yup you can overclock it easily to 4ghz 1 core. Go to Bios, performance options, enable extreme edition and set multiplyers 40 39 38 38

Thx a lot. I will certainly try and report the progress once I got the machine.
-
looking good ichime
well now...that's interesting..considering the gpus will go allot higher and on stock voltage..40k gpu vantage and 13.4k gpu scores @ 1035 ghz to be exact..
cards seem to be getting better with time. -
Nice Ichime! Good stock score to kick things off. Breathe some life back into the R2 benching.
I think you may be the 1st to try crossfire in the R2.
Hows it going so far? Did you get the clevos from Eurocom or some Dell GPUs?
Do the fans run automatically or do you need to Hwinfo them?
I'll be interested to see some 3d Mark 11 scores too.
Cheers.
-
Yeah I noticed that it does better with stock voltages but I haven't tried messing with the voltages yet. I was able to over clock one card to 950/1400 and it handled that pretty easily. I will try higher clocks when my new adapter comes in (I killed my old one while playing Crysis 2).
Hopefully more will follow. I know one guy who purchased 2 GTX 680Ms for his R2 so the R2 is still alive and kicking. The cards I have are Eurocom cards. The difference I hear between the stock Clevo and the Eurocom cards is the Eurocom cards have a custom VBIOS that gives it functionality with our R2s. The fan control is native/automatic so you don't need hwinfo (but I use hwinfo anyways because I can control the individual fans separately and reduce noise). I haven't tested audio over hdmi yet.
And 3dmark11 will have to wait as I killed my already dying power adapter while playing Crysis 2. However, I was able to max out Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 and get pretty smooth gameplay before my adapter went kaput. This now gives me some more motivation to get that 330w m18x adapter to work for the R2. -

Congratz on the new toys ichime!!
Glad to see that the eurocom cards have fan control on the R2 -
Thanks! Also, got my adapter to work after putting it in the freezer. I'm going to take it a bit easy with the dual GPU benchmarks for now.
-
you could...buy a 330 watt dell adapter and them mod the tip for your machine. since the adapters are power regulated it will adjust to what your pulling....as to how much the board and components can handle is quite another story.... but i would give it a try if i were in the position to do so....
side note...droping the laptops over all temp will also draw less watts...and turn screen brightness and lights off... and bench or gaming bench's in balanced mode. -
I already ordered a 330w and that is a possibility! I'm sure the board can handle more power and I might consider adding some cooling components to the actual board after I finish my anodizing project.
I never thought about dimming the screen. I might try that later. Thanks!
On a side note, here is a single stock run as well as an OC'd run. My max OC with Crossfire disabled seems to be around 1010/1560 with the memory clocks being limited by afterburner:
Stock 850/1200 (CPU Turbo boost is on):
1010/1560 (CPU Turbo boost is disabled, forgot to turn it on
):

Great work, ichime. It's awesome to see the M17x R2 handles so many GPU upgrades. What an excellent machine that has been for us.
-
looking good brother ichime!
-
ichime, after you use AB to OC, close it and reopen it. It should give you more room to OC.
-
-
yeah, go back and fix that tessellation brother reborn...you knew what you were doing was wrong!

HAHA LOL!
Hey Brother Johnksss hows your Vertex 4 SSD going?
Have you tried out the latest 1.5 Beta firmware?
Cheers.
-
havent tried the new firmware as of yet. still rocking 1.4 and it's been real stable. ill give the 1.5 a try tomorrow i think.
-
Cool! Yeh I'm still currently running on 1.4 as well.

A few of my runs, the max i could get on stock Dell drivers as of now (the summer is devastating in here!), room temp 27C + Notepal U3 on MAX:
Max Payne 3 plays on Ultra with 975/1500 OC MAX, but it really is unnecessary to play the game overclocked) The laptop itself run a little hot on the palm rest compared to aluminum M18x but not a deal breaker for me! -
Brilliant score STAM man!
Next Stop P10k oles!
Cheers.
-
quite the overclocker you have there. 1000/1560 on stock voltages under 70c is pretty amazing
-
StZu, tnx! Yeah, it sounds pretty neat) Anyways, today i decided to shoot for some higher OC and guess what, i can't even get 990/1550 stable, don't even want to try lower values... is it downgrading or smthing? i'll try to keep it max 950/1400 now, weird
-
I found difficult to push my 7970m above 930/1400. I am happy for now and start play some games.
At 850/1200: p5955
At 930/1400: p6423
The spec are: 3820qm+7970m -
For those who push their 7970m to 950/1500 at stock volt, can you share any tricks here?
Or just down to individual card oc potential? -
Yep it's just card OC potential.
-
you have to overvolt man. My OEM card can't push above 900/1300 at stock either.
-
Ok. I'm just a regular guy with regular luck!
-
Nice new machine btw bro!
-
thanks man!
These are my scores after installing the new official driver and update to 12.7 afterward (with manual max fan). CPU 40/39/38/38 and GPU 950/1400. Oh and with Enduro enabled.

