Cyanide, seeing how the R4's are just shipping with 7970m's, you won't get a real opinion for a long time.

What i can tell you is that the 7970m IS worth the $200. It absolutely demolishes the 580m/675m. It's not close.

That's what I've been hearing as well, just wanted to make sure before I pulled the trigger.

My next question is, will picking an AMD GPU mean I won't have switchable graphics?

the 675m is based on 2 generation old 40nm fermi tech. I can, without any hesitation, recommend a 28nm 7970m OVER the 675m. I'm playing games right now without comprises. It's almost like i'm on a gaming desktop

the 7970m has enduro which is amd's version of optimus. So you are covered

If ups deliver today as promised I might be able to get you those m17x r4 genuine benchmarks with the 7970m and ivy bridge.

They have 1hr to meet their stated -by end of day- deadline. Fingers crossed!

you can use FRAPS to run a fps counter.

    I'm guessing

    5500-5800's 3Dmark11 @ stock with tessellation on
    20-21 vantage

I love the UK and London! Apparently there was a rumor that James Blunt died yesterday. After the rumor came out Blunt tweeted that he wasn't sure if it was true :p but said if it is true, the afterlife looks remarkably like London! :p Score! Can't wait lol

Also can't wait for the benches.

Here's a benchmark for you: brand new 3610/7970m machine standing in Stormwind in WoW at 1080p with all settings maxed and a browser open at 1080p on a second screen = 30 fps.

Any suggestions to improve this would be nice, this is hardly better than my old e2180/9800GT desktop that the M17x is replacing.

Are you sure the 7970m is utilised? Open GPUz when running and see if it is using the iGPU or the AMD GPU.

its that enduro...WoW will fly on a 7970m. I still think that there are tons of issues with Enduro and the 7970m. I'm leaving my integrated graphics shutdown until the whole driver matures

Unless CCC can control the integrated graphics settings, it's using the 7970. How do you disable the integrated graphics entirely? I don't have that option in my BIOS.

troy, you have to wait for an unlocked bios to kill the integrated graphics. This will guarantee that you will be using the 7970m and only the 7970m. Dynamic graphics switching like optimus never worked right. You should be getting 90+fps in WoW with your 7970m

can you run a 3dmark11 bench and tell us your score?

ok, that's 7970m territory. Were you getting that 30fps on Wow with the mod drivers or the original dell drivers?

Both. I get a ~2-3 fps increase with the mod drivers.

Also got P5776 running the benchmarks a second time with nothing else going on, but still sitting on poor WoW performance.

None. Just resubscribed after not playing for years. It's a clean install. Even turning most of the settings way down I still am dipping into 30some fps flying around SW with ~40-45 fps standing still on the bank steps.

You can't compare it like that dude. It's like comparing a a 4 cylinder engine @10000 revs vs a 16 cylinder one @10000 revs.

If by your rational, then a Mobility 5850 clocked @900Mhz is faster than a 580m clocked at 800Mhz but it isn't.

well I just ran my first Vantage, everything is stock.I got a 7970M but GPU-z isn't working.I got this on Wed.I like it a lot except why did they make the printing in the bios so small? Any tips on how to get better performance? Trixx doesn't work either so I can't OC the card and there's not much I can do with the cpu. Can't post a screenshot says "not a valid image" Graphics score was 22330,cpu 24484 3DMark score 22832 Oh I forgot the cpu is a 3820qm

jup those are the standard values for the 45W quadcore model. u can try and raise the long duration to 60, time window to like 45s and short duration to 70W.

should give the cpu turbo boost more wiggling room to work properly. just make sure u keep the cooling in proper working order and the cpu core temps in sight!
