    Hi all,

I just got my M17x yesterday, and just now I tried to play MW2 on 1600 res. and the GPU fan is going crazy...it goes to full RPM in a few seconds and stays that way. I havent modded the Nvidia in any way, so it wont be using both 280's...

Can u tell if this is normal? The sound is just too loud in my opinion.

    Thanx,

    R

What error? Did I miss a previous post?

I see. I thought maybe the Back to the Future reference would go over the head of the young-lings here.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy thanksgiveing to you too. Hey mandrake, whats with selling that nice CPU? Did the one on your M17x act up? Is that chip only made for laptops or can you stick that one in a desktop motherboard.

Why is it in your temp directory? When do you get this error?

It's only for Montevina based laptops/system boards. I'm selling it because I don't need it. My M17x came with a qx9300 and I had an extra one new from HP.

Got my 4GB Kingston HyperX CAS 7 RAM from Newegg today, shipped by my sister from NYC to the London town in two days (she rocks). Popped that in WEI went from 6.6 to 6.7 WOW!!! :notworthy:

Love the heat spreaders though, should add some good stability. Overall the system is super fast as it is, so I think i'm done upgrading this thing for at least a few months (lol) through probably mid next year when more games are using Quad Core I'll buy myself a QX9300 :)

I'll run some benchies tonight and see if the new RAM can help me get a better 3DMARK 06 score. Also, I will do this outside on my balcony Mandrake style to see if I can OC my CPU past 1300 without a freeze or blue screen :D

I've been reading alot of the posts from Lord_Zath's link, and im thinking, what sorta probmes do i need to look foward to. But i notice most pople with the Nvida cards are having these issues. What sorta complations are ppl having with the dual ATI cards? Any new updates? But maybe its not the cards, maybe im just missing the whole point.

Odd. I've had a problem like that before but usually its because Kaspersky has denied permission to it because its dangerous.

Edit: Must've been a filepath breakdown somewhere in your system.

I actually bought some games for my system today. I bought Borderlands to see what the fuss was about since there was a BF special on it. I also got the Force Unleashed. Loved the game on the PS3, I'm looking for extras with this version.

Please let me know how it runs for you and what version of Catalyst you're using. I get weird startups sometimes on many games with 9.11 and 9.10 Catalyst (Game loads with weird red lines all over. I quit and reload and everything is fine. Its just very annoying!)

i saw a screen shot from someone(i think it wasa mandrake) from the m17x benchmark thread part 2 where he used setfsb to oc his fsb.

i used the same pll code but i get chipset error. i have the same processor(qx9300) and almost similar systems. the only difference is that he has the 4870s and i have 280s. how can i make setfsb work for me?

or is there another application that can work to oc my processor from windows instead of from the bios? nvidia system tools allows it but when i use it to change the fsb the clock changes dont appear on cpuz so im guessing its not exactly that great

Why are you using an app to OC your CPU?? Use the BIOS. FSB:MEMORY - Its an extra reboot but IMO more stable. NST has been having issues with the newer drivers - at least for me it has. :(

That happens to me with 3DMarK06 but that also happened when I had my last system with the nVidia cards.

setfsb is not compatible with nVidia chipsets. As BatBoy said use the bios. NST is another option but not recommended.

i feel rebooting again and again to get stable clocks irritating :( thats why im trying to find programs to allow easy overclocking if possible.

i double checked the screen shot and its from a w90 so i guess that solves the mystery.

186.xx = ?? If its 186.24 then dump it and go with 186.82 or 186.91. Can also try the 187 driver. For me 187 had blank screen/resume from standby issues.

i had the same at first, if your sli performance mode is set to forced alternate frame rendering 2 it seems to happen, try switching to nvidia recomended. this worked for me.

You may have done something wrong - either with driver install (did you perform a clean uninstall of the driver prior to installing the current driver?) or when running the batch file. Might want to take a closer look at it or just run borderlands off 1 GPU.

I have been able to run borderlands successfully with smooth framerates and no missing textures. Just uninstalled 9.11 catalyst, deleting both gpus from the device manager. Rebooted and reinstalled standard Dell drivers. Then made a link to the steam executable file in ati crossfire extension tool with ut3 as the profile and force alternate frame rendering. Performance issues are gone it nw plays smooth as butter :) I think the latest borderlands patch sorted everything out

    Hi there,

Is it difficult to upgrade the processor to a QX9300? Are there any tweaks or bios settings change that I should do before upgrading? Do I just remove the old processor and put the new one in?

    Thank you

There's a video on how to do it in this forum. You technically don't have to do anything but if you want device manager to be right you will need to delete the old proc from there and have windows detect the new proc.

Guys, how can I tell if I'm using my m280"s in sli or the intergrated card?? I hit FN +F7 and the screen flashes but I don't know which mode I'm in. Took a quick look in the BIOS and both are enabled.

the ones that say pci e gen 2 support and link state power management.

should they be enabled or disabled?

I got my M17X replacement last week. However, it runs rly sluggish and locks up at times. Yes, stealth mode is off.

Also, idk if anyone found a fix for it but, my AIM 7 freezes whenever I try to send or if I receive a IM.

Is there any massive difference between Single 1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M and Single 1GB ATI® GDDR3 Mobility™ Radeon™ HD 4870?And if so which one is better to go with?

It's not a massive difference. If price plays an important factor go with the cheaper one.
