Well.......probably not a 9th gen chip. At a guess I’d say more like a 6th gen

bwahah you know i have realized some time ago i spend more and more time playing with the screwdriver
than anything else
Must add that i bought a faulty 4930, spent 190$ and now cant return it coz the time has passed, i waited for other things to do and was too confident that there could be nothing wrong with cpu.
That probably is right for ANY cpu other than
4930
Take my advice and really study the feedback on the seller -
The world record for Cinebench R15 on a 4930MX is 880 points:
https://hwbot.org/submission/4284821_papusan_cinebench___r15_core_i7_4930mx_880_cb
Case in point, he used 1600Mhz RAM, with 1866Mhz RAM or 2133Mhz if you have a golden sample CPU you might get near 900 points, but that is a big IF, because not all 4930MX will even be stable at 4.3Ghz, nor will the laptop be able to keep it cool for much longer than a CB R15 bench..
A i7-9750H will score around 1200-1250 points with an undervolt, might score a bit more with 3200Mhz RAM, and will score around 3100-3200 CB R20, I couldn't find any CB R20 runs for the i7-4930MX, but going from i7-4790K that scores around 2200 points on CB R20 at 4.7Ghz, the i7-4930MX will give you a score around 1800-1900 points.
This is also without taking in account the fact that none of those scores on the Haswell where done with Spectre and Meltdown patches in effect, so in the real world expect lower scores even with the same OC.
IF you play multiplayer games the Haswell will struggle, 4 cores just doesn't cut it anymore, even in SOTR the Haswell will dip into the 30FPS range in the bigger village even if you have a 1070 the CPU will hold you back.
You can get 7th gen performance out of it, but dont expect it to be comparable to a 6 core cpu(or more), with only RAM OC I got my i7-4720HQ to score 720 points on CB R15, and its a locked CPU that wont go above 3.6Ghz -

I got to stop visiting this place, already order the 4930mx and a mSATA of 1TB in AliExpress for 250€ all.

I’ve got a 4910 just sitting here waiting for a home. Hahaha. Don’t worry, it’s only money.

Hahahaha great phrase. Will take it into account seriously.

One question that is in my mind mate.
How did you take out the grey plastic pieces of the back of the Ranger for painting them? Wanna start with that too, think I will paint it in Tesla Pearl White. -
I stripped the whole laptop apart, motherboard and all. It’s a bit of work just to get the two small sections done so you could probably just tape everything up. I prefer to take everything apart though.

Once I pulled the motherboard I taped up the areas around the grey spots.

This one is what I got:

So finally you didn't extract them from the structure? Only thing that can be done is to take everything out ,tape out and paint?
Thanks mate. -
BTW i'm having an amazing gaming performance even in my external 49" 5K monitor with 30 stable FPS on BF One for example.

I have a line on a cheap Ranger! I'm sure this has been covered, but if I were to pop in the 1060 and 120hz screen that is discussed in this thread, would HDMI in still work? I read through several pages and couldn't find the answer.
The one I'm looking at is a great deal. Cosmetically decent, i7-4910mq, 16gb ram, etc. If the 1060 works with HDMI In with the stock FHD screen, but not with 120hz it'll be a tough decision
I love how easy the panel is to change out on this laptop. I was expecting to have to use a heat gun and a machete but it looks like I just need a screw driver and spudger -
-
HDMI IN still works with the GTX 1060. It'll work with either the 60 Hz or 120 Hz screens. However, there is a catch: it only works on certain driver versions, which is a luck of the draw thing. It seems to work on most graphics driver versions, but there are some that will cause the HDMI IN function to display a black screen, and some that will cause it to display a white screen. Those same drivers also screwed up my minecraft shaders in really weird ways.
I can't tell you what specific versions caused those things to happen since I don't remember, but I can tell you it works fine on driver version 441.66. I haven't tested drivers more recent than this one.
Also, when you deactivate HDMI IN to switch back to the internal display output, sometimes the screen will turn off or go black, and the only way to get it to display something again is to put the laptop to sleep and wake it back up, but this doesn't happen all the time. It seems to be random, and the chance of it happening depends on the stability of the graphics driver.
I don't see any reason this wouldn't also work with the 1070.
Do note that the HDMI version on this laptop doesn't support 120 Hz signals, so you are stuck at 60 Hz when using the HDMI IN function.killbillur likes this. -