long2905, seems like it was a batch of such cards from Dell. Tried to push a different M17xR4 with 7970m, got the stock score lower for 300 points and it overclocks only to 900/1300 max, when the rest of the fellas could push up to 1000/1560 or even higher..
-
That makes sense. Sort of. There are only a few handful who could push their cards that high though. Thanks forthe insight. Rep'd.

Just for the record add me to users without a lucky card.
Im not able to stay stable past 900mhz, got a lot of weird problems.
Oh well...

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
I'm trying undervolting now, so far I had a few matches.
I've undervolted to 1v, and I'm running 910/1350 right now.
At stock voltage I've observed that I get problems only when I stress the card so much, like not using vsync in games.
I've tried vsync bf3 at stock and didn't had freeze or crashes, probably because the usage drops when 60fps are reached, the card rests a bit in that moments.
Could be a temp fix, so for those having problems try to not keep the gpu running 99% full time. -
Hey guys,
Just received my m17x R4 and did a few test, anyone mind telling me if they look ok or if something seems wrong.

You may need to use version 2.2.1 instead. Also try to follow slick's guide for software overclocking.

Hey guys,
Yes I know this isn't the right thread to ask on
but there's so many m17x / 7990m / 680m owners here so I thought I could get some suggestions.
I want to get as many great games as possible within budget for my Alienware. Steam has some amazing deals at the moment like Witcher 2 60% off, and I want to take advantage of it.
I'd like to download some awesome graphically intensive games to test out my system. But those games should be actually fun, and long lasting.
So far it seems like Witcher 2, Skyrim, and Battlefield 3 are on my list. But anybody got some good suggestions?
Appreciate it

Crysis, Metro 2033 are ones which come to mind. GTA IV as well and Ghost Recon Future Soldier is a very entertaining game.

Dunno about steam but since you have a 3D model on the way I recommend:
Batman Arkham City - perfect 3d and a real treat to wonder around doing all the side missions & trophy's - just got 100%.
Assassins Creed Revelations. Same sandbox type game as BMAC, very pretty and great again to wonder around listening to NPC's. Dive from a high tower in 3D for instant vertigo
Max Payne 3. Perfect 3d since latest patch, great graphics & fun to play but linear so no replay value IMO.
Current 3D game-of-the-moment (but kinda old now) - Portal 2, loving it. The 3D really does enhance the gameplay and it's not often i actually do LOL when gaming but the humour is excellent
-
Thank you for the reply
Yeah I've thought about BMAC too it looks awesome, Assassin's Creed as well and I can't wait til Assassin's Creed 3 !
Max Payne 3 also looks fantastic, but Portal has never really seemed like my kinda game
Some single player games tho, I'm hoping to be able to download via torrents :| I'd prefer to pay the big bucks for long lasting games such as Skyrim and GTA4, and for long lasting multiplayer games such as CoD and Battlefield
I would just hate to spend like 50$ on a single player game, then not play it again.. Whereas I know I will spends hundreds of hours on Battlefield 3 and CoD
-
Crysis, Crysis 2, Metro 2033, Rage, Bulletstorm, MW3, BF3, SeriousSam 3:BFE, Batman Arkham City, FarCry, Skyrim, Left4Dead 2, UT3 are some of my favorites. Some of these are older games and not all that graphically intensive, but being able to run everything well that you can throw at it is also an effective approach to testing. An über-powerful GPU that plays fine with some games and sucks at playing other games is not a very good GPU to own.

Hello Guys,
here my highest Scores i can reach at 930/1675 Mhz.CPU Settings 40/39/38/38
I use this only for benching. For gaming i go back at Stock clocks.
I can´t set higher GPU Clocks at Stock voltage.
