anyone tried the 195.55 drivers? works fine for me except idle temps are really high.. idle around 58 degrees compared to the usual 43 degrees

edit: for some reason my secondary card is hotter than my primary in idle. the more amazing thing is that my secondary card now doesnt downclock during idle while my primary does! which is so unusual. the cards have swapped roles?

edit 2: nvm saw batboy's blog on the driver.. guess its a driver problem. is there anyway to import the sli profiles from the 195.55 driver into an older driver? dell's 186.64 works really nice for me

Looks like the driver switched them. Just a matter of changing which pcie bus is assigned as parent and daughter

its ok.. i found the patch on ur m17x blog :) works great for the 186.64 by dell.

for me the 186.64 is the best driver of all ive tried.. highest benches and in game performances.

the temps are really low too

    I got a question.

I remember one of the guys with an M17 had a setup where he had 2 HD Monitors connected to the M17 at the same time, but his laptop was closed of course.

Can we have this setup with the M17x? Turn off the laptop monitor or close the laptop and have 2 dual external monitors on it? If it's possible I will do that. It's not like the M17x's screen is top notch.

Yeah. Having 2 Ultrasharp Dell's would be awesome, along with a nice external keyboard. That would be a setup worth taking a picture of.

But the monitors I want are $499 a piece. Might as well get a QX9300 instead of 1 monitor lol. No. I want the monitors, but could probably do well with another type of monitor. I don't believe a lot of external 1920x1200 monitors are worse than the M17x's LCD.

When I sell my desktop though I am going to sell a monitor as well, only need one for use with the M17x

Batboy - does this mean then that it will no longer use the 9400m g?
ie. if i start on battery it will not use the 9400m g??

Correct. The 9400M G will be disabled. This is responsible for your missing memory - the 9400M G uses system memory.

it gets 256 MB dedicated to it, thus the deficit, if you boot on battery the bios will stop and tell you it enabled the 9400m, which you will have to then disable to use the discretes on battery - you have to force it

Just to throw it out there. I have the same issue, but will take the 9400 over the .25GB RAM anyday. Therefore, I haven't disabled it. .25GB is not a lot really. Unless you are running out of RAM, of course.

Everest Ultimate (Full Version) reports the same as do a few others (HWinfo32).

We were discussing this in another thread several days back - I'll have to look for it. @nickbarbs - you remember this one??

Hey, no the thread I remember was trying to read Radeon GPU temps and that Everest was causing my PC to completely freeze - wasn't involved with other discussions.

We had to turn off Crossfire, then load Everest, then re-enable crossfire :)

Ok, I found the thread. Aikimox had created a thread to discuss 9400M G/MCP79 temps. During this discussion we discovered the rev.b label. See page 3 and forward.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=432142&page=3

Feel free to add to the thread. At this point I belive the best guess is there are two sensors incorporated into the MCP79 which are producing the two readings.

Heads-up to all... GPU-Z has been updated to 0.3.7. Warning: running this app caused a hard shutdown on my system.

I opened up GPU-Z and noticed the clocks were not showing correctly on the sensor tab. It was locked @ default clocks and not downclocking. After several seconds the sensors tab began to display the downclock/proper reading.

I then opened up a second instance of GPU-Z to have the first display GPU# 1 and intended to have the second instance display GPU#2. Clicking on the second instance sensor tab produced a hard shutdown, screen blanked and laptop powered off instantly. Yikes

Back to GPU-Z 0.3.6 for me as it does not produce a hard shutdown.

Hello again, thanks for the information about the 9400, and yeah i'll prolly keep it since its quite helpful when running on battery alone.

The only concern i have is that while plugged in, installing apps and attempting to do stuff, even the initial start up, the laptop will....

the only way i can think to put it is that it locks up, and this is for 10-15mins at a time, it will just lock up and do nothing, if i wait the 15 mins it will get back to what it was doing but thats just stupid, so any ideas as to why it does this and/or how to fix it

Anyone had the problem with that graphics application, that sets all graphics for your games, messing up your games? Ever since I installed it, and since uninstalled it ive been getting weird laggy/crap graphics bits in my games where I move like I am covered in molasses. Anyone else had that problem?

Hey just a thought, go to this website http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm and download their drive fitness test, see if anything crops up. If your HDD fails you may need to get a replacement.

Also looked on the web, one guy suggested turning off/on your active desktop and see if that helps, or refreshing it.

Does it just freeze on the desktop or while surfing/playing games as well?

Not rocking any active desktop, just a static wallpaper.

Haven't tested out the HDD yet will try that in a little bit.

So far it has been freezing when installing new software.

would a problem with the shadow volume affect that? I'm not sure...possibly check to make sure that it is working properly. Have you been having this problem since you received your comp or just recently?

Had this same problem when installing windows on my SSD. I ended up upgrading the firmware and everything started working again. This is probably an issue with your drive. Try reinstalling windows (ugh) to see if it works, but definitely call support :(

@nickbarbs - so whats the solution? firmware update or replace the HDD all together?

and what should i say to support when i call them? just give them the symptoms and/or inform them that i need a new HDD?

I wouldnt say its a firmware update. So I am going with HDD replace. Call em up and tell them what your symptoms are and say that you need a new HDD. Since you have had this computer for only a few days it is unacceptable performance parameters for the machine!!! Give em hell mate =).
