Just tried the new 3DMark for Windows 8 also. These are my results (specs in sig, stock settings, no OC), Catalyst 13.1

    Icestorm - 103345
    Cloud Gate - 13522
    Fire Strike - 4281

And with my general 'safe' OC settings:
    Icestorm - 115946
    Cloud Gate - 16354
    Fire Strike - 4949

Just weird/to bad they don't use a total/overall score anymore like we're all so used to, or did I miss it?

No total because it's 4 different test for 4 different types of platforms.

Here are my scores for the new 3dMark. Are they pretty good?

    Icestorm - 111006
    Cloud Gate - 17105
    Fire Strike - 4789

My stats are in my sig, but my 7970M is o/c:
    Core clock;950
    Memory clock: 1,350 MHz

What do you all think? I am using the new AMD Catalytst 13.2 Beta 4 drivers.

they look a lot better than my 6990m scores so I think your on track. :p

Here is my first stock run. Maybe I'll try and overclock later, but it seemed to run fantastic minus the last test. The final one made me feel like I didn't have a gaming machine at all. :p

@bigtonyman: i dont think that any laptop could render that last test fluidly yet, aside from heavily OCed sli/cfx/(desktop) extreme cpu monsters ;)

Very nice Riri-Fifi - what AC adapter setup are you using with 7970M CF in the M17x R2? Can you provide a link to whatever PSU mod you are using?

Yes, both models have two GPU slots.

M17x R1's highest validated GPU configuration is Sli-280M, for the R2 the highest is Sli-285M.

I bought this computer hoping it would be the perfect desktop replacement.

The first issue that I encountered was the broken memory overclocking option on bios. I bought a 2x4gb Samsung 30nm yk0 ram to replace the stock memory but to my surprise, the option for overclocking on the bios never works.

if I manually changed the memory speed to 1866 or 2133, it does absolutely nothing. When I tried to tighten the timmings, only the first value would register and the others would automatically set to 15 even though I set it to 9. The voltage control also doesn't allow me to adjust it to 1.35v as the lowest value available is only 1.5v which means I am running my ram at higher volts which means it would eat more power than otherwise.

The second issue was the switchable graphics. On first boot or if I do something else, it doesn't work always and would require a reboot for it to function again. if I update to the latest and drivers, the brightness control on dedicated gpu is totally gone.

The biggest issue I face right now is when I bought an extreme edition cpu(2920xm). to my surprise, the bios doesn't have option for multiplier nor an option to offset voltage. And to makes matters worse, if I set the power limit to 99 on both the long and short duration, the cpu overheated and throttle on prime95 at only 3.2ghz on all cores so I am forced to lower the power limit to only 70 which only allows the cpu to run 2.7ghz on all cores without throttling.

The Intel xtu 2.1 also doesn't work correctly because if I set the multiplier on all cores to 30x, it still runs at 3.2ghz on prime95 even after I restart the OS.

I moved your post here so people that are rocking the same system with excellent results can help you learn how to do it with yours. Starting from ground zero is difficult if you are not certain what to do.

So, have you obtained an unlocked BIOS and still have these issues? If you don't have that yet, you'll want to grab it.

Anyhow, I'm pretty sure you can get some assistance with your issues from the M17x R3/R4 pros in this thread.
