Nope, only two dimm slots, your only hope is buying a 204 PIN 1333mhz 4gb RAM module.

Thanks for your help man!
I found this on Ebay - will it work with my AW?
4GB DDR3 MEMORY RAM PC3-10600 SODIMM 204-PIN 1333MHZ - eBay (item 330472327128 end time Oct-13-10 13:05:12 PDT) -

Yep, that will work, Good price too
-
Awesome! Bought!
Thanks guys! -
Man I got my kit when I first got the M17x R1, prices have dropped so much since than. 8GB cost me upwards of $470
Ehh, at least I've made good use of it and actually put it to good use.
-
Their like $140 each now for the 4gb DDR3 1333mhz so dimms here in the AUS. Used to be $400 - $500 easy.
I sure hope the SSDs follow suit soon with the RAM prices.
Cheers. -
I expect they will. Everything has. I bought 2 Intel 160GB SSDs for $880, 8GB Kit for $470, 920XM OEM for $850, it's amazing how quick the prices drop. And how much one can spend, only to have prices drop. But the thing that counts is I've put it all to extensive use. Well everything except one 160GB SSD. If the 4K speeds issue gets solved I might go raid 0 with it and remove the bluray drive for a 1GB HDD.
-
Not to sure about raiding them just yet. I'll still have to wait for the prices to drop + i need a 2nd hard drive with heaps of storage space as I do heaps of dling lol. Ever since going unlimited quota lol ehehehehe, its been open season on anything I see just DL it lol. Check it a week later or whenever. Don't like it Shift delete lol. However I can't keep up with the amount of dls coming in now lol so I'll def need a 2nd large capacity hard drive just to keep the flow going.
What you planning to use the 1GB hdd for in the blu ray slot? If you don't mind me asking.
Cheers. -

I think he meant 1 TB

I really gotta say, the difference in 5870s from 4870s in Splinter Cell Conviction is quite stunning. I am very happy with the 5870s so far.

WOWed
by my system lol. Good for you though chiefs. Great to hear!

Gosh darn it, where the are some GTX 4x0s! I'll take a 460 at this point :-D Just watched XoticPC's video review of the G73jw and it just seems so nice. Runs cool and stable, better drivers, etc. *sigh*
Not that a GTX 285 is bad by any means, but when the 460/470/480's out in already shipping, cheaper systems... -
Anyone have an idea what this is? I installed the Bios A09 and the updated vbios/gpu drivers. Well today I unplugged my system while moving the notebook, and it's the first time I've done that since the updates. Prior to the updates it would freeze the system and fry the gpu drivers. Anyway after unplugging the power from the back of the notebook, this driver installation poped up. Not really sure what it was, not worried about it, but just wanted a better understanding.
-
I have seen it though and took a pic of it as well.

Quick questions, what is the M17x screen made out of? Glass or Plastic? Are you to flex it in anyway and cause distortions?
-
miahsoul, i busted out laughing at your sig. Anyhow I think the m17x screen is the same as the M15x screen but pressing on it will cause a slight distortion. And it's plastic.
-
-
That, it would. Agreed, but it's not bad. I have no complaints.
-
How do you get Crysis to run in crossfire?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
It should on its own. If you want to verify that it is working, turn on the crossfire logo that shows when crossfire is being utilized. You will see it in the corner when you use a program that is utilizing crossfire
As I am sure you know, crysis will run slow even with crossfire so you may be using it and not realize it -
The temperatures don't add up to me is all

Leave 2 instances of GPU-z running. Go to the sensors tab and enable continue updating while in background. Set the GPU load option to max. Play the game some and check to see if they both go high (towards 98-100%).
And I am loving Froyo on my Dinc -
Thanks -
Yeah Froyo is amazing. I rerooted it as well and I'm even more in love with it

That screen resolution is a real sell point killer, I would think only around 1500 since it's pre owned
-
I was thinking about 1500-1600 as well. Guess I will post it up here for anyone if they are interested.

Hey guys, wondering if I could get a few here to chip in on my possible sale of my M17x-R2 found here. Thanks to those that look.
-
Man if you think Alienwares are expensive, try maxing out an M6500 on the Dell site. You have the option to max the ram at 32GB (8GBx4) for $9K!!! Insane what those 8GB RAM sodimms are going to cost.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
The people buying the 8gb dimms, are not paying for them, their business is haha
-
lol true, I gotta work for a business like that. Or just get a business to sponsor me to sit and bench all day. LN2, plenty of hardware. I need to get out and meet the right people
-
Scook you win the award for longest time without changing avatars
Edit: Also, I highly reccomend rooting your dinc. I got a ton of new apps that monitor and set certain things and my battery has started lasting an incredibly longer amount -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I may root it. Was going to if Froyo didn't get out soon
And I like my avatar, it is just too awesome haha (although the xmas crysis was fun while I had it there). And Quadzilla has had the same one for a long time too -

After having several gaming laptops over the years (HP Pavilion zv5000z, 7811fx, g73, w90vp) and always secretly pining for an AW, I just joined the club...
m17x R2
i7-740qm
6GB DDR3 1333
Dual 5870s Crossfire
2x500GB 7200 RPM
RGB LED 1920x1200
Got it refurb for a killer price. Will be posting my g73jh-x1 shortly for sale. A couple questions (browsed the thread, but didn't see any quick answers):
-For those OC-ing your CPU with the SetFSB method, what sort of clocks should I expect?
-What seems to be the norm for OC on the GPUs with AMDTool (on my g73 I could get 820/1150 stable)?
-How much of a POA is it to change out my DVD drive for Blu-Ray?
-Is there some sort of adapter/add-on card I could use to pipe sound through an optical cable so I can use my headphone amp/DAC? -
I take it your dac doesn't have a usb port? You'd need a some kind of converter. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
the dvd drive will be a royal PITA....but you should only need to do it once

How is the 640? -
Hi Guys,
An apology if this is the wrong forum for this query, but I was curious as to what, if any, memory upgrades other owners have made to their systems?
I notice a number of sigs showing Hyper-X 2GB modules are in use.
There seems to be a distinct shortage/lack of 4GB PC10600 'Enthusiast' SODIMMS in the AU market place (Or is this the just a general supply issue).
Also wondering if anyone has done any benching comparing factory modules (Hynix, Samsung, etc.) with AM products.
Happy to take advice/comment of the subject (Be nice!).
Cheers,

I noticed that you already have the 8gb DDR3 1333mhz ram.
I would say that is plenty and good enough already.
Most of the time when people are looking for upgrades it is mainly in the amount. You pretty much try and find the cheapest brand from a reliable souce/store to purchase from.
Different brand names and slight speed differences won't really make much of a difference in real world usage. Perhaps if you are chasing numbers and benching heavily. Looking to OC the ram perhaps of juice up the voltage and timings. All would still be very subtle in a notebook config. You should be fine juicing your current ram to 1.6v in DDR3 bios settings until Dell fixes the 1.7v issue.
So I would say that your already looking good and should be sitting pretty on your 8gb DDR3 1333Mhz chiefs. Enjoy.
If you wanted you could also disable the page file.
Cheers. -
Very happy to be getting rid of my triple-monitor desktop setup. I found I was constantly asking myself "do I really need this gigantic, power-sucking setup to play Mass Effect 2?". The answer ultimately was no. Bonus that my fiance will no longer be at my throat over our limited apartment space.
Bingo on the USB converter. Totally forgot my DAC came with one of those -- now I just need to dig it out of the nether regions of my closetsHopefully, I didn't throw it out.
