Dell certified Nvidia driver 311.48 For AW 17 are on the Dell support website.

Gosh, that seems like an awfully old driver, considering we are on 320.xx's now.....I wonder if they include latest support for recent games. 314.07 WHQL was released back in February, and going off the numerical order, these drivers are based on drivers older than those....Still, if they work.... -
Anyone else experienced random game chrashes with BF 3 ?
Running on Bios A03 - NV 326.41 - Win 8
Dedicated mode
Can't give more info about chrash, it's randomly and with start up of new games.
Had some other game chrashes with GW2 as well, I will install the "new" stock drivers from the Dell site and see if that changes anything... -
326.19 works perfectly with the 780M. Also, I tested 326.41 and it doesn't perform as well.
EVGA Precision X + 326.19 + A03 BIOS = no issues in regards to performance. -
Got the same here played BF3 last night ran 90 fps great

Ok i'm a bit of a noob with EVGA precision X, could one of you be so kind to guide me through these settings ?
I have successfully installed the 326.19. -
I had a ton of issues with games crashing with the 326 series drivers. I'm back on 314.22 on my desktop and no more issues. I thought my overclocks had become unstable, but I wound up turning them off and even tried underclocking them and still had the same issues. Rolled back the driver, brought my overclocks back up and I'm golden. Nvidia has been on a terrible streak with drivers after 314.22.

I just received my AW 17 about 5 days ago and have been running a couple bench marks on it, FFXIV World and 3dMark11. In the FFXIV benchmark my score has only been as high as about 8300 on maximum settings in 1920x1080. In 3dMark11 on Performance preset my scores have varied but seem to be in the vicinity of P6800; these are all while EVGA Precision X is running with temp target set to 85. I can't say that I am impressed with these scores, compared to others I have seen. Only changes I have made is +50/+120 to clocks.
Reading through the EVGA Hardwaremonitoring log, I am unsure what to look for that would cause a problem. I did notice that the highest mem usage I am seeing is 343, which seems odd because running the same test on my desktop with a gtx 580 the mem usage is almost triple that. Does anyone know what I might be able to try? -
Now that nvidia has included opengl support to their gtx range. Has anyone with a 120hz screen managed to view quad buffered stereo opengl content in 3d on their alienware 17? For instance the free program pymol: download.cnet.com/PyMOL/3000-2054_4-10914845.html I think a lot of people would be very interested in this possibility as it would allow gtx cards to perform a task previously restricted to quadro cards.

Are you using the stock vbios? Try not to overclock your gpu when using your stock bios since it gives you are worse result. I experienced really low results when trying to overclock my card with the stock vbios. Once you use the unlocked vbios mentioned earlier in this thread you can try to overclock it.
-
Okay I'm pretty impressed with this laptop but there's a problem. I can't seem to install the 326.qo driver? It says The driver could not find compatible graphics hardware
-
See Micky's response. Had similar problems.

What scores do you get with 0 overclock? could be an unstable overclock, or your Nvidia drivers aren't stable. On 326 Beta drivers Ii get 7220P in 3D Mark 11 with 0 overclock -
Gotten 6972 on 3DM11 with Evga set to 85 degrees, A03 and 326.19. No overclock. Pretty bad score.
-
I got more than 7k when I ran it. You should try it again.
Also, EVGA Precision is weird. It will sometimes run multiple instances and eat up CPU, which can result in lower scores. Check your task manager and look for "EVGA" and you may notice more than one process. On my computer, EVGA Precision makes the CPU usage climb up to 30% sometimes, if this happens.
I've reported this to EVGA, but I haven't heard anything back. -
The process didn't went high at all. Funny thing is, I just benchmarked again +135Mhz/513Mhz and I got P6823 with a Gtx 780m and a 4900MQ. 100 points lower than before
-
How is it in actual gaming though??
-
Not good either. I was trying to replicate from P150SM More Gameplay Benchmarks - YouTube with Sleeping dogs and I get 43fps+ jumping around 50 and sometimes 60. Not always a constant 50+-60fps. Tried overclocking with Evga Precision X and it seems to be more worse. I don't want to Flash because it might void my warranty but I don't seem to have any choice.
-
Stupid question but you are plugged in right?
-
NVIDIA Inspector works just as well, and without those pesky multiple instances issues.
-
I'll give it a try. EVGA responded to my report, but they do not seem to know what's causing the issue.
Edit: It seems to be working. Thanks for the suggestion. -