I would assume so. I don't see any reason it wouldn't work.
The crap with the weird white and black screen happened even with my old 860m. I don't expect that to change. Just make sure you have a stable graphics driver. -
Hi guys! Most of my orders have come to me, I'm still waiting the LCD panel that's all. Is it a good idea to replace the graphics card and the 5-pipe heatsink without replacing the LCD? I'm so excited I don't want to wait the LCD panel but if it is not a good idea then I can wait. Also can you show me a way to find a modded driver for GTX 1070 or an inf file of it?
Edit: Clamibot has said that it was better to wait all of the parts to arrive. I've decided to wait for the LCD panel, but meanwhile it's better for me to learn a bit about modding drivers.
I want to ask you something more. This 5-pipe heatsink came with new thermal pads and a paste, but the pads are very thin and the paste has a thin layer. Is it okay for me to use it without adding new pads and paste? I can use my old pads that are in good shape, and I've got some paste for it.Attached Files:

i Did it and no issues at all, text if we can help you with the driver modding.

Here is a good step by step guide that really helped me learn how to mod the driver.

I believe it's normal that it's not detected because drivers has not been installed yet but I can't get the information from device manager to be able to follow the steps modifying it.
Edit: I think I found it. I did a right click on 3D Video Controller and clicked properties, details, and hardware lds and the information looks similar in the guide link that Maxware gave me but now I've got an issue extracting the driver. I want to get the inf file from there but after extracting the installer attempts to install it but it fails, and the extracted folders suddenly disappear. How can I prevent them from disappering?Last edited: Jul 1, 2020 -

Also I'm curious about those Unknown devices because I found Hardware Ids on 3D Video Controller right top of them. Maybe they are related with the graphics card I don't know. By the way hardware Ids is PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1BA1&SUBSYS_05AA1028. I cannot attach the inf file that I modded because it's bigger than 2 MB. I added these lines to all sets and the strings:
%NVIDIA_DEV.1BA1.05AA.1028% = Section146, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1BA1&SUBSYS_05AA1028
NVIDIA_DEV.1BA1.05AA.1028 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070"
Something is missing or I did a mistake but I can't find it. -

I see. I did the 3Dmark benchmark
I'm laughing and crying at the same time. It's 2.00 am here, I have to go to sleep now. I'm waiting desperately for other solutions. -

I believe one of the unknown devices you're seeing in device manager is the SD card reader. I'm not sure what the other one is.
As for the problems you're experiencing, it's supposedly because Pascal cards are screwy with optimus setups, but I've never tried that myself, it's just what I've heard.
Also when launching Shadow Of The Tomb Raider, did you try right clicking on the executable or the shortcut to the executable and using the "run with" option to explicitly select a GPU to use for the game? -
Also I couldn't find any ''run with'' option except administrator on Tomb Raider. Can you explain it a little bit more? Thanks.Last edited: Jul 9, 2020 -

You use the unlocked BIOS to switch to PEG to disable Optimus. You could also try disabling the Intel graphics in the Device Manager. I'm not sure what impact this will do to your system though so do at your own risk.

Yea

Ok, I disabled the fast boot. UEFI is already enabled, secure boot disabled. All of them look okay.
I'm also curious why discrete graphics is shown like Nvidia GFX?Is it supposed to be GTX?
Maybe it's an abbreviation for GeForce?
-
As per name yeah it's abbreviation did you try benchmarking after fastboot disabled
