You are miles ahead of us, you got about 22K. You have nothing to worry about, for now ;) .

He has to worry if I ever get an unlocked voltage! lol

I am really hoping that Dell gives that to us, if so I will be working some good 06 runs out of this machine! (and may actually have to invest in an AC unit then haha)

lol, I dont think the voltage does much on the R2 other than give you stability, but for more Heat in the system, which results in throttling. I basically use the 75Mv for stability and less heat. Although it will probably make a big difference for the R1. You are still in the top 5, lets hope they will unlock the voltage on your system. Good luck ;)

more voltage will allow higher overclocks :)

higher overclocks will be mighty fun! The 06 record prior to the R2 coming out was held in a modded W90 with a pair of 4870s and a QX9300 :)

Well I think I am at the point of "done" lol

Having seen what you did with a comparable system, I am comfortable saying there is most likely not more to be squeezed out of my system until something changes (BIOS)

I really need a super fast fan.
Rengesey, how do you make a man-made fan? And is it better than an average notebook fan?

Can anyone with an R2 and the i7 920xm give me some avg temps? While benching, idle etc....I just installed an oem and my temps seem high? I am curious what other users are getting.

I am getting idle of about high 40's and while benching stock (not overclocked) highest 85 or so with arctic silver 5 applied. Just trying to get a feel. It does seem high though?

Thats exactly what I get. After running 06, the max is in the 80s. When idle its in the 40s but if i have a fan under it would drop to the 30s. The lowest i ever got idle was about 29C.
Your system is perfectly normal. If there was anything wrong with the temps it would throttle.

In regards to cooling, has anyone tried Lapping the heat sinks for better numbers? I know it's a bit overkill, but such is the price to pay for cooler temps :)

What type of a boost do you think the 5870s will give over the 4870s whilst benching, in Vantage and 06? will it be worth the upgrade?

2K points in Vantage and 06 won't be too far off from what it is now since it's still an i7 proc.

I would say 23k TOPS in 06 but probably around 18k Vantage

For vantage that would be 20k CPU and 16K or so GPUs

I checked out your thread on the g73 benchmarks, Why does the performance change depending on the sytem, is it because of the motherboard?

You can actually raise the TDP and TDC limits of the proc with the G73. Obviously that is a great way to burn up your proc and some believe the options were left there by mistake. If you go to the Asus product page the i7-920xm isn't a supported processor but those options don't appear in the bios until you install that proc.

Wow so you get more features when you install the 920 into the bios? Still that's sad in a way, the 920 is a beast, but when the 940 comes out, it will obliterate it and be powerful for some time. I still can't that manual...

They don't want you to do it. They even put a warranty sticker on the screw of the CPU.

I don't think there is a 940 mobile edition, I'm not sure that they will make a 940XM, because when an extreme edition comes out it last for a while like the QX9300, it still survives with the huge amount of cache memory. Although if they plan on making one, I'll be the first inline.

There was supposed to be a 930 or 940 coming out in the fall. It didn't look like a real upgrade because it was still the same TDP. If it were a cooler version people would be jumping on it.

Just curious, is a 3dmark of 15400 about right for an M17x-R2 i7 820qm? So far this has been the best I can get, I am trying to make sure that this is about right for a baseline before further tweaking.

Also, since you cannot OC the CPU through the BIOS ><, what options are there that work well with the M17x-R2, if any?
