Thanks for the tip Dane. I was very weary of updating my drivers because I didn't want to lose the capability of switchable graphics. I didn't realize just installing over top would still allow me to use switchable graphics and boost my score. Here is my Vantage run after installing 11.6 over top AMD Radeon HD 6970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2720QM Processor,Alienware M17xR3 score: P13286 3DMarks

6850 Desktop clocks of 820/1100. P14992, almost a thousand point just from drivers.

I'm not feeling the urge to go any faster.

Man you keep beating me by a solid 300-400 points. I wonder what is inside your GPU. Are you overclocking at all, or is that all stock?

LOL I ran stock for those tests, here is an overclock to 835/1215. Your CPU is beating mine though.

Looks like this is good enough for the Top 5 of the R3s.

Just ran a Vantage 14656 on my R2 this evening... not bad for a 720QM CPU.

My CPU was at 103.99mhz. My GPU was at 840/1175.

I tried with higher clocks: (850/1215) but I actually had a lower score across all boards.

I ran 3DMark 11 and my overall score was 3755, pretty crappy it seems. My GPU for some reason just won't go that high. And 850/1215 is reasonably high yet it doesn't even come close to the 4000 + score people are getting.

Edit: I am using dell drivers, apparently the 11.6 did not install the actual drivers. I will retry later with the newer drivers posted on the previous page.

I've posted on this thread before, but not recently. Work usually doesn't leave much room for play lately. I do love benching, though. Considering my hardware limitations, I pushed my current configuration as far as I can without upgrades. I was going to get add SSD drive, add 6970 CFX and 920/940XM CPU upgrade to become a more viable M17x competitor, but I am going with an M18x instead.

Yeah I had considered the 18x as well, but went the opposite route. Upgraded my 720QM to a 920XM a week or so ago and now just waiting for my 6970s to arrive in the mail. Fantastic score still on your current HW.

So I'm pretty new to all of this benchmarking stuff and I want to know if this is a good score for my hardware. I have a m17x r3 with a 2630qm and an 6870m. I have bm bclk set to 105.6 and my clocks on the 6870 are 870/1285
I scored a 11198 on vantage in the default test. Is this a good score for my system?

Thanks man. I don't think I can push any further, once I set it to 845 it crashes after a few minutes. I did a run at 840/1220 that got an 80pt increase but that's about it.

All these benches makes me wish I had gotten the 6970m. I tried to call Dell to order the 6970m and they said that at this time they aren't selling Any gpu upgrades for the m17x r3!!! How lame is that!

It's not lame, it's just not true. Call another rep and ask for a manager if they tell you the same thing. If they tell you they don't currently have stock for upgrades that's one thing but telling you they're not selling them is just a dumb rep.

I have not had time to really oc my clocks on my gpu and test them. I set it to 850/1010 with MSI afterburner and checked the tempature and didnt push the clocks any higher. (3 kids, I get called away a lot during projects!)

That could be it. I'll rerun the test tonight, and then set my clocks close to his and see what results I get.

I do remember the test results stating that my score was below others with the same system.

So here are my results. I don't understand how a core clock boost of like 35mhz and a mem clock boost of like 15mhz can yield 500 + more of a Graphics score on 3DMark 11.

    http://i54.tinypic.com/b7jbr6.png

3899 is my score, I cannot believe just tied someone with spot #4 on the list.

No, don't get it wrong, but those 15mhz won't make you conquer 4k mark, you'd better use this guide and OC your CPU as well and don't forget to install 11.7 AMD drivers! Than you good to go :)

I didn't get any higher results with my CPU overclocked surprisingly. And you're saying 11.7 is better than 11.6?

And my GPU clocks are as high as they go. A few more mhz more and the driver crashes or the computer needs to be powered down.

Just a recommendation that may help you out, back your memory clocks down a bit to like 1150-1175 then up the core clock past 840. Try it and you may be surprised. ;)

    Screen Shot of my 3dvantage.

11.7 drivers. Could only OC my gpu to 820/1150 with msi afterburner. Anything higher and my system became unstable ie: locked up, driver crash.

I also added with in the screen shot my cystaldiskmark results. I have a Kingston SSD Now V+ 128g. Seems kinda low for a ssd compared to other results found on this forum.

Cool Nice job keeping the leader board up to date. I am going to try and get on it lol. :p

Just curious what GPU clocks you guys had or were running on the 5870s Core and MEM when benching? What was the max settings?

I am currently trying to reach the elusive 20k score. I am soo close but yet so far lol :p

reborn - I was able to run my 5870s stable and with acceptable temps at 800/1200. Much more than that produced artifacts, display corruption and temps in the high 90's, and sometimes a BSOD. Here is a screen shot from my R2 OC'd as described. LINK

    Hey Foxxy :p

Thanks for the tip! You have given me a starting point score to beat in Vantage now ;)

I'm just setting random clocks at the moment. Running bench after bench lol.
I'm going to re dl Vantage now and see what I can score since 3d mark 06 is so disappointing for me atm. I can't even reach my 20k goal lol. It must be the drivers ehahahahah :D

You're very welcome, friend. As my R2 had a 720QM, you should be able to squash that Vantage score with your 840QM or 920XM CPU with minimal effort.

Here were my 3DMark11 and 3DMark06 benchmarks on the R2. You already blew my '06 scores out of the water with your 920 Extreme CPU, so I trust the results with Vantage will be equally higher.

Hmm. You might try using compatibility mode and make sure you launch with Admin privileges. Right click the executable and set it to run for All Users in Vista SP2 mode as Administrator. (I have to do that for Crysis and Crysis benchmark under Windows 7 or they will not launch on my systems.) If this is not a fix for you, I'm not sure just off the top of my head what else you can try.
