Have you got the latest version of vantage? Make sure you go into the options and select PPU disabled. Your nvidia Physx inflates the CPU score tremendously thus providing biased scores.

Got a lower CPU which affected my scores a bit I think, I'll get screenshots later. After a repaste with ICD24 during the benchmarks on the overvolted vbios, the max temp recorded using GPU-z was...wait for it...70C! Tried cranking the clocks to 850/2000 and things crashed but at 822/2004 (reference 560 Ti speeds) I got a GPU score of around 17.4K which is pretty good I think.

    Hey guys,

I got my m17x r3 two days ago and got scared after system reading the GPU as hd6970m instead of hd6990m which I ordered, but people said that it was allright because the system only cant read the card properly and since my clocks were 715/900 and I had 1120 unified shaders so it should be fine.

I ran some benchmarks on it and wanted to compare them to other hd6970m and hd6990m to get some easier sleep during the night, but I cant seem to get the search button to work, so could you perhaps tell me how these scores compare? I dowloaded the basic software and ran the basic benchmarks, did no modification.

    3DMARK Ventage: P13849 3DMarks
    3DMARK 11: P3450 3DMarks

here is rest of my config:

Intel Core i7-2720QM processor (2.20 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.30 GHz)
320 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
    4 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz (2 DIMMs)
    2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 6990M
    Killer Wireless-N 1103 a/g/n 3x3 MIMO
    17.3 inch Wide FHD (1920 x 1080 60Hz) WLED Display
    9 Cell Battery

btw: it also happened to me that I ran the benchmark for the second time, right after installing the Ventage and got scores that were like a half of what they are now, I restarted and it went back to normal, so I hope its nothing to worry about

    Thanks!

EDIT: just to confirm, when I ran CPU-Z I found out my memory to run at 664,6MHz instead of 1333MHz, but that should be fine since its dual memory (2x2gb) right? Im sorry for this many noobish questions!

James those scores look about right. As for the memory, 666*2=1333 ;)

CptXabaras - I'm coming back in the next week or so to reclaim my titles :D Going to try and undervolt/overclock my cards, to try and mitigate power supply issues.

And here i have in my room an oversized HVAC unit that can bring room temps around 16 degrees :D quite cooler than when i was at home and plus i don't have my wife here to complain about the room being too cold :D

After your try, i'll give another run (at least i want break the 24k mark on vantage, and aim for 8000 in 2011.. the latter being the hardest to get of the 2 ) ;)

Yea, especially the CPU temps. The big thing with these setups is fighting the PSU. GPU temps are not the issue. CPU can be pushed harder in Vantage then 3DMark11. In 3DMark11, the big thing is the combined test since it stresses our PSUs too much. :(

Reminds me, I need to compare my GPU temps. Also need to order some new paste and pads.

I'm getting throttling when power consumption goes above 250-260w for a length of time, its not psu related as I had the same problems with one psu playing the power hog also known as crysis with an overclocked cpu.

Something on the motherboard or bios seems to periodically check the power usage and throttles it for maybe 10 second and then the power usage slowly goes back up but it totally ruins the benchmark run :(

And yes no sweat for the gpus as I had them undervolted @ 1.05v, we just need to find out what is slowing the power supply down

I think he is getting a feel for the cards so he can get the right balance of cpu and gpu, as the power shortage is really quite crippling with the 6990s

You guys are with right :p

I've been working on it slowly. Just vantage for now. My score is between Kenny and Cpt. I just really have not had the time. Im hoping to make time this coming week. But the 6990s with the extra shaders are definitely power hungry when it comes to benching. Been slowly working up the clocks. Didn't get the clocks very high yet.

Note that he has about 120 MHz/core advantage on me when I had my 4870s so he better beat me. Still need to bust that CPU out of its shell, I still got you there!

What cards is he using? I lose detail on my phone if I zoom in. :( Won't be able to check soon cuz i have to drive back to Va after Im done here in OH.

Scook would have love to see what you could do with 5870s. Just saw another post and looks like that's what he's using.

Well , I don't have a freezer , and my adapter's breaker just had flipped on me twice , so until I get another one with the inverter board to squeeze out 480W , I'll just leave the best CPU Record to you , scook. I have no idea but my Adapter now is going " reeeeeeek " on me . Maybe I let her retire soon

Ya with my 4870s overvolted and the 1.5V on the CPU I was able to get to 250W in no time. Adapter did not like that haha. And the 4870s were friendlier on the PSU than the GTX 280m's were

Yesterday i've tryied a run, for the first time my psu tripped. Badly. Blue ring was off, had to disconect it from the socket and had to reset cmos to restart the machine. Now for a week or so i won't be able to do anything, i have a lot of job to do. As soon as i can i'll give it another try, but i sense that i've been already really close to a limit when i did my score.

Now i'm wondering about one thing. At home i have 110V on the sockets, here were i am is 220V. Could this play someway on the PSU? My PSU never tripped like this before. Ah, my battery was installed also

Haha, yea I guess I'll have to add a new catagory in the leader board. Who'da thought? And for the 5870's, as far as overclocking goes, 800MHz isn't even the tip of the iceberg on that cards potential. With the right setup, you could probably hit 17K overall. Easy.

no I doubt the different voltage affects your psu's capability as it would trip based on power output not input (well that how I would design a psu anyway)

The PSU should actually run more efficiently at 220V vs 110V input
