Sata 3 SSD RAID 0 Fancy Cache for the win! haha awesome. Is that used on a regular basis?
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Killer numbers.
-
May as well just make a ramdisk and benchmark it... :|
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
LOL....no, i only use fancycache once in a while...for play only, with SSD's there really is no need for fancy cache. I don't see a difference in realworld
ya, the numbers are very high...they go well above the limits of SATA3 so you know that fancy cache is completely inflating the numbers...but it sure looks nice though
i'm just playing with it. I don't really take much stock in the inflated numbers. Its just for fun

I've used it for about 12 days to test how quickly my games load and I didn't notice too much a difference TBH. It's probably good if you use programs that create a lot of files (like some of the medical software in the clinic I work at) If you have 16 gigs of memory and are not running a virtual machine (or multiple VMs), then you have not much to lose when using this.
There are a few downsides to this though, such as the fact that it doesn't cache system files because RAM loses the data it retains when the system shuts off. So boot times wouldn't change as well as general system responsiveness. Also, RAM is not as stable as an SSD because it's not asked to store things for a long time, so there's always the risk of data loss, though I haven't ran into any data corruption during my use.
A dream scenario would be if you get a mini-PCIe SSD with close to RAM speed combined with something like OCZ synapse software. Then I'm sure things would be noticeably snappier.
I'm going there for med school this fall
Hehehe, my R2 looks like a netbook compared to your and revelator's numbers
-
no i didnt overclock anything !
i checked the GPU, vantage was running on 7970m but y so low score ? -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Lexington is a nice place, not that you'll have much time to enjoy it. Congratulations on your acceptance and future profession.
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
You're getting 10k on vantage with a 7970m? ya, definitely not right.
I bet you its enduro that's causing your headache. Try shutting off the integrated graphics. Try FN + F7 -
Here's my ramdisk.

-
aaaand he DID IT! hail to the chief!
+rep buddy
-
ok i figured out y my GPU gave so low scores
now i got
3d mark 11
P5853
AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3720QM Processor,Alienware M17xR4 score: P5853 3DMarks
and
3d vantage
P21918
AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3720QM Processor,Alienware M17xR4 score: P21918 3DMarks
wat u guys think ?
good or should i get more ? -
everything looks to be in order man! Are you going to OC any time soon?
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Excellent, by friend. What was holding it back? -
Another day another bench LOL!
AMD Radeon HD 6970M / 6990M video card benchmark result - Intel(R) Core(TM) CPU X 920 @ 2.00GHz,Alienware score: P7943 3DMarks

