so, if i read all this, i better stick to 11.10?? I really hoped that 11.12 would have fixed the BSOD thing![]()
I paid a lot of good money for skyrim and i only played 8 hrs so far, and thats 8 hrs of testing, tweaking and stuff, no actual playing .... same happened last year with fallout new vegasI guess AMd wants me to buy a PS3 ...

you want to install 12.1...xfire is still buggered on Skyrim, but at least the game plays nice now with one card
-
I have three machines with Nvidia, one with ATI. Nvidia I neve have to do anything specail to instal, ATI I just had to do a reinstall after yet another missed up ATI update. ATI should invest in a better install process. My next rig will be Nvidia for sure. I at lest gave ATI a shot.

SlickDude80 are u using caps with 12.1?
-

For bf3 and skyrim what do u think, 11.11c or 12.1?
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
12.1 has further optimzations for skyrim. Its working good for me so far
-
I installed dell driver first and then try to overwrite it with 12.1
BTW if I do a custm install do i need ignore CCC?
just finished repasting job and i'm going to clean install again. (I think my ssd is crying, it's the 4th secure erase within 3 days) -
yes ignore CCC installation
12.1 is great with single GPU like mine -
So you guys would recommend just installing the 12.1's over my 11.11 without unistalling everything?
Some people complained of a broken CCC. Will mine work properly if I do a clean install(uninstall the old stuff, driver sweeper, and then reboot)?
I don't play Skyrim, but I want the improvements to BF3 -
thank you AMD for the horrible BSOD with 12.1.
reverting to 11.10 when i get home tonight. ..... -
Installed straight over the top of 11.10. No problems at all. still getting Aero bug though....
-
Dellienware Workstations & Ultrabooks
yeah im having problems with loading the CCC software it self. some implement dll problem or something like that. Crossfire is still enabled though checking through gpu z...
Is this problem that some users are facing?
i did clean install using revo uninstallerpro and driver sweeper.. -
If you are having problems, download the latest AMD driver from Dell and place on desktop, remove current drivers using amd uninstaller, restart, install Dell AMD driver and restart and then install 12.1 drivers over the top.
Never fails for me. -
-
basically, sometimes on boot up or when you switch to Intel graphics, you lose Windows Aero theme (Glass task bar and borders on web pages and start menu) and it reverts to the standard Windows theme.
Nothng major just annoying. Either way, theres a fix floating about the forum somehwere where you restart the aero theme every time it crashes.
Dont worry, its minor, just irritating. -
Ok managed to install 12.1 after freash install
First dell official driver and on top of that i installed 11.12. got a massive bsod and forced to installed the driver using device manager (dell driver)
than 12.1 and again bsod...got back to windows and realised driver actually installed but problem with whql. reinstalled whole driver again. when i came back to windows, driver not loaded due to signature issue. restarted and disabled the driver signature verification. woot...it's working
then i actually restarted by accident and forgot to disable driver signature check. however driver loaded perfectly. since than i think i restarted nearly 10 times due to some windows updates and no issues. 12.1 full version including ccc working. -
Installed 12.1 (from 11.9) with no issues. CF 5870m here.
What I did was ~
1. Uninstall CCC via Control Panel's Add/Remove program.
2. Restart in safe mode.
3. Run Driver Sweeper and remove all traces of AMD display.
4. Run CCleaner and cleaned both the HDD and Registry.
5. Restart normally.
6. Install 12.1 followed by 11.12 CAP.
7.
Haven't done any extensive testing yet. But Skyrim performs a little better outside in the overworld now and L.A. Noire is now playable for me. Yay~ -
Stupid question but hey, somebody had to ask it.
How to you install drivers over-top of existing ones? Would I download/install 11.10 and then download/install 12.1 before I restart? -
I was under the impression that doing so is highly unadvisable since existing drivers might conflict with new ones. Can someone confirm this?

My issue is that i cant change to the intel card using 12.1, with the latest dell i can.And yes im using the ccc form dell, and the rest from 12.1.
Slick did you get the same problem? -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
I haven't tried. My GPU is always on the 6990. I'll try it later after work and i'll update this post
-
I have no problem switching to igpu using 12.1 driver with all the features installed ,including ccc.
-
Guys, where did you find the ATI/Drivers that you are talking about.
I went to dell.com/drivers and automatically detected my Alienware and there were no new software available...
I am asking this because a have three days off during this holiday and plan to put my M17x R2 back to factory settings and update fro there. I will try to reinstall 12.1.
Any general advices? Thanks in advance! -

Here you go NewVelaric:
AMD Catalyst? 12.1 Preview driver -
Any chance that an official version of 12.1 will come out in January and actually work with our 5870m's???
I tried the preview version SlickDude80 posted...but I get the funky screen effects and worse performance in Skyrim (which is the only game I am playing right now).
Am I understanding correctly that if you turn off crossfire the funky screen effects go away? I cant remember if I had crossfire on or off when I installed the preview drivers.
As far as crossfire is concerned in relation to Skyrim, I think this is a Bethesda problem, not an AMD one. I had to download funky files to get crossfire to work properly in Fallout 3/Fallout New Vegas, the latter of which uses the same engine as Skyrim I believe...i know it doesnt seem to make any sense but thats what Obsidian said. -
CptXabaras Overclocked, Overvolted, Liquid Cooled
Megatony, upon installation crossfire is on by default.
Actually i'm also experiencing problem running skyrim in crossfire, and they goes away with CF disabled.
Personally i find the 11.10 with 11.9 cap4 to be the best for skyrim -

