It's a bit confusing, but the profiles in that menu are different to the application profiles that you download and install. The app profiles are invisible, and just work. The profiles in that menu are combinations of CCC settings, so you can switch between different setting sets easily.

first time heard of ati xf application profile.anyone can help me clear about it?isn't it include in the driver. i use dell's driver for my 5870cf. will that profile improve performance over that? is that mean from now on,we have to install driver+this profile to be able to achieve best gaming performance?

Hi all, I just ordered an M17x-R2 and I was wondering what are some initial things I should do (specifically drivers)? Which are the latest and most stable drivers for a single 5870? I plan to upgrade later but for now I'll be on a single and seeing as most people have xf 5870 or 4870s, I was wondering if I might have to use different drivers to reach its potential. Also if it matters, I've configured it with a 720QM as well.
Of course anything else I should modify on arrival, I will consider. -

anyone getting blotchy youtube playback?
It only seems to happen on low res videos, like this one. Others @ 480/720/HD work flawlessly. I tried disabling HW acceleration to no avail.

I just received my R2 today with 5870CF. Why am I getting only 6 points for Windows Experience Index?

Not true. The current draw thing could have considerable benching and overclocking implications
But also good for 940xm owners
No BIOS loving for us R1 people though -
sorry, overclockers aside

Hi guys, another issue since i receive my replacement. when the fan is at low speed as i am doing light tasks like browsing or word. i can hear unusual noise (like light click sound) from the second GPU fan. it is not loud but annoying. when i do gaming or something else which i believe the fan is at high speed, i can not hear it.
anyone experience it before. i've heard that it's a GPU fan issue. i wonder if i do not change the fan, will it affect my laptop. if only about the click sound, i am not plan to ask for a fan replacement. -

I wonder what it could be? Happens to me 50% of the time. -

When I load regular dvds in my laptop it doesn't play them. It will only play copied dvds. Is there a fix for this problem?
-
This sounds like your DVD region is locked
-
-
I have no idea, never happened to me, google probably will give you the answer
BTW, did you confirm that it is locked to a specific region? -
-
-
Something seems really wrong here, copying from my dvd player, just normal files it seems really slow....any ideas for me where to start ?

Tip for those with an SSD like me that only want certain Steam games running on the SSD itself with the others on a secondary larger traditional HDD: Steam Users' Forums - View Single Post - Tutorial: move single Steam games to other partitions/drives
I've successfully moved a few of my games over to the HDD that don't depend on fast loading times (e.g. Trine, Mass Effect 2) vs ones where I would want a fast load time (e.g. Bad Company 2, L4D2). Should be useful for some of you. The M17x Wiki has also been updated with that information: http://alienwarem17x.wikia.com/wiki/Common_issues_&_resolution -

Looking forward to reading through the myriad of posts here and hoping to help out as much as I can =D
P.S. I cant figure out how to put a signature in my posts, its not in the User CP... -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
In User CP, top selection in left column - "Edit Signature." Easy to overlook.

Yo rev, how's the 920xm? Did you bring it back to life? -
Just ordered mine on Saturday, and it's my first really good gaming machine.
Intel Core i7 920XM 2.0GHz
8GB Dual Channel DDR3 @ 1333Mhz

I think the anticipation might just kill me! How long did it take from production to delivery for you guys? -
Going to be a though wait hey ?
Try to stay alive till there ! -
You can ask Dell to expedite your order. They shipped mine out to me last month after waiting a week. It arrived 10 days from when I ordered.
On a side note - this is my first post on the forums after reading this site for years! Just got my first Alienware as well. It's an epic piece of kit. -
What a surprise!
I received a new system today as replacement for the faulty one (CF problems) that AW engineers want to have a look at.
The new one is really a brand new machine with some upgrades over my current beast (they put in more RAM, also 1333mhz instead of 1066 that I had).
I checked the new laptop and it works great, no CF problems and the temps are even lower than on mine (and I replaced the CPU paste on the old machine). During Crysis the CPU peaked at 60C and both GPU's @77C on MEM. GPU-Z showed max 70C and 75C but that's the effective max probably.
Anyway, I will keep the system intact for now, as am not sure if I'd like to keep it. Will compare it to the HP 8740w that should ship any day now and will sell the one that is less needed. I'd keep them all but only need one system that can fit both my gaming and working requirements. -

I have to second that, my new system replacement arrived on the 9th and in crysis my max gpu temps were a constant 74C while my cpu temps were hovering 62C. This is running stock with AO5 bios BTW, however the only thing I noticed about running crysis on the R2 was that the advanced graphics settings did not offer no more than 8x aa which is strange because my R1 offered 8xQ, 16x, and 16xQ which I was able to run any of these flawlesslyI did in-fact download the latest patch and hotfix but they are still mia on my R2? How is the HP 8740w performance wise? If I'm not mistaken the 8740w does not offer XF correct? Congrats on your new replacement!!
-
i take its a cf 5870 setup akimox?
-
Even a single 4870 can easily handle all the games I play, so no rush here. I'd even stay with R1 but was tempted with RGB LED.
I'll check the game's settings later on.
The 8740w is about to ship from China so dunno yet, but the first owners
report the same performance as with M17x-R2 with a single 5870.
Basically, their M7820 is the MR5870 so there shouldn't be a difference anyway. But I'm more interested in build quality, screen and cooling comparison. Will see in a few. -
Hi everybody,
I'm about to get an AW. Could you please give me some advice about the configuration...Should I get
Intel® Core™ i7 620M 2.66 GHz or Intel® Core™ i7 920XM 2.0GHz
Dual 1GB ATI Radeon™ Mobility HD 4870 or CrossfireX™ 1GB ATI Radeon™Mobility HD 5870
Raid 0 or Raid 1 or just normal HDD. Which one is risky lost your data?
Thank you very much -
Things like basic computer usage, some multimedia, the 620M fits those needs perfectly, with the Dual 4870's. I'd still say Dual 5870's, because of their power.. but up to you for budget. -
Glad to see your problem was sorted out! -
-
Totally agree, it's a powerful beast and it has many usages. -
any time soon(this yr) ?