Anyone else's screen make a slight clicking noise when you put pressure on the bottom segment of it? (Eg when wiping dust off it). Nothing wrong with the screen but can't work out why It is doing it
-
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
You mean the sound of the adhesive sticking to the back of the screen? Most screens have a light adhesive to keep them from shifting. -
Yeah that could be it. Never noticed it before. Do you get it? Only happens near the bottom
-
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
Yea I get it, I think its mostly there because thats where the cables attach into the back of the screen maybe? They have adhesive as well. -
The problem you are having is 100% to do with your vbios I was having the same problems with EVGA after installing it and setting the target temp at 85, I also would get around 6800 score on 3DMark11, and if I tried to over clock my scores would either be worse or the benchmark would crash and why is this you ask? Its because without flashing svls vbios you can't gain access to the power meter in EVGA, it is greyed out. In order for you to actually gain a benefit from EVGA you need to link the target temp with the Power meter, you'll see after flashing the new vbios and setting the temp and having it linked to the power meter that you need to increase the power meter in order for EVGA to accept that target temp. I did this and am now getting scores of 7600 without having touched the clocks.
I just repasted my GPU and CPU with Arctic silver 5, which takes 200 hours or so to break in. Once broken in I'll try overclocking.
Hope that this helps.
Ps if you do chose to flash SVL vbios from techinferno.com, be sure that after creating the USB drive to boot and beginning the flash that you include the command for turning off write protect, SVL's instructions for flashing seem to have missed this and it's crucial for the flash to work. I believe the command is " nvlash -protectoff" but you'll see once you're in the flash screen -
I mean every time the disk is accessed ( the hdd activity bllinks).
I tried that and it's not it.
I updated to A03, still the same thing.
Well, now I'm pretty sure that the fan is defective, it began to make new noise today and speed up on about every click I do. And there is a very little high pitch sound that fluctuate.
I tried to reach dell today but there seem that they also have technical difficulties of their own.
I really don't know why it makes a little swoosh sound on any hdd activity.
So I guess I got a lemon, faulty fan and squeaky keyboard, I wonder if they will repair it on site or I will have to ship it back. -
You have the 3d version?
-
I noticed today that when I'm watching streamed videos, I periodically get a slight delay or lag every 2 minutes or so. Could these be a hardware issue ? ( But it might also be a slow connection..)
And if noticed significantly squeaking of some keys on the keyboard when pressed quickly -
So a technician is coming over Thursday to replace my LCD screen. It looks like they pretty much have to take the entire thing apart to get at the screen. Has anyone had it done before and do they do a good job? Also concerned the work is not exactly being done in a dust free environment!

What's wrong with the LCD? -
benchmark of Dirt 3 with the 780m (Settings are maxed out, AA was on MSAA x8: minimum 63 FPS, Average 78 FPS.

Got a cluster of white pixels

So I'm kinda noob at looking at the temps and would like help on this subject. Should I look at the value of the temp or the Maximum temp? I'm I'm gaming and my CPU hits 70 degrees on maximum, Value is 55% and GPU is 57 degrees. Is it alright?
-
Nice score there on the high end..
Your temps are just fine I look at max temp when benching or gaming..these new 17's run real cool compared to the older models.

Update: EVGA reported back to me that EVGA Precision X was designed for desktop computers, not notebooks, and suggested that I stick with programs released by NVIDIA instead. I assume they would at least try to fix the issue, but it appears they won't be doing so. It's a shame, really. If I were working for EVGA, I would see this as an opportunity to expand my target market with this software ... but hey, that's just me.
Anyway, NVIDIA Inspector works great. I'd suggest using that if you run into issues with EVGA Precision X.
-
3D Mark makes my CPU run up to 90 degrees which is bloody hot but they are able to reach temps of 105 I've heard I just repasted the CPU so if I don't see these temps drop I'll be repasting( Used Arctic Silver 5 before) I have a feeling I might have used to much and it is insulating the CPU now, or is it just normal for the over clocked 4990Qms to reach this temp?
-
Is there a way to make nvidia inspector run at startup and apply the profile?
-
Sorry double post
-
Yes, there's a "Create Shortcut" button, just click on it and move the shortcut to the C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.
