Sorry 20% is the 460m OC'ed -VS- stock 6970m, going off the GPU Vantage score average of both cards it works out to be about 20% that way. I'd imagine the stock -VS- stock would probably be closer to 30%. My badIf I could get a friggin way to change the voltages of the 460m I could close that gap even further

I want to be able to change the voltages too!
I'm just going to wait for someone to dump the video bios and remove the protection.

On the 460m or on the 6970 zippys007?
-
zippys007 would you be able to dump the vBios on your 6970m with GPUz and send to me or ichime. want to see if ichime can change his 6970m for the R2
-
DaneGRClose Notebook Virtuoso
The 6970m shouldn't have an issue with voltages, all 460m's for some reason do they won't read voltages at all even when dumped with nvFlash.
-
Was a bit scared to do this due to the temperatures the card reached because the fan controls don't work (I used HWmonitor to max out the fans, but the fans kept throttling back), but here is the Vantage GPU score of a 6970M in an M17x-R2:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Pretty much the same as what a GTX 485M scores (the other 6970M Vantage scores posted were pre Catalyst 11.2). The 11.4 Beta drivers are supposed to be even faster, but I won't bench anymore until I can get either the fan issues fixed or manual fan control without the throttling. -
Have you contacted Mumak about possibly finding a solution? RadeonPro also has a device id spoof built into it, I'm not sure if it will help with fan control but it's worth looking into. Finally, if you haven't already, try the R3 6870M drivers from Dell's website. The good news is your Vantage score is beating out an R3 + Sandy Bridge system. Too bad Dell decided to screw us by not providing a proper upgrade and selling the R2 alongside the R3. They would have had a lot more happy customers and sales. -
I tried the Device ID thing in RadeonPRO, didn't work. Also, the Dell and Clevo drivers won't install. Only the official mobility catalyst drivers work.
-
The Dell driver should install since you have the proper vbios now. If not, you likely need to mod the inf file slightly. You should see if the guys over at Guru3D (e.g. asdar) can help in that regard.
-
I'd love to see some gaming with fraps on with the r3 and 6970m. That's what I'm interested in.
-
I can probably do that tomorrow after work. I probably wont get anything up until like 18 hours from now though.
-
I put this together for another site ( T|I ) but figured I would post here for some referance to others that may want to do some benching. I'll need to rerun a lot of the benchmarks, but when I move into my new apartment, I may find some time.

John stopped fighting for 2 points at a time, he is working on world record desktop stuff with team PURE now lol -
That works for me, I'm willing to pick up those two points. I'm still small time, or a big fish in a little pond.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I'm small time, but I still have like 170 points haha......should be able to get about 15-20 more too if I feel motivated....
-
I think I might be able to net a few more, depends on how my 5870-->5850 flash works out...
-
damn I was hoping someones 3DMark11 score would be alot better than mine which would indicate I just had a wrong setting.
-
Try the 11.4 beta drivers: http://www.mediafire.com/?zq5gmcvqt95najf
(you'll need Winrar to open) -
I think used the wrong XMP Profile with the HyperX. With Profile #2 I'm getting Windows Experience of 7.8 for memory instead of 7.6.
I retested 3DMark06 and 3DMark11 and they didn't change much. -
Before Beta 11.4 drivers
3DMark 11 - P3100 (1280 x 720)
- GPU Score: 2819
- Physics Score: 6980
- Combined Score: 2862
After Beta 11.4 drivers installed
3DMark 11 - P3135 (1280 x 720)
- GPU Score: 2843
- Physics Score: 7127
- Combined Score: 2934
I did have to reinstall windows yesterday (after the initial benchmarks) so these aren't 100% direct comparisons. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
The windows tests are pretty limited....I would not base much off of them
-
My Windows Experience is at 5.9 due to the hard drive lol but the rest are 7.1 and above
-
Beta 11.4 drivers installed, XMP Profile 1
3DMark 11 - P3135 (1280 x 720)
- GPU Score: 2843
- Physics Score: 7127
- Combined Score: 2934
Beta 11.4 drivers installed, XMP Profile 2, Bus Freq: 99.80 MHz
3DMark 11 - P3147 (1280 x 720)
- GPU Score: 2846
- Physics Score: 7451
- Combined Score: 2939
Beta 11.4 drivers installed, XMP Profile 2, Bus Freq: 100 MHz
3DMark 11 - P3129 (1280 x 720)
- GPU Score: 2841
- Physics Score: 6978
- Combined Score: 2939
My numbers go +-15 points everytime I run it so the bus frequency makes no difference (already assumed this but just wanted to check). -
Its interesting that the Laptop Mag review states they received over 20,000 in 3DMark06. I believe that was stock.
Any ideas why it would be higher than what others are seeing with the same config? -
I get 19.3k and I'm not using an SSD yet. I'm not sure how much an SSD affects 3DMark06.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
with minimal tweaks your score would easily go up
-
Speaking of which, what are ppl getting for WEI for the 2720QM? Also, what are folks getting for the 6970? I know these #'s dont really matter, but I just want to compare them to my dinodesktop LOLZ. 3.9 for cpu, and 3.6 for graphics and gaming graphics
5.1 for old ram, and 4.1 for primary hard disk
-
7.5 for 2720QM, 7.6 for 6970
-
See what I mean about WEI numbers not mattering. Cuz I KNOW that the 2720QM and 6970 are not ONLY 2times better than what I have. I'm certain that they're way more powerful than that. What's the WEI out of anyway? Is the max 10?
