    No-one pushes their 2920/2960XM at all here (M17x), it's rather dry :/

4.4Ghz all cores is a good place to start Slick. :)

And then 4.5Ghz if you can. Ho ho ho :D

    4.6Ghz.

its getting hot here where I live and with me being on campus almost everyday its hard to find time for OC-ing. Besides I still have trouble getting the heat down. Tried to scatter the IC 24 paste with credit card but failed since it is very sticky. I instead put a thin line in the middle and it is still somewhat the same.

long, put the IC diamond tube into a ziplock and then put it into some hot water. This will make it more workable. Try that

i don't know anything about overclocking, i'm just going to leave it stock

Trying to spread ICD will be a fail because it is soo thick. The line method should be fine. What are your temps?

@Slick an XM at stock?!?!?!? Blasphemy!!! Hint hint: A few guides in sig...

    Step 1: Download XTU 2.1
Step 2: Open and set multipliers at 40/40/40/40
    Step 3: Restart

It's easier than adjusting the turbo settings -_-'

Edit - Ahhhhhhhh, you were being sarcastic Slick!

hmm i tried again with RAGE, Deus Ex and Mass Effect 1 and it can get as high as 88*C on core 1 (86,86,83) and 87 on cpu package, but when i alt tab to windows the current temp is around 79-80*C. I set mine at 40/39/37/37 like you guys said.
Is there any like chart like software that I can track the temperature of the CPU? the core temp gadget is too small.

@slickdude: should I do that? Oh wow you got a XM too? Congrats man :D

I do the same line method i did before, only a bit less paste and I didnt put as much pressure on it.

edit: played mass effect, FEAR 3 coop for an hour and the temp is never above 77 (72, 71, 70 for the 3 other cores). I'm hoping the paste is taking its time to stretch out :p

hahahaha...i was being sarcastic guys!! lol

ya, just picked up an 2920XM. It was pulled from a m18x so it should be solid for OC'ing

Long: If i were you, i'd take whatever is left on your ICD7 tube and give it away...then go and get yourself either some PK-1, mx-4 or OCZ freeze. Much easier to work with and dare i say, better temps than ICD7

aye I was half way there but still many people here do use ICD 24 so I don't know. But I'm close to running out of paste already so the next one I get will surely be PK-1 :D

Your Vantage GPU score is dead on at stock settings, but your CPU is a bit light for a 2860QM (36-35-33-33), which can ordinarily deliver about 22,000+. You may need to increase TDP (Short Duration Power Limit) and the Short Duration Time Window and disable Long Duration Power Limit in the BIOS, which has been covered extensively in this forum.

i had a 460m before i upgraded to the 6990m my best score is pictured below, and i bet you can easily beat it with that 560m if you overclock it. ;)

ive been away from the benching scene for a while ( as noted by the last links in my sig...) should i be expecting roughly the same performance out of the 560 as the 460? if i remember correctly i was getting close to those scores with a single 5870 and a 740 in my r2

from what i understand, a 460m clocked at 800/1600/1500 is equivalent to a stock 560m. I didn't know what your processor was, but at stock speeds with that 2860, you should be able to blow that score away easily. :)

im gonna be on a 2670 for a while, that cpu was quoted as part of my m15x replacement( i had 820qm) but they were trying to only give me 6870gpu ( i had the 5730) so i sacrificed the 2860 for the 560M. but i got a new machine out of the deal, off a m15x that was purchased from the outlet for $800 so i cant complain.

that being said, is there a reason to get 1866 Ram for this thing, and is it even compatible with the 2670? i ask because i want the best possible HW combo i can before getting my OS tweak on =)

no reason to get 1866 ram...some people have reported issues with it running at 1866. 1600 seems to be ok. But seeing how there is virutally no peformance difference between 1866 and 1333, i've stuck with 1333

i found in the R2 that i was able to attain higher Cpu clocks with the higher clocked RAM, i would assume that since the only method of overclocking a NON-XM cpu was bclk adjusting. am i correct in assuming that we only have a very small adjustment window with our BCLK on non XM cpus maybe 5% or so?

i also found i was able to get higher 3d06 scores with the 1333 ram in the R2 that was being pushed ( obv not a huge difference, but like 20-50 pts difference over 5-7 tests) i was hoping to see a larger increase since we have availability to get our Ram clocked somewhere around 1900mhz with a slight BCLK adjustment. every point counts =)

that's correct Clever, you only have about 5% room. If you raise your bclk beyond 105, you're heading for bsod city.

