Well i set vsync on, ultra preset 70 FOV so basically max everything. I was on the (first?) tank mission. Havent tried to turn down AA, dont intend to...
-
BTW:
AFAIK Intel provides overclocking on non extreme and k models but only 4 multis higher than normal.
So x40 is 4 higher than x36 which is normal max turbo boost @ 3720QM
My 3820QM will be up to x41 x40 x39 x39.
3610QM has to get x37 x36 x35 x35.
-> It's not a Dell feature, it is just inplemented in Bios what Intel is providing by it's new Ivy Gen.
But Anyhow the voltage is still to high. Try to set 20 or lower! -
I'll try the overvolted VBIOS tomorrow and do more testing.
-
-
GTRagnarok nice one! What's your temps during Crysis 2 when overclocked?
-
It does make sense so you are probably correct, because you can see the difference between a 3820QM and 3720QM in the Vantage runs..
Flex should be at 0. It's only needed for 4.5Ghz on ALL cores and higher... It tends to produce very high temps when CPU requires that extra voltage. So it's not needed at all. -
no one tried 7970MCF on R2 ?
-

Any news on the R4? -
-
Also just to give you an update, I have done some quick testing with the overvolted vbios (1.075v and 1.1v) with BF3 (1000/1500) and it seems my machine doesn't like it at all as I've got shutdowns with the higher voltage after few minutes.
Got a shutdown also with the 1.125v vbios when running 3dmark11 so I guess I have reached the limits of my card (1030/1500 @ 1.1v only for benchmarking)
I will keep the 7970M @ stock voltage anyway, I think that's more than enough. -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
I can run BF3 Ultra @ 975/1400.
if i bump the ram any higher, its not stable unless i drop the core to 967mhz -
Let me try to lower the VRAM then
-
I thought its a Desktop only feature. But it seems like its also available on mobile too.
Or Intel didn't say that's Desktop only and Dell made it into Alienware Notebooks.
Factory default for Flex VID is 25 whatever that means... That's why i said he should lower it, because Ivy does not need 1,26V for 4GHz
Edit: I linked the Image for mobile OC.
3610QM isnt supportet. So it's really not a Dell feature! Only four CPUs are capable of +400MHz. BLCK should be editable too!
Edit2: It should be editable via Software in Windows! We will see -
Feels like both Clevo and Dell cards aren't good overclockers as their desktop siblings... 950/1400 tends to be the most stable frequency for 24/7. May be Sager cards will show some muscles!
-
thanks guys I havent actually try it like that. I was testing the core clock while setting memory clock at 1500 or 1550 at the time.
-
but I'm sure I can run at least 1000/1400 24/7 stable @1.1v
-
widezu can you try BF3 both campaign and multiplayer just to see if you can run the game at that clock?

I think the temps on my CPU are limiting me right now. As soon as they hit over 85c the turbo steps down. I'm pretty sure I can get better scores, but I don't have the time right now
I did notice that lowering the voltage does indeed help. My guess is that this is temp related. the lower voltage probably heats the cores up less. -
Adding voltage will dramatically increase hear so yea that would be the obstacle. I may need to hook up an external monitor, and keyboard, turn the system upside down, and throw my dice pot on the cpu
That is if I actually ended up getting the R4 if dell hasn't canceled my order yet.

Also I noticed that even tough you can override the pwoer limits in the BIOS, these changed don't seem to work. So that might also be an issue. On the XM these probably do work... -
-
hail to the chief!
now if we could only get the 49 missing points to break P7k with a single 7970M.....
-
Thanks man! I felt a little bored waiting for the 7970Ms so I thought lets run a few quick benches while we wait. lol!
I sure do hope Eurocom can come through for you guys real soon!
Reading Dan's update about the M18xR1 requiring manual fan control was a real let down for me.
It looks like I'll need to get Dell GPUs if I want to upgrade my M18x.

just out of curiosity: do u guys have any kinda leaderboard here?
edit: nvm, missed the second post here -
Good thing I read this thread first - nice to know the 3610qm doesn't have the OC option in the bios
I'll be getting the 3720qm now. -

Nice Chief! I'll update soon. Currently in the process of painting my R2 a Candy White
Keep it up!! Hopefully you can get a run done without throttling!
-
. I wish I could anodize. Would look pretty sharp.
-
The piece is actually removable from the palmrest and my plan is to make it matte black so that it has the same texture as the palmrest. I also cut out the speaker splitter to make it look more like the M11x.
I'm also going to paint the area around the keyboard gloss black to make it look similar to the M17x-R3 and M18x, but I need to get automotive quality paint or it will take forever to fully harden. -
this must be real love, taking care of ur machines like that

I can't wait to see your new paint jobs and what you kingbenchers can achieve with the new 7970M GPUs. Something nice to keep the R2 busy while we wait for the new GPUs ey!
Cheers. -
Forgive me if this has been posted already, I dont have time to scour the thread
Recently posted 'leaked' benchmark of nvidia 680M. Looks very dissapointing compared to 7970M?

I just ran the basic version of 3DMark11 and came up with these scores. My FPS seemed very low in the tests but according to the results I'm in the expected range for my hardware. Is this accurate?
Overall Score

P3278
Physics Score
P6420

Glad to hear everything else is in line. Really debating picking up an R4 even though this one is only a month or so old. Very tempting. -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Your 2760M should actually be marginally faster than my old 2820M, which makes the lower Physics score more mysterious. The Physics/CPU score has very little effect on the overall score in 3dMark11, but of course becomes more important in other contexts. Something is holding the 2760M performance back a little, but I have no clue what that might be.
I'm feeling the same temptation with regard to the R4. -
is P10349 on my M17x(see signature) a good score or smthn is wrong ?
Graphics Score - 8698
CPU Score - 24020 -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Excellent CPU score (o/c via BIOS?), but something's wrong with the Graphics score. I suspect you were running on the HD4000 IGP instead of the 7970M during portions of that run. With a stock 7970M, your Vantage Graphics score should be ~20,000.
-
I went in to Task Manager and found that Roxio Burn and Itunes Helper were running. CPU was showing 12% usage at idle. I ended several tasks that didn't appear to be critical to system operation, got CPU usage down to 0% and ran the basic test again. Got the following numbers.
Overall Score
P3527
Graphics Score
P3232
Physics Score
P7261
Combined Score
P3250 -
Oh man DR! You elude me again lol...So soo Close...getting closer lol.
All this on just standard air lol!!!
No coolers or anything ahaha!

lol, fancy cache? Or something like that? Crazy numbers there ichime. To bad SSDs are not really that fast. Do you use that program regularly? if so how does it perform? Any downside to it? Do you see a noticible speed boost? Also is your RAM downclocked from 1866MHz to 1333MHz?
I've considered using a program like that as I have 16GB RAM so thought I'd ask your opinion. -
