use driver sweeper to get rid of it entirely. use revo uninstaller pro to uninstall and delete all registry for CCC.

you should then be able to go into windows. this happened to me with my alien on my sig. and this is the step that i took while in the safe mode.

    good luck

Quick question. Who is getting 8.930.10.0 as the build number for Catalyst 12.1?

Yeah it does for m17x-R3's owners. If you didn't install the drivers properly, it will make the Catalyst version say the one you upgraded to but the build number will remain in the version you are trying to upgrade from. That means, you didn't install the drivers correctly! :p

    Thanks for checking! :D

So is there something wrong with the drivers or did I do something wrong? Ohhhhh I did not do clean install and that is why!!!

Anyone know what it is supposed to be?

would a clean install using driver sweeper fix this issue?

    Gaming performance-wise:

The best driver for Skyrim is 11.10 WHQL...

The best driver for every other game is 11.12 Beta 18 Nov...

Just so you guys know this.
The 11.12 WHQL driver doesn't contain the 11.11c optimizations, as they are older drivers, these 12.1 previews are the very latest, as only 5 days old

    11.12 WHQL = 9th November

    11.11c = 30th November

    12.1 Preview = 8th December.

Running 12.1 on my M15x with Zero issues! and much improved performance

Just for recorkeeping, i did a normal isntall on top of the 11.10 dirvers. Didnt get a BSOD, everything worked great except i could not enable Xfire. I restarted machine, and the I was able to switch xfire mode.
Noticed huge gains in BF3. Hope this helps someone :)

My systme is an m17xr2, with q740, 8gs ram and dual 5870's (soon to be 6990's). Actually, the new drivers make me question teh decision to shell out 800 bucks on the 6990's ... but cant go back now :(

I keep getting BSOD when installing all of the latest 11.xx and 11.12 drivers.
The only one that doenst give me BSOD loop is are the 11.12 from guru3d.

Can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong ?
I boot into safe mode, use driver sweeper to clean AMD things.
Reboot into normal mode, install 11.xx or 11.12, pc asks for reboot.

Then the moment it boots into windows login screen i get bsod with atimkdag.sys error

I really hate how ati doesn't fix this .... already 3-4 updated drivers and still i keep getting BSOD loop :s

Does anyone know how i can fix this?
I want the normal 11.12 to work, not leaked or drivers that are tampered with:s

    Thanks a lot
    Thomas

Tell that to AMD, it's not your fault and it's a common problem right now. It's AMD's fault. The problem is is that our cards aren't a part of the officially supported bunch either.

    I installed 12.1 and got a BSOD.
Installed again and it said install failed.
Restarted and GPUZ says my current driver is: atiumdag 8.930.10.0 (Catalyst 12.1).

    Weird.

In the new profiles for catalyst, on the Skyrim profile, set the crossfirex mode to AFR-Friendly. That did it for me.

Still no CrossfireX support though. :(

Ok so I installed 12.1 and got that mad crazy flickering.

So I uninstalled it and installed 11.12...then BSOD upon reboot after install.

Lamesauce. I think AMD is trying to give me an excuse to buy a new m17x with a 6990m in it...even though I technically cant afford one.

Ok...dumb question. If I bother to re-install 12.1 on the hopes that this will work, can someone give me a more detailed explanation of how I peform said fix above?

I dont really know what you're talking about. (sorry!)

I've been reading about the performance increase on the new 11.12 on skyrim. I downloaded them this morning and tried installing, half way through the install bam BSOD, no amd driver found upon reboot. I restored my pc, unistalled old drivers and tried again. Once again BSOD half way through install.

Anyone else having this problem with there 5870's ? I would really like to try the new 11.12. This same thing happened with the 11.11a but not 11.11. Does anyone know a work around, Thanks =P

Seems none of the 11.11 or 11.12 series of drivers work for M17x2 with 5870cf. BSOD all over the place. I did install the 12.1 beta drivers last night and they install without a hitch (upgraded from 11.9). And now I don't have to alt+tab in Skyrim and it runs at a very good framerate, however I get horrible flickering when playing and it gets worse the longer I play, I had to stop last night for fear of an epileptic convulsion.

    Thanks
    Mike

Guys i did a clean install and then I installed the dell ATI/Intel driver.

After that i tried to overwrite that driver using 12.1 preview driver, got a BSOD

System restarted and said no driver installed. so I un installed everything and try to install using 12.1 driver directly with out intel driver. It didn't work

After countless restarts and reg cleaning it seems like 12.1 driver not working for me.

As a final run i installed modded bios and disable the iGPU. tried again using 12.1 no luck.

however i can install crappy dell driver.

    Any help...?

I don't know your system specs but I installed 12.1 ontop of 11.10 on my R2 and all of my games run smoothly. Granted I've corrupted my CCC and can no longer acess it. At the same time on my pure SSD drive (AS compared to my Hybrid Drive) the 12.1 clean install leads to alot of distasteful flickering. So my advice which I might do if I wasn't so lazy (I'm currently running the rule if it's fixed/working don't touch it don't break it) I would installed 11.10 and then do a custom install of 12.1 ontop of 11.10 of Driver only.

I hate how you have to do all of these workarounds and tinkering to get AMD drivers to work, but what else is new? They never/have never worked out of the box.

I also got 12.1 drivers to work on my r2 by installing on top of 11.10....however my CCC is still working fine! I don't know if I am just lucky or what, but I've noticed a fairly large gain in Skyrim (especially in the cities like Whiterun....used to be mid 20's and now it's the mid 30's). Everywhere outside of the cities will stay at 60 FPS and in dungeons I'm getting over 100 FPS (I've disabled vsync). I'm running Ultra everything except no AA.

I am beginning not to care frankly. If ATI doesnt fix this soon I may just break down and buy a new m17x with the 6990m in it.

I wish we had a forum contact who worked at Dell like we did when I first came onto this forum for my initial 5870 driver issues. Someone who could tell us if Dellienware was working with ATI on getting the drivers to work with the older r2's...hell any update at this point would be nice.

I am considering switching to the nvidia 580m if I do get a new laptop...but sometimes I read that those folks have just as many driver problems (throttling etc) as we do. Sigh. Maybe ATI could just make this easy on me (and my wallet) and fix the @#$%^& problem.

    Sorry...END RANT

Or, you could use the Alienware as a portable gaming rig and build yourself a desktop with 2x6990's in CFX and those 6 core intel CPU's and run any game in the conceivable future :)

Bigspin, what are your system specs? THe 12.1's install perfect for me. I just reinstalled them over the previous 11.11c drivers i had

Bro, i hear your rant and I feel your pain...BUT don't get a new computer yet. Wait till the next gen. They are only a few months away and then you may have a legit reason to upgrade regardless if ATI fixes things or not ;)

Ya, that's sorta what i did, but my 5 year old hogs my desktop now. So that prompted me to buy the Alienware ;) (at least that's what i told my wife :D )
