it shouldn't, if it (AMD GPU+120Hz PANEL+DISABLED IGP) was that simple. instead, it's (AMD GPU+120Hz PANEL+DISABLED IGP+NVIDIA'S 3D VISION EMITTER) more complex than that. the last thing dell wants to hear is something akin to "help, i have a 3d capable gpu installed on my 3d capable screen, yet i can't get 3d working - whats wrong?!?!". hence they disable anything other than compatible nvidia 3d vision gpu's with the 120Hz panels equipped with nvidia 3d vision emitters via bios. we'll only know for sure when/if someone get's some other nvidia 3d vision compatible gpu (aside from the 460M) up and running in a 3d vision equipped M17x R3 (or official response from dell, whichever)... ;)

I think the BIOS simply does a conditional check, AMD + 60hz panel - if it doesn't exist then it throws an error, Nvidia + 120hz panel no issue and proceeds to disable IGP, pretty simple stuff really

Well if thats simply the case, then throwing the GTX 485m should work perfectly :p haha, we need LV to get that installed and tested

Dell also configures Nvidia with 60Hz screen and it works with IGP turned on...so a simple conditional check is not all it does..

They have added more parameter for complete integration. Like you said maybe the word is just " Nvidia". But why would Dell shoot its own product down with 460m. Like i said before...perhaps they are still waiting for Nvidia to optimise.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER 3D SYSTEM OUT THERE THIS MOMENT USING A BETTER NVIDIA CARD OTHER THAN 460M?

No, I looked around and could not find another 3d system using a newer Nvidia card with 3D.

Couldnt find any either. The 485M does support 3D if I'm correct.

Yes it does indeed support 3D, we just need someone to take the risk of buying it, and trying it out in there M17x that has a 120hz 3D screen. I think within the week one of the people here is supposed to try it out and let us know.

That is true....It might or it might not....For my sake I hope Geoffxx gets it working...or he might beat me with his walking cane.

The other question is why other manufacturers have offered any Nvidia Card better than 460m. Marketing strategy? Profit?

Clevo resellers are offering the choice of 6970 CF, and Nvidia GTX 485m SLI. Althought they are offering them in their 17 and 18 inch laptop, which is what Alienware plans to do as well... I just hate that they didn't offer it in the 17 inch solution allowing Alienware to once again take the prize of Most Powerful 17 inch laptop.

" If you are into 3D, you can bring it up a notch with NVIDIA 3D Vision™ for an immersive 3D gaming experience on your 3D monitor or 3D TV."

Read the article again.....so far no one has introduced a better card than nvidia 460m for 3D on the 120Hz notebook screen. This will change...but as of this moment none exist. Of course so many cards are used for 3D on external screens. Thats yesterday's news. 485m being used for normal non 3D screen is also yesterday's news for those who read.

Rest my case....at the end of the day, i wish all of us are happy with our machines....

    Adios.

ffs you really are splitting hairs here, my conversation with you has ended, 3D laptop with 485m, so it isn't as advanced as the AW R3 with a built in 3D panel...........so what

See the link below for a successful exchange from the 460M to the HD6970m. Only we don't know if they had the 120Hz screen. I could guess on that , but leave that up to you. Perhaps they can offer some advice though. They do invite questions at the end of their presentation.

The none 3D R3 accepts both Gpu's. I suspect that's what this is, now I'd have got more excited if it had been a 485m :)

Recent Clevo brands with the nVidia cards also support 3D Vision on external 3D monitors via DVI and 3dTV Play on some 3DTVs via HDMI 1.4a. They are using up to 485M and even offer SLI on one model. Though they are testing built-in 120Hz screens, they are not available at this time. This is "Part" of why I chose the R3.

Thanks for the find but it has to be a 60hz model unless they completely re-wrote the bios. Look at the screen shot of the bios showing both the IGP and AMD dGPU enabled, you can't do that with 120hz because the IGP won't work with 120hz. ;)

Will never work unless dell decides to support it. Needs BIOS update. Believe me I tried while I had the R3
