Well done mate! How was the installation like? What heatsink are you using? Seems like awesome temps @ 3dmark11, woud be cool if we could see them @ vantage for the gpu :p

Ah I see that's the draw back of modded drivers. When your GPU is running full load, what does the PCIe reading of GPUz read?

I've replaced my GPU so many times so it feels like another daily task, so quite easy. I am using an Nvidia 580M heatsink with the extra copper, despite what happened to graz'zt, I just increased padding where it needed increasing and decreased padding where it needed decreasing, etc. I ramp my fans to max when benchmarking, max GPU temp for Vantage was 58C (heatsink warming up, etc). Personally I think I could have padded better, I don't know. But the AMD heatsink is probably easier to set up.

    widezu, GPU-Z reads:

But it is quite broken as you've noticed. :p

Thats it, I'm putting all my stuff up for sale tonight in the Marketplace. I gotta get my hands on a pair of these for the R2...Long live the beast.

BTW, the NBR Marketplace rules say nothing about kidneys... :D

Thanks G! It looks like it is PCIe 3.0 x16 running at x8 (PCIe 2.0) speeds. Doesn't make that much of a difference for mobile cards as they don't come close to saturating the bandwidth but good to know.

Shame there aren't any more GPUs left. I guess it's a good thing preventing me distraction so I can finish my dissertation :)

It could maybe explain why AMD's Vantage benchmark is higher?
Since Vantage is very bandwidth hungry, but 2000 points higher because of this? Hmmmm.

    AMD Radeon HD 7970M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

AMD's 3DMark11 benchmark however, is very accurate to mine...

Write dissertations and sell kidneys.. there's still plenty of time left till Trixx support arrives! >:]

Yeah I guess it's to do with frames. In Vantage, frame rate is high and the bandwidth is bottlenecking rather than GPU power. In '11, bandwidth is not the bottleneck so performance is similar.

Shouldn't be any noticeable difference in gaming :)

I can't wait till we get some Trixx support (I have been e-mailing the author asking him nicely to add support asap) so we can *hopefully* get to stock desktop GTX 580 speeds. Sweet Jesus :O

Oh I love being an Alienware owner so much. ;)

    i have brightness control...

GEO, now that you have the card, you can help me OC the damn card

    Things that i ahve tried:

I tried to get OVERDRIVE to appear in CCC...no luck

After cats 12.2, ati removed 2 dll's that third party OC programs need...SO, we added it back and modded the inf. Reinstalled the drivers...no luck

Tried to manually increase MSI AFTERBURNER overclock limits via registry mod. This worked before...but with the 7970m...no luck. Currently Afterburner's max limit is the stock 850/1200 speed of the 7970m. Hence no OC'ing possible yet

tried ATI Tray Tools after adding back the dll's in the driver. It installed, but on the OC menus, the limits are too low and registry mod isn't working (when it did for previous versions of cards)

Tried pulling the vbios via 2 methods...no good.

The new Sapphire Trixx released yesterday doesn't support the 7970m yet

    GAWD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The vbios on the 7970's are very different unfortunately...but we have a modded vbios now with 900/1250 clocks (from 850/1200 stock). Geo and I are just too chicken to install it lol

    Yep, exactly.

Though it seems the desktop 7000 series VBIOS isn't modding friendly at all. Only way to find out whether it's going to work is flashing it.

depending on your bios...you should be able to recover by booting in sg mode, then reflash the bricked card...that's the short side of the story.

    HAHA Thanks guys! :D
I'm a bit lazy these days in terms of benching, however the weather is starting to get a bit cooler now so I thought ah perfect timing. Plus with all these 7970M GPUs about to descend down upon us I better get some old school 6990M runs in 1st lol :p The Chief is struggling to get even close.....a work in progress though!
Time to try and get back into DR's amazing TOP 5 :p ;)

It sure feels like something is holding me back though atm. My clocks are similar to the guys in the top 5 but they are breaking 7k with ease lol  :p
I can't quite put my finger on it atm. I'm getting closer with Vantage though.

The London games are about to kick off in a few months. We should have a BENCHOLYMPICS as well LOL hahaahah :D :p

FoXXY its time to give the R2 some Luvin again! Looking at the R2s amazing screen after such a long time, it really does still blow me away lol.

    Cheers. :)

    EDIT: WooT!!! :D

    Cheers. :)

Not wrong there REV ;)
I just need to find a way to tap into it now.

    I would SURE love to see a 26k Vantage and 8k 3d Mark 11 :p :D

    Cheers. :)