I'm in the same boat as you score-wise, so do tell what you've figured out.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Roll on, Big Chief. But no more Rep until your cross the P8000 boundary. -
Would have liked a higher 3D Mark 2011 score, but not bad for a laptop I guess
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
As a matter of fact, that's not bad for a desktop. Awesome for a single card notebook running at stock clocks. -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
With an overclock, 5800 becomes 6500-6600 3dmark11's
Just to compare, a stock desktop nvidia gtx 570 scores about 5700 -
ya i will do it soon, but currently all games run on ultra settings
, so got no probs
actuallly it was on enduro, eventhough i put it on high performance i gues it was still taking help of the IGP.
how did you manage this much ?
u surely overclocked it right ? but how ?
cz my 7970M should have much higher
if u think smthin is still puttin my performance down pls lemme know
im gna be crossing that with 7970M soon
-
Bring it on, 6951 is the record atm.
-
with a crossfire 6990M config
Sent from my GT-I9001 using Tapatalk 2 -
OK !!!!
so i overclocked 7970M a lil bit
i put
Core Clock: 950 MHz
Memory Clock: 1400 MHz
This is what i got
3D Mark 11
P6426
Graphics Score: 6132
Physics Score: 8697
Combined Score: 6229
3D Mark Vantage
P23681
Graphics Score: 23715
CPU Score: 23582
So what you guys think ?
btw
I didnt overclock the CPU
lol i was so afraid while overclocking
i was thinkin i will damage the hardware !
i used MSI after burner
Slickdude80's thread helped me a loooooooooot !!!!
thanks bro !
i tried putting the core clock to 1505
and the memory clock to 1560
guess what it stays ok but the screen goes off and comes back and says the video card stopped responding or smthn
i put the fan speed really high around 4500 RPM
and the gpus temps was around 48C
so u guys think thats safe
is it safe to overclock alot ?
this is my first time overclocking
whats the safest to overclock too ?
thanks again to slick's thread ! -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Aceleo, you're doing GREAT !!!!
But you might be overdoing it a bit. Please don't exceed 1000 on the core or 1500 on the memory until you are sure that your card can handle it. You don't want to break your new toy. It's better to take small steps. Try 960/1425; if that goes OK, try 970/1450; then 980/1475, etc. until you find the limits. No need to go all-in at the beginning. -
thanks man !
thanks for the info
i soooo love my Alienware M17x !
-
It can overclock quite high for benchmarks, but I'm finding games don't like it so much. Crysis 2 has been such a headache that I finally just went with the stock clocks. It's still quite playable maxed out with DX11 + Hi-res textures.
-
so for everyday hardcore gaming which is stable what is the highest clocks we can push it too?? no plans to use fan cooler...
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
hehehe...1505 core? thats an instant bsod waiting to happen...as soon as you put load on it, it will crash lol
For me I'm stable at 975/1425 for everything...some games will run even higher. BUt that's it. On stock voltage, you really can't expect higher. I can bench 3dmark and unigine heaven @ 1ghz/1.5 ghz.
For everyday gaming, i run 950/1400 because that's more than enough
I can run crysis 2 ultra with high res textures @ 985/1450. Maybe i have a franken card
Really depends on your temps and what you are comfortable with. For me...950/1400 everyday. For benching, 1ghz/1.5ghz -
its different for each card so u cant just give a general answer to that question
OC ur card and test it with games urself, thats the ONLY way to find out what ur card is capable of. period.
-
amazing,learn and try.
-
And try not to burn out your card in the process.
-
Just like others said, you need to test. Every card overclocks differantly.
-
Can you try starting a new campaign with those clocks? I always freeze up when the submarine appears unless I turn the clocks way down.
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
I'm somewhat preoccupied with Diablo 3 at the moment, but i'll do this as soon as I can. My card runs vantage and 3dmark11 @ 1ghz/1.5ghz . i guess i got a good one -
hey bro
im on stock drivers
i followed ur guide of overclocking using msi afterburner
i tried cranking it up to 1ghz core and the 1.5ghz memory
it works fine but just a few seconds after 3d mark vantage (jane nash) starts the screen goes blank
so i had to reset it and im afraid to try again !
is there smthn else which u did ? maybe modded drivers ? -
Not every GPU is the same. Like mine, yours probably can't run that high (at least not on stock voltage)
-
why isnt it same ?
all the number of transistors and everything else is same
the whole architecture is same
how can it not be same ? -
for it to be exactly the same their atomic alignment would have to match perfectly, and im talking EVERY single atom in identical x-y-z position here
thats just not doable, so naturally all cards have their own individual "personality" when it comes to OCing / UVing
-
hmm that makes me wanna cry
i hope my one is not in the lower end of the list ! -
I got up to 965 on 3DMark 11 and 975 on Vantage. I used 1450 memory for both.
-
hmm
gta check these out ryt now ! -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
Well the core from AMD is the same, but the rest is up in the air. Not all cards are the same and will overclock differently.
Geocake probably has the best card so far, he is able to run 3dmark @ 1030 core on stock voltage. I max out at 1ghz core at 3dmark11 -
on 975 core and 1450 memory
3d mark jane nash performed perfectly
and new calico half way thru system hung
!
will it get any better once official drivers come out ? -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
no its not a driver thing. Not all cards will overclock the same. Try vantage again at 965 core
-
ok but i wanna know smthn
this trying again and again at different clocks and makin the computer hang
and having to force reset
will it affect my gpu or processors life
since the hang happens when the gpu cant take it anymore ryt ? -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
no it will have no affect on the long term life of your computer. I mean you will do this today. BUt you're not doing this everyday. -
ok i tried it with 965 and 1450 memory
it got hung again in new calico half way thru
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
Sounds like the only way you will get it stable is if you give your card a slight boost in voltage. Bring it down again to 935 and move your way up
