Your CPU is probably throttling a bit in 3dM06, you should get a 10-15% higher CPU score with your settings (26x)... maybe it runs a bit hot.

What's the limit of your 5870m? Can't you push them to 900MHz and more?

Great work, keep the score coming! :D

    Hey svl7,

    Thanks man! :D

Yeh I think I'm pretty much at my limit with the GPU's. I may have to lower the MEM perhaps then I can reach 900mhz on the core. At the moment if I increase either one a bit the benches will freeze.

I have just downloaded TS and started to mess a little with it to try and bump my 3d mark 06 score. Running it during the 3d mark 11 score actually lowers the score quite a bit so I will mainly use it for 06.

I am pretty close to getting into the top 5 leader board for all 3 main benches, but I just need that little be extra it seems. :p

You gonna do some benching too chiefs?

    Cheers. :)

Yes, you're mem is very high, pretty cool. Lowering it a bit may help. I see TriXX says you're a 1.05V... is this true? Because in this case you should be able to get past 900MHz without issues when increasing the voltage.

The combined test of 3dM11 can push the system pretty hard, especially the PSU, when you go crazy with the TDP it's possible to have some issues with the power I guess.

3dM06 is very CPU dependable, make sure to push the CPU there. Usually I can't push the GPU clocks for 3dM06 as far as with vantage an 3dM11.
When pushing the CPU, the most important thing is to keep it cool enough, so it doesn't begin to throttle, but that's obvious.

I'm planning to do some benching sessions when I have time and when I got my new PSU. I recently did a voltmod for my CPU, but the power draw is crazy... I wanna see whether the bigger PSU helps a bit. But 4 GHz on all cores is a lot of fun, hope I can do some benches with it without having the system crashing.

Yeh I really have been lazy during this benching session in terms of watching my temps lol. :p
I'm going to run a few more benches and see how I go. Might give it a rest after this.

Looking forward to seeing your benching goodness soon. :D

I haven't touched the voltage part on Trixx. I was thinking of moving the slider slightly but haven't tried so yet.
Voltages should be running all on stock. I haven't touched them.

I keep crashing now during benches. :(
Might give it a rest for now.

Ok, wow!! 880MHz on stock voltage... impressive!! If you raise the voltage you will easily be able to get past 900MHz (and getting in the top 5 :D)

I was benching the 5850m at 1.15V, you can go pretty crazy with such a voltage, I don't know exactly about the 5870m, maybe it can even go to 1.2V. So you should be able to significantly boost your scores, you only have to make sure that you can keep your system cool enough, more voltage will really increase the heat.

It seems you have some excellent GPUs, good luck! :)

Nice GPU score, in 3dM06 it's only the CPU score that's holding you back from the top 5, either your TDP is too low or your system gets too hot during the tests. When you can do such a 3dM06 run and keep the multi at 26, you should have a highscore.

Good work! By removing the back cover of the system and lifting the system a little bit you should be able to lower the temps a few degrees, but if you want to really improve the scores you'll need additional cooling or a really low ambient temperature. The 920xm can get insanely hot, and once you start increasing the GPU voltage it'll heat up as well.

I see you have some very nice scores as well. WOW correction I just saw that your World Champion for all 3 main benches lol! Amazing scenes! Congrats!

Now if only I had some DICE! ;) :p
Dammm Vantage keeps crashing. Need to lower the clocks for this bench. It seems to be a bit more sensitive lol.

Whoo talked to Dell about a gpu upgrade and their supposed to call me with pricing details on Monday and I wanted to ask your guys opinions. Which is better the gtx 580m or the 6990m. And if the 580m is better, is it that much of an increase over the 6990m to justify the fact that it's double the price?

The 580 isn't an increase over the 6990. Nvidia just charges way too much. Those two cards are more than likely just as good.

Alright that's good to know. That's kind of rediculous that it would have the same performance and be half of much price wise. I cant wait to get the 6990 and start benching it.

You're doing miracles on stock voltage, really... You've got some awesome cards!
Once you get some proper cooling (dry ice or whatever) and increase the voltage, you should be able to crush some of the top scores!

Yeah I'll gladly explain it to you. I'll send you a pm with as detailed instructions I can give you.

Edit: I cant send the pm idk why.

    Download theese applications
    CPU-Z
    GPU-Z
    OCCT
    Saphire Trixx
    Ati Tool

    CPU:
    1. Power down computer
    2. Boot into bios. (F2)
    3. Go to advanced tab.
    4. Go to performance tab.
    5. Enable overclocking feature.
    6. Find BCLK (this will be the only thing you will be messing with
    7. Increase it by .5
    8. Select set clock immediately.
    9. Save changes and boot into windows.
    10. Open up OCCT and run cpu stress test for 15 min.
    11. If it doesnt crash repeat all the steps until your system becomes unstable and then set it to your highest BCLK. If it

    GPU:
    1. Open Saphire Trixx
    2. Open ati tool
    3. Slide the Core/Memory bar up by 10 mhz each
    4. In ati tool click scan for artifacts. If you see green lines running across the box then reset your clocks.
    5. Run occt
    6. Start a gpu test in occt with error checking enabled and run it for 15 min.
    7. If it finds no errors then repeat all above steps until you find your max overclock.

