If you can enable it:
download XTU version 2.1 to increase your tdp limits and overclock your BCLK to something conservative like 103.5
You want to set your maxx turbo tdp to 57w. You will only use 52-53w, but you have to set it to 57w because of some vDroop.
This will keep your turbo running at maxx forever so you should be seeing 3.5 - 3.7ghz on vantage. -
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
Now download XTU version 2.1...
go to manual tweaking
Increase BCLK to 103.5, increase your maxx tdp to 57w (bottom right)...SAVE
Your CPU is 45w tdp maxx. So it will not exceed that in the long term. You have short term and long term as you saw in your bios. SO in the short term, you will be running at 56w (hence your turbo speeds are higher) but after that period of time is over (as specified in seconds in your bios), the tdp will drop to 45w so your turbo speed drops.
However, if you maintain a higher tdp for the long term, then you will have higher turbo speeds forever. This is great for benching. You don't need to do this for gaming because you will get much better fps by overclocking the GPU -
slick, u sure 57 is enough for long period? my cpu maxxes out at over 60w, for example. only 65 long/75 short didnt bring any turbo improvements anymore...

57w is what i need to do for my 2820. Your 2860 might require a tad more but on paper, it shouldn't. They are both 45w cpu's afterall
What speeds are you achieving right now under load? A good way to check is to run prime95 (8 threaded mixed test) and have HWINFO running to give you your CPU speeds -
i guess every cpu has its own detail tdp specs when it comes to turbo ^^.
btw, what slick said +1@prime95

same problem here
just bought an M17X R4 with Ivy Bridge i7-3610QM and Radeon 7970M.
P5770 in 3dmark11
Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,Alienware M17xR4 score: P5770 3DMarks
well i said: YES! this laptop runs as fast as my desktop rig with 6950 crossfire :O never seen anything like that, it blows away any other nvidia/ati mobile card.
*BUT*
i get 20fps in Tera and 30fps in WoWi should get at least 100fps with vsync disabled@1600x900..
it can be a problem ati drivers. Right now i'm using: 5/9/2012 A00 8.934.2 Dell AMD Radeon HD 7970M
Please help! Diablo 3 releases this tuesday -
update:
ok solved. I added wow.exe and tera.exe to the list under Catalyst Control Center -> Powerplay -> Commutable graphic cards. I was using intel hd 4000 instead of the 7970M.
now i have 90 fps in Tera at ultra details lol!! -
Seph82... Nice new rig you got there. How about a Vantage run with that bad boy.
Do any of you guys know of a way (without using an external camera) to screen capture without a drop in game/benchmark framerate? I doubt there is any software that can do it since the capture creates a CPU/GPU load, but just curious if anyone has found something.

use a camcorder no?
-
I've tried but Fraps is the best...
dunno why it has to cut GPU performance by like 30%, would be cool if it used CPU only
Anyone else taken their 7970M to 1Ghz? -
I can't
Mine hits the wall @975.
-
I can't too
but happy owner so far
-
you guys are lucky you got to 975, mine stuck at 960
(. I set it at 950/1450 for everyday use, is that too much?
-
Mine gets to 984/1500 (P6632 3dmark11) - 965/1450 for 24/7 use so your 950/1450 is perfectly in line with the rest of the 7970M
-
So 950-1000 seems to be the limit. If only the voltage could be unlocked.
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
mine goes to 1ghz/1.5ghz...i find that dropping it to 995mhz gets me better scores though...weird
-
Consider yourselves lucky you can change clocks at all.
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
-
I ran through it twice, reformatted the computer and ran through it twice more. No change, still just blank unmovable sliders that read 0.
-
Have you disabled the integrated graphics? 'Cause apparently you can do that, dunno how, but you'll need to restart after. An R4 user reported that he could
Maybe try that and test Afterburner again? -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
are you able to see GPUz? does it show you your stock clocks 850/1200?
-
GPU-Z does not run, it just hangs on the splash screen. Other monitoring utilities are showing me the 850/1200 speeds though. Afterburner showed them before I made the changes to allow OCing, then went blank.
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
Are you able to overclock the GPU? -
No I didn't download AB yet
-
Slick do you know if Trixx is coming out with a 7970m version? Do you like AB better and do you mess with voltage? Whats a nice stable OC with AB?
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
afterburner is the only way to overclock the 7970m right now...and even then, its hacking it. There is no official support for the 7970m yet. I used trixx with my 6990m.
A good stable overclock? 950/1375 everyday -
just ordered and my new baby with p150em, i7-3610QM and 7970M should be here at 05/26 latest. -
-
nice.
still, as far as i remember you guys said some (many) pages earlier that memoryclock will have more effect on ingame fps? -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
The upper limit of the dell cards is about 1ghz core/1.5ghz vram + or - a few mhz -
well... sounds fair enough
thx guys! hope the difference between dell and clevo vram OC-potential won't make a bigger difference than max 5fps
can't wait to get my hands on it... will be my first overclock ever -
Hey guys... What are the Arkham Asylum and Arkham City benchmarks looking like with one 7970M? I'd like to see a comparison using similar settings if anyone has time to post it.
It would be cool to see 7970M, 6990M, 6970M and GTX 580M single GPU comparisons. It would give a nice baseline for those thinking about a GPU upgrade.

No OC on Gpu, Cpu 43,41,39,37 http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/4977/capture2ir.png Sorry forgot to put cpu-z on and gpu-z don;t work

Nice scores! -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Vantage CPU score of 25438 suggests something is going on with that 3820QM beyond the stock 35x (3.5GHz) setting or the IB CPU's are more powerful than expected.
-

The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Still, that's pretty remarkable for a QM CPU. I thought QM multipliers were factory-locked and, unlike the XM's, could not be unlocked by an OEM. At least that's the way it has been for the mobile (and most other) i7 QM's prior to Ivy Bridge. Does this also apply to the 3720QM? Are you using the stock R4 BIOS?
Edit: How about running Vantage again at the o/c setting(s) and post the results to 3dMark.com and copy/post the reference address here so we can take a look at the details. +Rep when allowed. -
No way the QM has unlocked multis, can you verify this with Throttlestop?
-
I honestly don't believe it as per my post here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...tu-unlocked-multipliers-qm-3.html#post8515498
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Perfectly logical. But why the charade?
-
-
Is there any way I can take a screenshot of the bios? I'd take a picture of it with my phone but I don't have that thing that plugs into the phone and computer to upload it And I'm not doing a charade ask any other R4 owner.I made an earlier post on how I found the unlocked multis it has a menu just like the M18x with 3 levels of OC the highest is level 3 which only lets you go from 37,36,35,35 to 43,41,39,37
-
The bios options are very good news for those wanting to put an Ivy XM CPU in their R4. However, I just don't think you can change multipliers on a QM, and because it is locked on a hardware level, no software will be able to change that.
Your bios seems to be unlocked already (quite a lot of available settings, the R3 bios was VERY limited in comparison), hence the reason why Intel XTU actually allows you to change values and save them. Even if everything reports that you are running at the set frequency based on the multipilers, you won't because the chip will not allow it. I just don't want anyone to get their hopes up, I may be wrong but I highly doubt that. Still, it's all very interesting regardless.
That's why I asked you to download and run ThrottleStop because it might accurately tell you what multipliers you are running at.
The Vantage GPU score is boosted with AMD powertune, since stock Vantage GPU results vary from 20-22k, well that's my theory anyway. -
ok i downloaded ts now what do i do? Do I have to adjust any settings?
