That's a nice review of the R2 .The only other review i have seen was a while back on notebookcheck.

The only shame is that they did not mention the screen. But ya, was nice to see someone in the media actually portray AW in a good light haha
Shame the majority of the readers at that site are insufferably cheap and close minded. They foam at the mouth when ANY highend laptop or Apple article/review comes out lol. They think everything should be cheap and have 15 hours of battery if it is a laptop......(idiots). They also like comparing price and performance to desktops, which as we know, is pointless as it is apples to oranges. I try to educate them but often get thumbed down for my "stupid" Alienware "Fanboy" remarks lol -

Made me lol
You know how to show your appreciation(starts with r and ends with ep)
-
Just proves Alienware did a better job engineering the R2 than Clevo's direct competing solutions. Though I always read Tom's reviews with a healthy dose of skepticism and doubt.
Edit: They also failed to mention build quality differences or the huge difference in LCD quality. -

As do I. I look more at the graphs than their commentary haha. Graphs tend to be less biased.
-
I'm more of a graph guy myself. I can draw my own conclusions with out thier opinions, but I was looking for mention of the RGB and was really suprised they didn't. They touched on the 16:9 vs. 16:10 issue, so close yet so far.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Ya I mentioned the lack of RGBLED in their review. If you read the comments at the bottom I am the argumentative one (same alias as here: scook9) lol
-
Yeah I gave thumbs up to your comments and just added my own.
-
Good review by Toms
@joker - i love your avy! -

You and me are double teaming that one idiot haha
Pretty sure EVERYONE knows that that toshiba is a cheap piece of crap. The keyboard feels HORRIBLE. -
I'm surprised that fool kept arguing over and over how the Toshiba is "almost as fast" as the M17x. Then he tried to claim the Toshiba display was better because it's 18.4" LOL! -
Holy %^@& !
Hope I never get into an argument with you two!!
Edit: Oops! Can I use a four letter word to describe excrement?
Edit2: Oh! Yes I can. TOSHIBA! It's more than four letters though ... LoL

Red looks amazing in that review. I was going to get mine in nebula red until I saw what happened to my friend's just after 2 months. Scratch magnet it is.
-
Anybody knows if the r2 accepts a i5 430 CPU? I am waiting for a CPU replacement and while I wait I have a 430 in my work laptop I can put in but I am lazy to do all this work if the r2 wont accept it.
-
-
because there's a chance that the bios will block unrecognized CPUs even if the platform allows them the same way it does with video cards.

Had a look my old posts to find what DR650SE has in his cpu collection. He has a i5 450 .Best ask him how he got on with it

cheers SAUCE, i'd rep you but gotta spread some more rep
-
Did you manage to sell your 820 on ebay ?.If so what you getting next?
-
yes, i did... and i am getting a 940xm...
-
-
yeah, i am buying an ES.. they are as good as the OEM ones and the prices for them have dropped to a acceptable level lately.
-
So ive been outta touch since june guys you need to catch me up on whats changed since then just got settled in the AOR!
-
All Laptop LCD's displays are glass. The plastic you see is the outer shell of the M17x laptop. The only plastic display is the OLED type.
-
-
Ahhmm, about 570 dollars from eBay including fedex shipping.
-
ouch! More than I thought...
What performance increase are you expecting? 10%, 20%?
I just upgraded my ram to 8GB - i feel special now
edit: stupid question, i'd be going from a 1.73Ghz to a 2.1... nice upgrade.. -
this chip?
New Intel Mobile Core™ i7-940XM Extreme 8M Turbo 3.3GHz -
damn, that isn't bad - buy the 940 for $570
sell the 820QM for $300 to 450 -
-

Haven't posted anything in a while, however I just wanted to say that I am still enjoying my beast atm.

No i am not suggesting using an es chip and trying to send it in for a warranty replacement that would be beyond stupidity. I would recommend buying a OEM chip to replace the ES chip and send it in for warranty. Only time you will need to buy a chip is if you have a complete unit replacement. If they are just replacing a part on site then it does not matter you have a ES chip unless that chip is what lead to the failure. I hope no one would ever think of putting a ES chip and sending it in for warranty replacement.
I plan to sell my OEM 740xm and buy another chip in the future if i need to send the laptop in for replacement and when it comes back sell the chip again and swap to the 920xm. -

What's the maximum RAM for the M17x-R2?
i'm at 8GB now.. my VMs are eating up 7.6GB
are 8GB chips available? -
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
But there also needs to be bios and chipset support. Which it is quite likely that the M17x lacks
-
-
JUST GOT OFFERED A REPLACEMENT M17X SYSTEM OVER MY M15X... SHOULD I TAKE IT? SAME SPECS + 1200p lcd and 5870m
guess i'd be dumb not too... -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I would be all over that personally.
You get twice the hard drive capabilities, a better keyboard, a better screen, future GPU upgrade path, better finish (more metalic and not plastic) -
GO→Jstarnino→GO ! -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I also forgot overclocking and an hdmi output.
-
-
yea that sale didn't work out...
but yea overclocking wise... if i drop a 920/940 in there if i'm not mistaken the 220W adapter and M17x bios allows fo rmuch better CPU ocing than the M15x is that right?
Looks like i just have to jump ship
I know it was obvious but man i've made some stupid decisions on the fly before... just needed to slow things down and get some re-assurance... thanks guys
looks like i can buy a small POWERHOUSE ssd now to boot off of and use the 500gb hdd to store things... Yea im convinced. im doin it.
EDIT: I officialy subscribed to this thread... but the M15x owners thread will always be my hoem im afraid... too many good buddies there
-
YES!!!! JUMP IT AND SELL ME THAT LAPTOP!!! DONT LOOK BACK!!!! -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
