and were you getting that error at stock speeds? have you ran memtest to check the memory?

@stamatisx I asked her if I could do that and she told me it was against the law and if I did I would have to deal with dells legal department. This person is a complete ____. She yelled at me for trying to reinstall the OS. I don't know what I did to these people off.

@scook9 The motherboard and memory have been replaced. I can't OC the cpu I only have the I5-540M.

Was trying a demo of a new game Sniper Ghost Warrior after exiting the game looked @ temps . Obviously a glitch but caught my attention quick.

Nah, those readings are incorrect. Do you have the latest version of the program? I'd re-install it for starters.

 

mjon13 they only have to meet or better the spec's of the first system. Not any replacements. If you now asked for a refund you would not expect the value of the replacement would you? Only the value of the first one, probable why they are getting touchy.

 

replacements cannot be returned at least in Europe. 200 C? if it was right it would have been burnt before you notice it.

 

The question I told you to ask was hypothetical and to prove them that a burner and a simple reader are not the same like they were telling you. Not that you would perform something like that It will first of all void your warranty, only an authorized technician can perform something like that

She has no right though to yell at you no matter what, especially for formatting the disk. I have done it so many times that I have lost track, but nobody ever dared to make the slightest hint about it, you should consider changing rep.

hey guys I'm looking at purchasing an mx17 and I'd like to know what would be the best "guts" i should get. I've read a lot of reviews about it and just wondering what should i get for the most stable mx17 that would play wow, bf2142, cod etc etc on high definitions. I'm not a complete computer wiz, i can fix general problems but that's about it. Also money is not an issue.

 

4gb RAM should be enough for most people, 1920x1200 RGB LED (This upgrade is worth it, screen is gorgeous!), and Crossfire 5870's. CPU whatever you feel you can get the best for your spending limit, same with the HD options. But I would try and get at least the 1 yr advanced warranty.

Forgot to add the Intel wireless card, if you plan to be hooked to the net by Wi-Fi.

 

I agree with Philthy. If you want the best experience I would make sure to get the 1920x1200 RGB LED screen and Crossfire 5870's. The rest is not as important and can be upgraded later on.

 

I have exactly the same issue (driver stop responding) and i did all what u have done as well i start to think it might be only 720+5870CF user? cos my 820 920 friends do not have that issue. i asked for a full unit replacement already. but since u have the same problem i think maybe i should ask for a refund and keep far away from AW.

I think they are.

 

I thought about getting the dual 5870's when they became avaliable as a spare, but TBH, cant seem to come to a good reason to justify the expense.
