Hey guys. I've been using my R3 for 3 days now since the GPU and CPU were replaced as per my original order. I thought I'll try running the benchmarking program just to see where it is at. The scores are:

    PCMark Vantage - 9439
    3DMark Vantage - P14820
    3DMark11 - P3524

I really dont have any idea on what's good or not as I haven't really tried any of this before. Before as long as I can use the laptop for games, then that's good for me.

Now, since I am using an AW and I thought it has a pretty decent reputation about gaming and benchmarks (based on what I have read), I thought I should give it a try.

Comparing my scores against the scores from the 1st page, my scores are pretty low  I know it depends on the setup/specs. But what do you think guys? If you think its low for my specs, what do you think is wrong?

    Thanks in advance!

Your 3dMark11 and 3dMark Vantage scores are exactly what you would expect with your setup at stock clocks. The scores you see on the leaderboard (Page 1) are all the result of extreme overclocking, often with modified components. All is well. :)

Guys. I got my M4, fresh installed windows on it and downgraded bios from A10 to A08.

I run a test on the M4 and here is the result:

Why are my scores on the "write" column almost just half of the "read"?
I just noticed that most of the test scores posted here are kind of balance.

    Thanks.

Btw, how do you guys embed just the thumbnail?

I'm thinking if the 7970s are priced decent, selling my 5870's and 6990s on ebay, I can get a pair of 7970's. Just need to find out if they will work in the R2 lol.

what is the mxm slot in the R2? 3.0? what is your power brick wattage?

I didn't need any special mods to get it to work in the R3, it was just trying to install the drivers that was a pain. All current production drivers will not work with the 7970m.

Ahh, I believe it's MXM 3.0. I know the 6990s work on it. The 7970 may need some bios flashing to undervolt, but that should be easy enough. the PSU is rated at 240W, but can go higher, although too high and throttling will occur. The fact that it works in the R3, and power consumption is the same, gives me hope the R2 will take it. Especially since there are no changes to the layout so the heatsink from the 5870s/6990s can be used.

Is the 7970 a smaller die? If it's not a smaller die, then I think it may draw too much power for the R2. Slick Do you by chance have wattage draw numbers of the 7970 vs. the 6990? If I can get them working in the R2, that would make the R2 a continued living beast! Even undervolted, can you imagine how the R2 would bench in Vantage? It would be sick! Probably worth selling the 5870s and losing my warranty :p

As far as drivers, That can always be modded with the device ID so they will install if I'm not mistaken.

The power draw on the 7970 is up to 100w.

There is a cool turbo feature on these cards that will overclock them...something similar to intel turbo boost 2.0...upto 100w

As far as drivers, there are hacked drivers now at benchmark3d that support the 7970m. Regular inf mods didn't work with any official amd drivers from 12.1 to 12.3...i'm currently using heavily modded 12.5.

There are new strings in the inf that are different for the 7900m's

I will be using my Nvidia heatsink with it, and a correct AMD backplate. Hope it all goes well.

the 7970 is about as good as it gets for the witcher2...my test was the mieletes heart (sp?) mission. Running around in the forest outside the walls and inside the city..

Killing monsters in the forest, i'm getting 45-55fps...occasionally dropping to high 30's but i've never dropped below the magical 30fps mark. In other words, SMOOTH gameplay. This is not a scientific test, but the 7970m has allowed me to enable bloom, depth of field and a few other effects that i had to shut off with my 6990 to create a playable framerate

1080p, everything enabled except for uber sampling

The problem with early adoption is you have zero app and driver support lol...the drivers we are using are slapped together. GPUz doesn't work. It was suggested to pull the vbios out using atiflash and a bootable usb, but I'll leave that to GEO when he gets his card.

if it is consistent with the desktop 7900's, vbios is not moddable because the catalyst driver blocks it. There will be lots more coming I'm sure ;)

That's a shame for R2 users wanting an undervolt and a shame for us R3 users that it can't be overvolted. Still, I am not complaining. :p

i'm still sure that someone will come up with something...maybe someone can circumvent the catalyst driver blocking vbios mods.

ATI has implemented their own overclocking scheme though. I wish i had a real working driver lol

    if a single 7970m is 6000 in 3dmark 2011
    x-fire 7970m = 11500!? thats about 100% more power
I know crossfire is scaling well but not that much though lol :)
That looks like iced ehh oc'ed. When will we see screens of that monster?
