Hey guys...Finally got around to running a bench or two & was curious about how my numbers look. High? Low? Or just about right?
All stock, no overclock, A04 Bios still. Basically right out of the box.
SCORE 12028

can any1 tell me if 14000 3d marks is good? but i only got 9 in vantage =/ ive only just had my machine 5 hours and worrying.
-
Lets take the post issue to the owners lounge.
@whitelight: your numbers seem fine. -
Thanks Joker...Guess I need to do a little OC'ng now to see just how high I can go.
-
it got moved here by batboy m8..
-
Your benchmark 'low score' question was moved here.
-
seems off if you have the 920xm, your numbers should mach or be close to whitelight01's....check to make sure x-fire is enabled & see if power play is enabled in the CCC. also make sure you are not in stealth mode.
-
ok guys, how we doing on benching? kind of skimming through to get caught up on the head way being made.
hopefully things are looking up! -
What's a good average for scores? I'm getting 11k in vantage and 17918 in 06 that's with a05 and 10.5 no oc

Megacharge Custom User Title
I'm looking forward to Mandrake's benchmarks.
-
same here.
-
Stock run out of the box, CPU is an ES. If I remember correctly, my i5 + 4870CF got about 11k stock. -
Why is every1 doing stock runs only? Come on get some oc happening guys
-
First cuz I got my comp, second because the drivers blow right now.
-
Both Joker and I have posted OC runs. The problem is that these cards start getting too hot and either crash the driver, or throttle the performance when OCed.
I'm running 870/1000/1.1 currently and am doing some long term tests before I post again. -
I am quite aware of what the problem is lol, Joker has told me numerous times himself. I was merely taking a pun at the crap drivers.. as I have been doing for a while now lol.
-
Got ya.
Yeah, it's annoying. I'm pretty happy with the thing in general, but as a completest, I still feel like if there is anything left to be had out of these things, we should GET it.
I'm just happy I'll have such an immensely powerful machine for my long recovery after I get out of my back surgery in a couple of weeks, so a 1500ish difference in Vantage scores isn't going to bother me.
Everything DX10 this thing chews up for breakfast, it's only when you go to DX11 and crank everything to max that it starts to balk. For a laptop, that's pretty amazing.
That said, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting on a fix from Dell.
-
I understand that vantage is less CPU reliant but i was just wondering how you got 11k in it with an i5? I have a 920 and i think i barely pulled 11k in my bench all stock on that run i might of had 10.4 but A02 was the bios, i just want to know in case i might have a problem with my driver installs lol cuz im a total newb i have no idea how to clean my registry or do a clean driver install. Also On the Crysis benchmark was there a certain baseline we should have it on for posting on here?
-
Hopefully I will have more time the next couple of days.
-
-
Yeah the CPU plays a big role in it for some reason. Your scores are about what's expected. Watch what happens when you put the 920xm in. -
All of the sudden there's a reason to get the 920 besides for benchmarking.
I did that test at 1.15V. I'm going to try it at the 1.05V Dell has set.
Edit: Dropping down to 1.05V and 800|1150 clocks only dropped my score by 200 points. This is 3DMark06 all over again. I guess I'll continue after I put in the 920. -
Which CPU are you running your bench with?
-
The 720QM right now.
-
I am surprised Vantage is still so CPU dependent.
-
I think this has more to do with ATi cards being cpu dependent rather than Vantage.
-
Maybe it's not Vantage, maybe it's the gpu's hardware itself. I might be wrong but wasn't the something about ATI cards in general being more CPU dependent than Nvidia cards?
-
Yes.
/10char -
Are there any bench will could support this theory?
-
The program or application decides if it is CPU or GPU dependent. Not the GPU card.
-
I have first hand experience where a T6600/3670 system had a higher cpu load in the same game than a T5750/8600. ATis scale well with faster cpus.

Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
this is my first benchmark06 score with STOCK 4870s
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I think it is something about the drivers for the 5870m's that is cpu dependent, not that actual GPU itself
-
Time for Dell to pop in and tell us what's going on with these cards.
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
i said before that i cant install drivers newer than dell ones on the 4870s but noone paid attention. this may be a new season for Dell.
the only way i could install 10.5 was after i uninstalled dell driver for the 4870s through device manager and then install 10.5 one using have disk method.
but this was only for drivers. catalyst control center and other stuff from 10.5 couldnt be istalled. only those inside dell driver. -
i suggest you head over to http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...l-m17x-r2-edition-owners-lounge-part-2-a.html and ask there as here's it's kinda OT... you're not the first one with this issue, you might get better help over there.
-
ut that can't really be relevent since the CPU and GPU are differant so it sort of invalidates the test. should be done with the same set up only one differant factor for benchmarking.
-
I'm aware that your method would be more exacting, but I don't have thousands of dollars to spend out of minor curiosity. I think what you mean by relevant is valid, but a T6600 is considerably faster than a T5750, which even if not valid, still does present something interesting.
-
I overclocked my cpu to 3.7 stable with E-Leet than ran 06 and got 20697. Not too shabby. I'll wait till my laptop cools down then run Vantage later.
-
vantage is not cpu dependent. it's mhz dependent
easy way to find out...
run 1 2 3 or 4 cores...the gpu should still come to be about the exact same score. -
What processor are you using?
-
Just mentioning 31337 would tell you its a 920XM
-
Yep, the 920, it's very nice I must say
-
Hi guys is 19638 a good score for CF 5870? or is this not using my 2nd card as i thought i might ave CF issues. heres picture:
Imageshack - 3dmarks06.jpg
(i set ATI to high performance for the test, is that corrrect?)
and does anyone know why it says cpu speed 2105? when ive got turbo on for 3.3?
thanks you =) -
that is about right it always says that for my 920 also.
-
oki, so its defo using my crossfire? i was planning on replacing my card and motherboard as sometimes just browsin the net the fan goes up and down randomly but very quietly, am i just being over paranoid with what happened to my r1 lol?
-
I totally understand your paranoia especially since I had an R1, I keep expecting my unit to mess up like the R1 but so far so good man. I think your unit is fine man those are good scores.
-
sweet! ok im happy that both cards work! only issue i sometimes here is a ticking noise like the fan coming from top right, possibly the right fan? =/
-
I'm hoping the 940 will be just that little bit better. Here's hoping it benches with the CF5870's well!
-
Is this from the initial boot up, I hear the same thing but it could just be the harddrive since I havent installed my ssd yet I think thats what it is but its only when I boot up and its probably not something to be worried about remember this is an R2 its going to be slightly different than before so expect some change but like we all do, check your temps, make sure your in crossfire, and for good practice this may not be something important relative to the unit but I let the gpus cool down before I shut it off, like a turbo timer on a sports car lol.
