Woah its dead in here!! where is everybody? lol

Ok so i got a question for you all:

How long is battery life on the BEAST? not gaming... just you know... bare minimum stuff like browsing the net and typing something up on word. Also there's only one battery available for the M17x right?

Second, the configuration details Dell sent me says it comes with a 150watt ac adpater... i thought it was 220-240watt or something to power dual hdds, dual gpus and an extreme processor???

The M15x already maxed out its 150watt psu with a 1 5870 and a XM processor??

    am i missing something?

Also, anything in particular i should watch out for? recurring issues? Or has the recent bios A09 solved alot of things?

    any complaints about the system?

I'm a M15x veteran but a M17x Newbie... so who wants to help me out :)

You only get the 240W adapter if you have either dual gpus or the extreme cpu

Since you will have neither, 150W for you.

lol no... if i was crapping 100$ bills maybe... but the only thing that comes outta there aint pretty LOLL.

I'm going to push for the to give me a 240watt psu anyways because i want to upgrade in the "near" future.

At the same time... i'm also thinking of just going for dual GPU's now since it will probably be cheaper...than upgrading later..

You could probably swing the upgraded psu easy. Not sure what your arrangement is but getting dual gpus will probably pose more of a challenge

    Sweet. Ok so it's official!

my M17x will be configured as:

    i7 740qm
8gb DDR3 (got bumped to 8 from 6 after some convincing woohoo!)
    500gb hdd
    5870m
    1200p RGB LED
    intel wlan 6300
    ANDDDDD a 240 watt psu :D

not too shabby ... can't wait to drop a second 5870m and a 940 in that BEAST :D

Post your order info here when you get it. This's interesting because there is no such option to choose 240w adapter unless they are sending it to you in a separate box.

you're right there isn't... but i've been dealing with a lvl 3 tech support agent part of the engineering team, that has been specifically assigned my case... so he could pretty much do whatever he wants.. already issuing a M17x as a replacement for a M15x isn't part of the "norm" and he told me its actually the first time he's done something like this...

Interesting. Is your order placed yet? If the system doesn't allow it, not even the highest authority can do it. May be they are shipping it separately as I've mentioned?

One word "sweet" should do me for a few years. Wish i had your keyboard though.

The Alienware Orion Backpack (ScanFast) ME-AWBP2.0 says the laptop compartment only handles 2" but mine is 2.2-2.4 do you think there is enough space to sqeeze the x7200 in?

So I finally loaded up Steam on my machine and got Dirt 2 and MW2 downloading (had both for a while but never got steam haha)

Why the hell is the multiplayer of MW2 a separate 11 GB game?!

I have the Orion Backpack and love it. My m17x-R2 fits nicely (with it's sleeve). It also carries my 1TB external backup drive and AC adapter, power brick, an assortment of cables and attachments, including my mouse.

    And there's still room. :D

Not sure about US, but in EMEA it's not a problem for the reps to change the PSU. I alwaus ask for the 240W when helping friends config their M17x's. :)

Out of curiosity, what happened to the M15x? And you probably know this, but I think you have to replace the GPU to drop in two, like they're on one thingee together...I think...maybe.

    here you go.

M17X anti-glare items - Get great deals on Computers Networking items on eBay.com!

buy whichever you want. i tried them both. Both really make some nice job with a minimum side effect on the screen clarity.

I really never care for sunlight any more since i first used them.

    i got offered a 2nd 5870m from dell for 370.86$ shipped+installed.

Think this is a good price?

Free Crossfire promotion reads like Alienware might be clearing stock, for something new.

well apparently the 460m is just behind the 5870m... so the 470m should basically be a tad more powerful or on par... with of course Physx support, and better driver support...

but i honestly haven't heard much for the 470m... but i have heard that the 460m is behind the 5870m...

    probably be like this:

    GTX480m
    GTX470m
    5870m
    GTX460m
    4870m
    GTX285m/GTX280m
    GTX260m

Enabling PhysX will drag down frame rates as it consumes GPU resources so you have to take than into account, since a GTX 470m with PhysX enabled will probably be slower than a 5870m

What is really exciting, is Fermi scale much better than anything in crossfire at the moment so GTX 470m SLI should be awesome (if it is ever released :( )

^^^^^ Yea i was thinking the exact same...

Anyone know if you can flash a fermi vbios to a non fermi card? I've read that the only difference between fermi cards n gaming cards (assumign same hardware specs, or close) are that fermi cards have a seperate team of engineers that work out much better optimized vbios and drivers for the work than professionals users will be doing... and the gaming cards are given sloppy poorly optimized vbios' n drivers (with much less time and research spent on them).

If this is true, wouldn't that essentially mean, that one can flash a fermi bios onto a normal card? and get like a 200% improvement on performance :D :D ??

    i know i know... i'm dreaming in color aren't i...
