Im only getting 15800 at default settings in 3dmark 06
X-Fire
with no overclock
ai set to advanced
why is my score low?
thanks AwHw

that score is not really low...is about what I would expect for that cpu
-
i was getting 11900 with just one GPU so I ordered and installed the second one expecting a little more than 15800
I just ran it again with catalyst set to performance and I just scored lower
14500 (about) -

06 does not scale well with gpu power
vantage does though
The high scores you see in the OP are highly overclocked and tweaked systems, dont expect those or near them -
Ok thanks..
One other thing....
Turbo mode with prime 95 all 4 cores are running @1782mhz
Turbo mode off with prime 95 all 4 cores running @1729mhz -
how do you guys overvolt your gfx cards? when i overvolt them, at certain points in vantage and 06 i will get a sudden massive fps drop into sub 10 fps for about 10 secs before going back up. overall fps is also lower than should be.
oh and for cpu test in vantage the operations also becomes really low(like only 1000 ops)
this looks to me like there isnt enough power to go around.. so how do you guys do it? undervolt the cpu? -
oh and with 10.3 beta i still cant use the amd gpu tool.. it says failed to change clocks or something.. what did i do wrong?
it reads the clocks properly though..
i installed dell drivers then the 10.3 over them. -

when I have my cards overvolted, I dim the screen all the way down, remove all usb devices and turn off ALL AlienFX leds
I give the system as much juice as it can get its hands on!
I also disable the NIC and bluetooth in the BIOS -

I only score 13876 in 3DMark 06 with my specs in sig, stock clocks and Dell's stock GPU drivers.
-
When you guys are benching PCMark Vantage, do you only bench the Gaming Suite?
-
-
-
I say that because Crylo is running stock drivers with a lower processor and gets a higher score. Crylo, we gotta settle this in a Crysis Wars duel.
-
80 points in 3dmark06 is margin of error. You could run it a handful of times and end up with 80 point difference. Thats probably like .001 fps or something small.

does using the internal laptop display take up more power or does connecting to an external take more power? also, any idea how to solve me not being able to use amd gpu tool?
it reads the clocks and temps but always say setting of clocks failed when i try to change the clocks. 10.3 beta driver installed over dell driver.. -
hey guys, i have an m17x-r2, i ran 3dmark06 and i usaully get 17,6XX marks. im not sure if thats good or not for a 920XM as i had a few problems with it.
I factory oc'ed and had turbo mode on, and the last score i got was 18,081. is that good or should i install the 9.12 catalyst drivers, and if so how? -
apparently the guys here say 10.3 is great so give it a try. install it over ur dell driver.

can you link me?

but it is a dual with hyperthreading isnt it?
-
With the HT and Turbo it can kick some ... I find it completely pointless to upgrade (maybe only to 620M) other than for OC'ing competitions. You get a decent performance with nice temps and better battery life than with true i7 quads -

Oh I know it's a good CPU I've been impressed with it's performance, and a bit surprised, but 8 theoretical cores vs slightly higher clocked 4 theoretical cores I would think the 8 would win out.
I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a 620 actually. -
Yes, there's something weird going on with the i7 quads, I as well expected more. 620M will be a very good balance of performance and battery life, as well as temps. Will definitely upgrade to it if I decide to keep the system long enough.
-
Did you replace the thermal paste already? What are your max temps?
I put AS-5 and so far, scratching 60-65C at max (before - 70-75C), and around 40-45C idle. (ambient - 27C) -

In some instances a Dual or Quad mobile i7 can exceed it's max clock rate on all cores in certain conditions. What exactly are these conditions? and can this type of Turbo Mode be augmented by upping the vcore in the bios to supply the chips with more juice?
-
ok so i wanted to test my rig would vantage work well im not good at swapping drivers out and whatever but is there a checklist that i can print to make sure everything is up to date?
-
so i just ran vantage i got 10676 with everything in my sig except i720 and 4gigs all stock what should i do to get it higher

with the 920???
crossfire isnt on. -
lol no thats a diffrent system thats coming the one i tested was with the i720
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i think you should get 13,000 with the 720....
-
yeah but i have everything at stock what do i need to check to get it to 13000
-
Are you sure you aren't running the stealth mode?
-
hrmm actually my score was P9580 3DMarks
-
-
CPU doesn't do too much for vantage
-
the bios and everything else says i720 turbo mode enabled and the ati tool that came on this computer has crossfire checked but my bios says nothing about crossfire and its definatly an r2 i have rgb led screen
sorry crossfire is totaly new to me so no idea how it should work also in the device manager it shows 2 cards. hmmm -
It's not surprising at all, the CPU score part of the 3Dmark06 test for the 720M is about 3k, close to higher clocked/ OC'ed C2Ds. That's normal for a stock 06 run.
-
my cpu score for vantage was 10k total over all score in vantage was 9567 is that normal?
im just curious cuz i dont see how and 820 gets 6k more then me -

higher clocks (turbo and non) as well as more cache can make a big difference in some calculations

I was simply comparing between the 720 and 820 i7 chips
That huge L2 cache is part of what allowed Intel to spank AMD even though AMD had the integrated memory controller, L3 and a monolithic quad core, and higher frequencies -
-
here is a benchmark, overclock 5%, ddr3 voltage 1.7.
