The bus interface should not make a difference as neither of these cards can saturate it. You would need a dual GPU card with 2 high end GPUs for the bus to become a bottleneck

Thanks, I am confused though on why there would be cards with 1120 shaders out there...

They may have dropped it to 960 later in the design process to improve yield and drop price?

yep the cores are different and like scook say they may srink the card to save money or lower the TDP

i already try to flash ichime bios to mine and that don't unlock the card the only thing i can say is those ES 6970's are gold if some one can get their hands on one of those they are lucky

i posted earlier in that thread that eurocom straight up read me an internal email regarding them getting 6990M ES March 7, 2011. But that was quite a bit after (EDIT: Tirenz) getting his 6970

Called and asked why I still don't have my 6970 in hand and the guy was like "oh hold on I just got 2 emails about it" and proceeded to read them aloud.

ichime the string in the inf only reads 6900 series (thus what it says in GPU-z), is the device id the same as the retail 6970s? Maybe it is a 6990 ES afterall

I think that's the name when I use the official 11.2 or 11.4 drivers. Even HWinfo reports it as a 6970M.

I think this should be called the 6970M XT or something...

I figured this was the most appropriate place for this. My CPU scores have been lower than usual lately, so I checked out the task manager. The moment I begin a benchmark, many instances of 'FMSISscan.exe' and 'Conhost.exe' begin running. Is this normal for all of you, too?

That's pretty close to what I get with an OC'd 6970M in an R3 with an entry level SB processor. Damn these 6970M's are powerful.

Yes they are, that makes the M17x R3 acceptable with 1 GPU ;)

I would be perfectly happy if someone offered me an R3 for my R1 (Assuming of course I got the specs I want)

Yup from my tests so far, the 6970M is equivalent to 4870M Crossfire in performance and is overall about 15% slower than 5870M Crossfire in most DX9/10 games but matches the 5870M Xfire in DX11. The M18x is going to be a monster with two of these cards.

06 is heavily CPU dependant, the further you push you CPU, the better the score will be

Vantage is much more GPU dependent and reflects an overclock on the gpus very well

PCMark is mostly a CPU/RAM/Storage benchmark with little influence from the graphics card

I don't have any experience with Vantage and the arrandale/clarksfield/lynnfield cpus unfortunately so can't tell you about the CPU speed stuff

As for changes in score, there will be fluctuations due to thing running in the background on your OS. The 3DMark benches are sort of known for being inconsistent

12371 In 3DMarks Vantage. Seems low to me, compared to the numbers I've seen thrown out there. I haven't altered anything, just wanted to run it the way it is. Does this seem low for my specs? CPU = 20568.8 GPU = 10921.23. I did shut down stuff in the sys tray, but that was all. Since I don't bench much, I don't know all the lil tweaks, thats probably common knowledge amongst most of you.

Try different drivers would be my first suggestion. Try older drivers as well. I have had quibbles with 11.1 and 11.2 drivers. I would suggest you guys try 10.10 to 10.12 drivers.

Here is the link to the 10.12 drivers:

Download ATI Catalyst Mobility 10.12 Software Suite Vista/7 64-bit | techPowerUp

One of the problems is uninstalling the 11.1 / 11.2 drivers can be tough. I would suggest restoring the pc before you installed the 11 series drivers if possible.

Otherwise I recommend doing this for uninstalling the drivers:

    1) Add/remove programs and uninstall catalyst drivers the conventional way. Don't restart yet.
    2) delete ati/amd folders in c:/program files and in user/appdata/local, appdata/local/low, and in user/appdata roaming folder.
*to see the appdata folder make sure you can view hidden file types by clicking on the Organize tab, then folder and search options, then click on view tab, then click on the "show hidden files" circle option.
    3) Then run driversweeper. Don't restart yet.
    4) Then right clock on my computer, select properties, then go to device manager. On display adapters right click on the display adapter(6970m or whatever you have), select properties, then click the driver tab, and then click the uninstall button. A windows appears to confirm uninstall, and make sure to check the little box that says "Delete the driver software for this device."
    5) restart, then try the 10.10 to 10.12 drivers and see if you get a performance boost.

So I'm running the Unigine benchmark and it seems to only run/detect my Intel IGP not my GTX 460m

I'm getting about 5fps and at the end it's sais in the system info unknown gpu 256mb

I'm pretty sure the 460m is well over 256mb.......

Does anybody know how to run benchmarks correctly?? Same thing happened with 3D mark 11. In my Nvidia control panel I added the program to run the GPU but I'm still getting the same results.

Uhmm.. as I announced in my "thoughts thread," I will be getting a replacement cuz of the scratched lid. So if you could provide me instructions on how to run various benchmarks (list of programs, instructions on how to run it, etc.), I'd be glad to run anything before I reformat this and send it back to Dell.

    Thx!

I'm getting low results with my m17x R2 loaded with i7 720QM, 2x HD 5870 CF, and 6 GB RAM at 1333. System uses the latest dell drivers, latest bios and vbios and it's not overclocked.

Are these results normal ? or there is something wrong here...tho the system is very stable and runs crysis 2 in full details at 1440x900 very well.

Yes PowerPlay work if your flash your vbios with higher clocks.

If you overclock your GPU with Rivatuner, powerplay will be disabled and your GPU will be always at 3D clocks

Nothing seems to work. I get an error and it says "ROM not erased" Anyone know how I can get around this?

    Thanks guys, +rep.

I ended up figuring it out before I read your responses. Not sure if the unlock would have worked, I think it might have, but I just flashed the cards using ATI Winflash. Was a pain because I had to swap the slave into the master slot to get it to work, but both are unlocked now.

Makes me wonder if Dell is starting to put the lock down on thier cards
