cards run much cooler than my old 5870's never cross 76 degress during benchmarks with that clocks.. cpu is another story as you can see from the screenshot, lol!

also i keep the card @715/1000 0.96V for every day use and it is hard to see them crossing 70 degrees

I just received my replacement m17x R3 so I join you.
I couldn't get the 69xx series as I came from xps 1645 with throttling issues, but I guess I'm already kind of a lucky boy ^^.

Here are my 3d mark 06 scores with my 2630qm and 6870 at stock and 875/1215 (artefact free).

I'm new in the alienware world, could you tell me if those scores look normal ?

we already know the 580m beats the stuffing out of the 6990M at vantage, but what about any other test?

they dont seem to do well at those right?
gaming benches are up in the air of course...they trade back and forth on those.

would love to see some other test with your setup.

Can anyone check there adapter, is it a Delta or Flextronics? Just got a new one today lol

 

Usually I use the atiflash utility to flash the cards. I'm not one for software overclocking generally, but I'll have to try it out to see if it will maybe allow me to overclock.

I'm pretty sure that I'm doing it correctly, since I was able to get up to 900/1200 with my faulty xfire 5870's at 1.15v.....and I'm doing it the same way as before through atiflash. When I open up GPU-z, I'm getting the reading that the cards are indeed overclocked, but they just black screen. I'm sure that the cards are seated correctly as well since they work fine under stock clocks and voltage. The heatsink has the pin mod done to it and the temps only get up to about 68C when gaming under load.

Anyway, thanks all for the advice, I'll keep trying new things to see if I can get them to go any higher than stock. If not, I guess I have a bad bunch of cards when it comes to overclocking!

 

Question: Has anyone here actually tried a 330W PSU on an M17x R2? Reason I ask is because 18x users I've read have tried the 240W and not gotten an error message or incompatibility message. Making me wonder if it would be running the same code to the computer. Perhaps a generic Dell ID code.

Picking up my R2 in an hour. Dell was pretty quick. Vantage wait to mess with it new 5870s and a new mobo probably

i just got through running heaven dx11 benchmark, and my gpu was a scorching 90-95c.. its overclcocked to 780 gpu, 1200 memory, i dont have the money for repaste just want to know if anyone on here has had similar temps..

 

The hottest my 6990 got under max stable overclock (830/1140 ish) was about 75 C. From what I've seen, the 6990's run a bit hotter too, so yes yours was very hot. Don't overclock as much or put in some better cooling/paste, etc...

 

Well my system made it back. Only had a few small scratches on the screen and palm rest. And i got lucky. There were only three lose screws on the fan of the slave gpu.

Called Dell and they are going to escalate it. Not sure what that means, probably npthobg ad far as Im concerned. However, they are sending me a new screen, new palm rest, indicator cover, fan, and a bench of extra screws on case i find some missing ones. Best part is they are not sending a tech out. All me. The guy was really helpful on the phone too. Once its all together it'll finally be back to the way it should have been. Prestige.

Then I can do some serious gaming once the 6970s get here.

i was thinkin about it and thats what i think to.. its got the stock paste on it... im gonna get some arctic silver 5 past as soon as get some money and repaste the cpu and gpu

 

And remember between game and game that i'm waiting for you to dethrone me

about gaming, you will have a lot of fun, this 2 cards really double fold the 5870's and put them away in gaming

 

Haha. I want to dethroned you, just don't want to kill the cards lol. But Im playing Tom Clans Hawx right now. I really love this game. Max settings, 19x12 DX10. I want to get Hawx 2, but don't know if it was ever released for PC.

Once done benching, Im definitely following your lead and undergoing. I like cool. Plus unless Im benching, i never overclock. Always run stock clocks.

Nice! Thanks. Im definitely getting it from steam when ever i get internet in my apt. Stupid Verizon workers are on strike. Waited three weeks to get it installed Monday. Now they say they don't know when it'll happen At least i have some dvds and games.

 

Mmmm i have hawx2,

I believe that hawx (1) is better. I didn't like hawx2 as i liked the first one. Also it is not possible to play it without an internet connection, even for single player mode.

i purchased it on steam.

About overclock i only keep the cards @715/1000 and 0.96 volts... really i don't feel it like overclock, but i like round numbers (and why AMD released the 6970's with this wierd clock....?)

 

get some IC DIAMOND 7.it droped 7-8 degrees my 6970m.its the best paste out there!!!

 

i would pick some of that up but my cousin gave me some arctic silver 5, he had some 3.5 gram syrenges ;eft from he, how much will a 3.5 gram syrenge do, and when i repast the gpu do u need to get new thermal pads, or keep the stock ones.. this computer is only 2.5 months old

IC DIAMOND 24 is better. more synthetic diamond for more efficient heat transfer.

 

^^^^ agreed, just repasted yesterday and saw almost 10c difference in max temps.

 

Holy cow, that is some result! I'm in the process of buying an R3 with a 6990m and Killer card looking to optimising everything. Seems IC Diamond is a go the MX-4 has lost it's place in Alienware users' hearts

 

plus it was free, can't beat that!

Great news, the grocery store across the st from my new apt sells dice for $1.09/lb yay! Made my day!! We were grocery shopping when i saw that. Kinda stumbled on it.

Nope, Once I get internet at home I'm suppose to contact him to work a little with him. I know he wanted me to help on his site, a benchmarking section. I told him several weeks back I'd get with him when I had more access to the internet. Did it right before my wedding and move. Now Verizon FiOS is on strike so who knows when I'll get internet Waited 3 weeks for an install (supposed to be today) and friday I was called saying they will call me when they have a date available. At this point it could be weeks before I even get another date.

Oh, Good news, my 6970's made it back to Clevo, should be hearing back from Phektan soon on them. Hoping they get sent out soon and make a quick trip back home.

I have started doing some benchmark using 3DMark11 and got a total score of X1030. It seems pretty bad. I have attached Pics of the result and also some computer info as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