You people are golden. r2 here, BSOD's on boot for the last few. Really annoying. I'll try to wipe, then dell it, then 12.1 it. Still got a shoddy adapter and it died with 11.9, hopefully it'll be enough of a boost to keep heat down with bf3. Good game so far. -
Oh.. I thought I should mention, it doesn't crash in Linux. hehehe
EDIT:
I didn't want to reboot 3 times so i wiped, installed the dell 2010 drivers, 10.9, then 12.1 and it booted up just fine.
You people get special brownies.
I'm on a 17", 2nd rendition, with cross-fired 5870's if that helps anyone. -
I installed the 12.1 betas the first time with no issues. I will say I have the Intel card disabled in BIOS and that seems to have helped my system with all of the driver issues I have had in the past. That Intel card will never see the light of day again!!!
-
I installed 11.12 and I just noticed today that when i go back from integrated graphics to the gpu I lose my ccc color settings and i have to reapply my settings again. Anybody have that problem and have a solution?
-
mp5. I have always found ccc's color management to be problematic. Therefore I generally leave it alone and use a third-party color management program. Should do the trick.
If you want to go all serious with it, I'd recommend:
Argyll Color Management System Home Page
and its GUI: dispcalGUI?Open Source Display Calibration and Characterization powered by Argyll CMS
More simple solution would be Lutcurve:
Atrise Lutcurve: LCD and CRT Monitor Calibration software for 6500K gamma 2.2
Hope that helps! -
I got white screen while installing, fixed it by go back to safe mode to uninstall the drive. anyone knows why?
-
How is the 11.12 or the 12.1 working with WOW or SC2? Anybody play those?
-
Hey Forum,
Heres my short story . Like everyone else 11.11 kinda screwed everything up . Constant BSODS etc. So I had reverted to 11.10 which worked fine and better without the 11.2 caps. (Battlefield 3 had some crazy jerky freezing up issue with those installed).
For each install I do of a new CCC frok now on I get a " CCC has installed but with some warnings , check log for details" message. I check details and the errors column is blank ??
Installed 12.1 preview over top of 11.10 ,same With warnings error. All seems ok untill I saw the post about the driver number in GPU-z being of an old driver:
And finally CCC doesn't load like some others experienced.
Might I add that I still get the with warnings message should I use driver sweeper through Safemode.
Thankyou .
EDIT: Its gonna be a back track to 11.10 for me. Skyrim kinda resembles something of a 90's rave. Lots of flashing and lightsources spilling from every angle. Shame . Seems I will be stuck there for quite some time. See how the 12.1 final release goes.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Whiterun's Annual lazer show in full swing.
Ok im going to continue: Battlefield 3 is terrible . Locks up in vehicles orwhen the going gets heavy. Walking around generally is slightly jerky.
World of warcraft for those interested plays Smooth as silk.
SWTOR also plays very well with 12.1. -
Battlefield 3 and my other games work fine on my 12.1 fresh install and I'm quite happy with them actually.
-
Obviously something is going wrong here. Its not going to be the same for every person , every system..actually. I have an issue as do many others with the current run on drivers.
Back to the image of Skyrim in my previous post , I can almost make out an image amongst the blurs/flickers. Crossfirex related? Wouldnt be the first time.
Im guessing the only way to disable it if CCC doesnt work is via Device manager. (CCC doesnt even appear in the right click menu after a fresh install- clicking the .exe in start menu spills some info about the .dll being corrupt or unreadable)
This really bugs me. Dual GPUS are still so Beta it hurts. -
Skyrim, BF3, SWTOR all run fine on 12.1 for me.

This does make me sad
I dont know what Im doing wrong. Where all these bugs come from
For skyrim are you guys using many mods? Wondered if they could have an effect. They shouldnt.
Also I understand for the Xfire issue but surely if it ran fine before 12.1 then it should prior. Ill give it a shot and report back.
EDIT: Ok whats the deal with CCC not working on 12.1 then? It doesnt appear on the right click menu
Back to 11.10 for me. I did notice 12.1a released now. More Rage fixes (yawn)

Hi fellow members!
Based on the specs ive put in my signature, i'm having a hard time installing the 11.12 Catalyst drivers for my x-Fire 5870m's. I get an bluescreen halfway into the installation, and a bluescreen instantly after that the W7 log-in screen shows up.
Does anyone know what's up with these drivers? Any thoughts?
Thank you in advance.
Edit:
Now of coure, i know that the login-bluescreen probably is because of the corrupted driver, but does anyone know why it bluescreens during the install?
- Scott. -
No idea why its happening but its been reported in other threads in the forum. 11.11 is also suffering for BSOD for Alienware Xfire 5870's. Your best bet is to hunt through the forum for other driver links - personally I am still stuck on 11.10 (for BF3) and eagerly awaiting 11.13.
-
Thanks for the reply.
Has anyone tried the 11.12a driver?
If not, 'ill be trying them now.. Kinda -pissed about the fact that i need to redo from the scratch DELL-driver every time though. Seriously the last time I'm buying anything with the name "AMD" in it..
- Scott. -
Anyway - here is more info on the drivers;
http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/631827-official-11-12-drivers-released.html -
Cheers, thanks for the link.
I'm having a hard time running everything in BF3 on everything low and 2-3 days after heavy gaming, my cards drop to 20-30 FPS..(from 70-ish)
EDIT:
As for an update, the 11.12a preview driver went fine without updating CCC, although it didn't ask me for an updtate afterwards, which usually means that it didn't update anything at all.

The 12.1 betas are recommended (actually, i think they are up to 12.3 betas now)

yeah i haven't had any problems with the 12.3 betas drivers although i think I have had slightly better performance with 12.1 preview driver.