Its much better to increase your max turbo tdp to keep your 2670 turbo high. You can do this easily with XTU 2.1. You turbo, although advertised at 3.1ghz (1 core) will only run about 2.9ghz 1core and with 4 cores, you're probably looking at about 2.4-2.5ghz. Intel's turbo 2.0 has tons of factors that regulate what turbo speeds you'll achieve. You can stress your CPU with something like prime95 (8 threads) and monitor your mhz with hwinfo64. You'll see what i mean.

if you have issues doing this, we can help you with it

If its similar to the XTU we used on the m17 then i should be able to get it right. no more Throttle stop to raise the TDP? also am i going to run up against throttle like the 580M in my 560M?

No throttle on the 560m. Throttlestop is a good monitoring tool and it also allows the TDP to go way above 99w.

all nvidia cards have the throttle if you hit 78C, but the 560m should never hit those temps. ;)

Clever, throttlestop did not work in my experience with a non-xm processor. I've tried with a 2630 and a 2820. Both times, only XTU worked. You have to first enable overriding the turbo settings in the bios

ultimately, if your temps get up high enough, you will throttle in the 560 just like in the 580...however, the 560 runs much cooler, so its much harder to do

First off, congrats on your system Clever!!

Your 560m has a lot of overclocking room. So you have a lot more life in it. you should be able to pump it up another 15-20% conservatively

    Nice scores!

Alright guys. I finally sucked it up. I went all the way back in the thread till November 16th, 2011, the date of the last update I had done. I scrubbed everything (743 total posts  I was a little behind) till now, and have updated the leaderboards accordingly. Sorry for the delay, as I got sucked into Folding@home and was busy with that and constantly editing the F@h thread. I'm thinking I may asthetically change this threads leader boards once I get some more time, as I learned quite a bit while redoing the F@h thread.

You can commence your continued competitive benching. :D

How to flash your RAM to 1866Mhz

Note: Make a backup first! I am not responsible if things fubar. RAM can be easily flashed back if you use a 1333Mhz stick with the already flashed one, as both sticks will run at the lowest possible speed, allowing you to flash back to stock.

    1. Buy Thaiphoon Burner Thaiphoon Burner - Official Support Website for £18.43

    2. Download the Corsair Vengeance 1866Mhz improved *.thp: profile http://softnology.biz/work/CMSX8GX3M2A1866C10.zip

    OR

Download the Kingston HyperX 1866Mhz *.thp profile http://www.mediafire.com/?zanp2rrf6vflcog

The Corsair has slightly better timings, but the difference is too small to notice. If the Corsair is not stable use the HyperX profile. I personally use the HyperX profile for full stability.

    3. Open Thaiphoon Burner;
    a. Click Read, then the first option in the dropdown.
    b. Click Write;
    i. Select Load SPD dump from file and select the downloaded profile you got from step 2.
ii. Select Write to all SPD EEPROM Devices
    iii. Hit Write and restart!

I tried CL9 but my laptop didn't boot. Had to put in a 1333Mhz stick to flash them back to stock Corsair 1866 one by one.

I think GeoCake has a 560m, I could also lend him my 2630QM and you guys can duel away. Also @clever, next time when you post benchmarks, please include a breakdown such as the individual test scores in '06, separate CPU and GPU scores in Vantage and separate Graphics and Physics scores in '11 :)
