The Dualhead2go will support 2 monitors at 1920x1080 + the laptop monitor. The Triplehead2go will support 3 external monitors however i think they will have a lower resolution.

Right. I am still waiting for some confirmation on the DualHead2Go (Read: You). It's either that or the Minideck from Sewell ($99). It also supports 1920x1200 (or 1080).

using 3 outputs? i don't think this is possible using 3 outputs you select 1 or the other. A video card only has the capability of 2 outputs regardless of ports. You could possibly send to 2 outputs with no laptop screen support, or laptop screen plus 1 output (display port) or use a third party product to take that output and dump it to 2 monitors. hence the dualhead2go product.

That is why eyefinity is exciting. It allows upto 6 outpus if all displayport from a 5k series card

OK, here is where I think the confusion takes place. Moo and Scook are talking about Eyefinity. Which is supposed to support output to more than 2 displays.

Now I'm assuming Scook meant that if you wanna game in all 3 monitor glory and take full advantage of Eyefinity, you would need all monitors to be the same size and resolution. Otherwise gaming like this will look stupid with the middle monitor being so small at 17" regardless of resolution. I agree with this.

Moo was talking about the technical aspect of running 3 monitors, not noticing what scook really meant.

There you go. Now you can go back to your regularly scheduled program. If this is not what it was about, then add me to the confused list.

The reason for this is that one big monitor, depending on how big that is, would be maybe 30", brutally expensive. If you just mean a big HDTV like, that is still smaller, resolution-wise than 2 monitors at 1920x1080.

It's all about screen real estate.

Yes those are the same cards but ours have GDDR3 (no one ever got GDDR5 4870s)

That site generally sucks alot for benchmark numbers though

Gee, if you want that many monitors and screen real estate why not just get a desktop and be able to have the latest and greatest graphics cards rather than wait for the mobile versions all the time?

I buy a laptop to be able to move it around the house and play games where ever I want. Otherwise I would be using a desktop with multiple monitors.

I like to game while I work laptop 17" to the left 24" external in the middle to game and 24" on the right.

    Center one to game
left one for email and IM tools for work
right to browse web and/or stream sports or movies

I have tried gaming on a 47" LCD HDTV but I find I am moving my head too much rather than just moving eyes around. Plus resolution limitations you have a lot more real estate over 3 monitors than 1 huge one. Things just get bigger on a huge one.

Dual monitors are good but once you go to 3 it's real hard to go back lol..

Ps I use an external keyboard g15 and mouse (hmm some logitech gaming one).

Have tried having a laptop for work and desktop to game at home but find when I travel or go somewhere I like having everything with me which is why I do everything on laptop now.

On my M17X r2 it seems to have some warping right above the touch pad where the palm rest area meets the keyboard area. It is very small. Anyone else notice this?

Hey, Moo! ^_^ My Dell rep is asking where I found you posting that the 5870 will be out in two weeks so he can reconfirm with Dell product engineering. Unfortunately, when I searched for your post again, I noticed that you have edited it as above. Does that mean my Dell rep is right that the M17x will not be refreshed with the ATI HD5870 in two weeks but with the Nvidia 285m in May or June instead? I am not changing my current order if so. Thanks! ^_^

I threw up a quick video, it's nothing exciting since I started filming the first server I managed to get into (the game browser doesn't work for me half the time in BFBC2). There's parts in the video where the fps drops to the 25-30 fps range but it's momentary and only when there's a ton of particle effects. Otherwise it's fairly steady in the 50-70+ range:

    \<param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/r_GMuEjVIHs&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/r_GMuEjVIHs&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='425' height="344"></embed></object>

The video is still processing on youtube right now so it may not show up yet and the quality won't be very good until it's done processing.

Warping as in a deviation from flatness? No uneven parts on this area on my system. However, I do get some squeeky sounds as I tend to put my elbows on the lower part of the system sometimes, so I assume this plastic part of the structure is a bit weak (as it is on all laptops I have had, perhaps it is why it is called palm rest and not elbow rest :) ).

(sorry if I misunderstood, English is not my mother language)

Joker, I posted my question as a new thread before I realized you had posted here, did you have any issues with tearing? With my rig and ATi profiles I can't seem to get rid of tearing no matter what I try. I notice you have have vsynch off, do you over ride it or just live with any tearing, or do you even get tearing? Not surprisingly, my frame rate is in about the same range, but maybe 10 off since I run 4xAA.

I too get a *slight* creak on the left side around the pad, but it's nothing like the M15x...

Why wouldn't they? Unless they have stock to get rid of, but supposedly Dell doesn't keep much stock around.

    What cost?

It may well take forever for them to finally update the cards, but it's still frustrating to get outdated ones when newer GPUs are available.

Supposedly 10.3 finally supports mobile GPUs, and is coming this month. Might even be just a week away at this point...maybe.

Hi all, here is the response from my Dell rep regarding the 5870. Excuse the bad english :) here is the quote from his email i received this morning.

"I have confirmed with my PM about this. Suppose they will release this soon but they got pushed back. And I have also confirm that if new video card have release, I will send you this upgraded card for you to install in this your unit. "

    Ok firstly thats good news!!!!
Secondly I think the "And I have also confirm that if new video card have release, I will send you this upgraded card" is not going to happen at the end. Trust me they will just tell you we have excess demand or we are out of stock because thats what they do.
And last I dont think you should really bother at the moment. Have you seen jokers video playing battlefield 2. The dual 4870's seem to keep up very well and they definetly kick the crap out of a single 5870.

I think the second part "and i have also confirm that if new video card have release"... is just poor english but i guess it's not totally clear.

They will send them to me, I've sent Dell millions of dollars of sales, one of the top resellers in Canada since they opened the resale program many years ago so i'm not worried about that. My only concern is if the 5870's will work in crossfire off the jump and if any other mods to the system will be required to get them going.

and yup i saw those vids... the 4780 in crossfire is plenty! Either way i'm getting my system in a few weeks, just wanted to make sure my rep knew i'd be unimpressed if the new ones show up soon following my delivery!

Well, Moo has been pretty reliable so far. Anyway, let's wait and see if my Dell Rep is right since he is pretty sure that the M17x-R2 will be refreshed with the Nividia 285M in May or June instead of the ATI 5870 next unless there is a last minute change of plans.