Hope thats helpful. If you need any more help or if i wasnt clear enough just let me know and i will help you as much as possible.

    Hey DR! :p

    Thanks man. ;)

I'll give it a go with the voltage increase for 3d mark 11. I don't think it will help me much for 3d mark 06. I can run on normal GPU clocks and still score 21k lol. Just too CPU bound that one. I really want to hit 23k though in 06. :p

    + for 3d mark 11 I wouldn't mind hitting 6k lol.

For Vantage I'm not to far off from the top 5 leaderboard however it is such a long bench and it crashes heaps on high clocks. It's so sensitive.

How are your 6970s? I can't wait to see some more serious benching from you when you get the time.
I've been in contact with Dell trying to source some 6990Ms. No luck yet though. They keep offering me 6970s.

Oh yeh do I need extra ordinary cooling if I increase the GPU voltage?
I've got no idea what I'm doing with TS lol. I just set the TDP to random numbers 90 and 74 and set the multipliers to 26 and 27 sometimes lol..............it seems to do the job. Any tips there?

It's so annoying right now cause I keep scoring the same 22k + in 06. CMON gimme a 23k breakthrough!!!

    Cheers. :)

Increasing the voltage will increase the temperatures, I guess with 1.15V you'll have to use some additional cooling, otherwise it might shutdown... unless you have low ambient temps or if it's chilly outside you can do some runs on the window sill (that's how I bench during Winter :)).

1.15V will allow you to seriously push your core clock (not the memory, the memory voltage stays at the same level), you'll see. Keep an eye on your temps once you start with increasing the voltage, as soon as you know that it works fine you can stop monitoring.

Make sure you have disabled the feature tests in vantage, they're unnecessary and take quite a while.

    AH awesome tip man.

I will try the voltage thing again then by just increasing the core clock.
I will leave the MEM at 1290 or something.

No wonder it kept crashing lol. I was about to just give up and call it another bench session ended. :p

Now I will give it another go with the raised core clock and voltage.

Lol yea 3dmark06 is very cpu bound. Gpu you dont to high. Cpu though that's where you need the extra cooling to OC hard enough to get 23k. You'll need the additional voltage too on the cpu through the bios.

Have you adjusted you ccc settings for 3dmark11? Everything turned down? Try pushing the gpu core to around 920mhz. The memory should be fine at 1250-1300. Try 920/1250.

    Okie Dokies.

    I'm gonna try that now.
Yeh I have pushed everything left in CCC. Here we go.
I have the MV set to 150 in the bios along with 1.7v for the RAM.

Not sure what else I can do apart from getting some of your DICE LOL!
Should be interesting though. I want to see if I can push this.

If this works lol I'm going for 950 core hahahahaah.

This gets better all the time!! :D For pushing the system to the limit you'll probably need some additional cooling, especially with the voltage increase on the CPU as well... this heats up like crazy, but if you can keep it cool enough you might be able to beat some of the old top scores!

    Cheers!!

950 core should be possible. Try 75mV for the cpu so your not throttling. If you see a big drop in fps ot May be cpu throttling. run a cpu temp monitor during the bench. If your hitting 94+ back down the cpu voltage.

AH awesome tip man for 3d mark 06. I'll be sure to try that one out.

Aight guys this is it one more bench run ..... just as I was typing on the last combined test the notebook SHuts OFF
That was on 950 core as well. Ah dammm it sooo close to completing the run too! :(

Damm AC Power adapter tripped out on me. Oh I was so close ehehehe.

    Cheers. :)

Back it down to 940. For 3dmark06 i think you May be able to use the 150mv and still have sonera bedroom on the heat. Monitor it to make sure.

For 3dmark11 drop the cpu OC down a bit. Maybe less voltage or TDP.

When you start increasing the voltage and pushing the clocks to the limit the whole benching is like a balancing act... you want to push it as hard as possible, but you still need enough power, and the heat dissipation has to be handled as well....

But you're doing great, you'll have some killer scores once you managed to find the proper settings and keep the temps low enough.

    Thanks Guys! :D

    Great tips all round.
That's enough for now. It's crashing too much now, I'll try again next time.

I picked up some extra points in 3d mark 11 this round which was cool!
I wonder where I'll sit in the standings once DR calibrates through all the scores LOL!
Thanks again DR! for managing the leader board scores.

    Cheers. :)

So any luck with 3d Mark 06 and the 6970s? Or are you having the same issues iChime had man?

    Cheers. :)

Havent run 3dmark06 yet. Don't think it'll be any different than the 5870s since its so cpu bound. 3dmark11 I've hit 7009 without cooling. The issue Im seeing is all psu related now. If i was able to use the 330w I would be able to do so much more. I Havent even come close to the gpu clock limits. 7009 was with the gpu core at 780mhz.
