The only shame is that they did not mention the screen. But ya, was nice to see someone in the media actually portray AW in a good light haha

Shame the majority of the readers at that site are insufferably cheap and close minded. They foam at the mouth when ANY highend laptop or Apple article/review comes out lol. They think everything should be cheap and have 15 hours of battery if it is a laptop......(idiots). They also like comparing price and performance to desktops, which as we know, is pointless as it is apples to oranges. I try to educate them but often get thumbed down for my "stupid" Alienware "Fanboy" remarks lol

Just proves Alienware did a better job engineering the R2 than Clevo's direct competing solutions. Though I always read Tom's reviews with a healthy dose of skepticism and doubt.

Edit: They also failed to mention build quality differences or the huge difference in LCD quality.

I'm more of a graph guy myself. I can draw my own conclusions with out thier opinions, but I was looking for mention of the RGB and was really suprised they didn't. They touched on the 16:9 vs. 16:10 issue, so close yet so far.

I'm surprised that fool kept arguing over and over how the Toshiba is "almost as fast" as the M17x. Then he tried to claim the Toshiba display was better because it's 18.4" LOL!

Anybody knows if the r2 accepts a i5 430 CPU? I am waiting for a CPU replacement and while I wait I have a 430 in my work laptop I can put in but I am lazy to do all this work if the r2 wont accept it.

Don't see why not same socket 988 & you already have i5 proc's already supported in bios.I am sure DR650 will know as he has a good collection of cpu's for his R2 .Think he has a i3 .So should be good to go ;)

because there's a chance that the bios will block unrecognized CPUs even if the platform allows them the same way it does with video cards.

 All Laptop LCD's displays are glass. The plastic you see is the outer shell of the M17x laptop. The only plastic display is the OLED type.

I just upgraded my ram to 8GB - i feel special now :)

edit: stupid question, i'd be going from a 1.73Ghz to a 2.1... nice upgrade..

You can always buy the processor back and prices are always dropping when i was looking at 920xm they were $450 and now you can get a 920xm for $380 which is a 15% price drop in a 2.5 month period. OEM prices will be different but you would expect a drop especially once sandy bridge is released.

Are you suggesting putting an ES chip? You'll be fried if they somehow catch this.

No i am not suggesting using an es chip and trying to send it in for a warranty replacement that would be beyond stupidity. I would recommend buying a OEM chip to replace the ES chip and send it in for warranty. Only time you will need to buy a chip is if you have a complete unit replacement. If they are just replacing a part on site then it does not matter you have a ES chip unless that chip is what lead to the failure. I hope no one would ever think of putting a ES chip and sending it in for warranty replacement.

I plan to sell my OEM 740xm and buy another chip in the future if i need to send the laptop in for replacement and when it comes back sell the chip again and swap to the 920xm.

Yes, but terribly expensive. Samsung just began mass producing 8gb modules last week. Just wait a few months and should be within reach(at least for me).

But there also needs to be bios and chipset support. Which it is quite likely that the M17x lacks

You get twice the hard drive capabilities, a better keyboard, a better screen, future GPU upgrade path, better finish (more metalic and not plastic)

yea that sale didn't work out...

but yea overclocking wise... if i drop a 920/940 in there if i'm not mistaken the 220W adapter and M17x bios allows fo rmuch better CPU ocing than the M15x is that right?

Looks like i just have to jump ship :D

I know it was obvious but man i've made some stupid decisions on the fly before... just needed to slow things down and get some re-assurance... thanks guys :D :D :D

looks like i can buy a small POWERHOUSE ssd now to boot off of and use the 500gb hdd to store things... Yea im convinced. im doin it.

EDIT: I officialy subscribed to this thread :D ... but the M15x owners thread will always be my hoem im afraid... too many good buddies there :D
